I bought this to adapt my old Canon FD mount lenses to my new Fuji X-E2 mirrorless body. The fit and finish are fine. The adapter is a tight fit for both lens and body so it feels very solid. I tried this with Vivitar and Canon lenses and it worked as expected. (I knew I kept those lenses for a reason.) Just remember there are no electrical contacts so you will have to manually focus and control aperture.

3.0 out of 5 starsGood but not great adapter

The Fotasy adapter is ok, but not the best of them all.

The Fotodiox FD to FX adapter is the best adapter, compared to the Haoge, Fotasy, Urth x Gobe and K&F adapters. The Haoge adapter sucks, very loose lens locking ring, doesn't stay in place. The Fotasy adapter is ok, but the lens locking ring isn't as well built & secure as the Fotodiox. The Urth x Gobe and the K&F adapters are very well built, but with one major flaw in my opinion: the lens locking ring doesn't lock into place. With the Fotasy adapter, the locking ring "clicks"/locks into either the "open" or the "closed" position. The Urth x Gobe and the K&F adapters don't "click" into place, they rotate like a fairly loose aperture ring. This means that while using the adapter with a lens, the loose ring could move, and the Canon lens aperture would thus change.

In short, the Fotodiox adapter is well built, mounts securely to the Fuji body and Canon FD lens, and the lens locking ring stays securely in either the open or closed position, unlike the Urth x Gobe and the K&F adapters.

Since there is no glass in an adapter like this the primary concern is price and mechanical tolerances. I've had macro spacers that can range from to tight to loose but this adapter is just right. It's kind of surprising that they can hold tolerances that good for this price. I wish my macro tubes fit this well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice adapter. Very tight.

I got this adapter for my vintage Nikkor 55mm f3.5 lens so I can use it on my Fujifilm XT-1 mirrorless camera. The adapter came quickly. It seems to be well made. It fits my camera body well, but it's very tight on my lens. I was afraid to force it on the first time, so my highly experienced with vintage equipment friend did the deed for me. He said he didn't know why it needed to be so tight, but it does work well now that's it's on. I probably won't be taking it off and on very often except to add the M2 extender. Hopefully it will loosen a bit with use because it's scary tight right now.
Bottom line, it works and I'm very impressed with this1968 model lens paired with the Fuji digital camera. Using adapters has opened my eyes to the possibilities of using vintage lenses on newer cameras. My favorite is a vintage Leica 90mm.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little FD to X-Mount adapter
Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2017
Style: Canon FD - FX AdapterVerified Purchase
One of the nice advantages of mirrorless cameras with their short flange distances is that it's very easy to adapt older (and cheap!) lenses without having to put glass converters. So, you can use your old lenses without any noticeable degradation in quality.

The adapter fits snugly but not too tightly, both on the Fuji side and on the Canon FD or FL side (works for both, since it's the same mount). It's cheap, but there's nothing wrong with build quality, and since there are no optical elements, there won't be any new distortions. Depending on tolerances, you might have issues focusing at infinity, but I don't have a problem with my copy.

So far, I've tested it with the Canon FL 50/1.4, Vivitar 28mm/2.8 and Canon FL135/2.5. Works flawlessly both with the lenses by themselves and with extension tubes for macro.

I've uploaded some quick shots of Mr. Claus with the Canon 50 and Vivitar 28 (taken from the same position, so the wider shot is the vivitar), and a macro shot of the Fuji XF18-55, using the Vivitar 28 and a 18mm Extension tube. For the macro I stopped down to f22 so there's some depth of field at all. Any softness is caused by the lens itself. In all cases, focus was on the eye, using focus peaking and viewfinder magnification.

Some comments:

The Aperture Lock/Open ring is a bit confusing at first, since "open" is up top when it's stopped down, and "locked" is up when it's open. There are arrows showing the direction you have to twist, but it's not intuitive. It would have cost absolutely nothing to make it so both the arrows and the legend up top are consistent. If you have a lens that allows you to manually stop down (like the Canon FL 50/1.4), then you might be better served using that ring instead of the adapter.

Fuji's Manual Focus assists work perfectly with all lenses, but you do have to move the AF lever to Manual.

You have to be sure the adapter is "open" when you change lenses, otherwise you won't be able to stop down your lens. This isn't a problem specific to the adapter, and has all to do with the mechanical linkage the FD system uses to control aperture. On Canon Cameras there was no problem because it always defaulted to open when you weren't shooting.

5.0 out of 5 stars As is
Reviewed in the United States on June 25, 2013
Style: Leica M - FX AdapterVerified Purchase
Currently in the market of these adapters, one can somewhat summarize the primary choices available to the relatively average individual. To my knowledge from brief research, it appears that there are probably four routes one can take.

The first is the official route which is presented by Fujifilm itself, which is an electronically coded adapter, which supposedly permits certain lenses to transfer information back and forth between the body and the lens. Of course, this transferring of information is rather limited upon closer inspection, as it merely permits the body to apply various fixes in order to counter the likelihood of smears, color abnormalities, fringe issues, etc. This advantage comes with a brief disadvantage, as the physical essence of the codings restrict some M lenses to be used. In the end, the price of this adapter is somewhat approximately $200.

The second route is the relatively exotic and upper class route, the Novoflex adapter. Costing about $60 dollars more than the official Fujifilm adapter, one receives a superior engineered piece, which functions as it should, to its highest definition of itself. Without any of the prior electronically coded advantages and disadvantage, it is crafted with the well known Germany-esque mastery; one is paying as much for the 'soul' of the product as the product itself. It is a product of very high quality in its very functional claim to allow one to use M lenses to Fujifilm X bodies and very much expensive.

The third route is the route in which one finds over and over again in the forums of the international. The Kipon. The people's choice as it has earned a place in the very hearts of the pragmatic and dynamic sons and daughters of this age; it just has to work, and work reliably. And to most people, it very much does. Significantly cheaper than the prior two, but insignificantly different in use. Of course, there are errors here and there with corrupted batches, but when does that not happen in this world? Of course, where does one get it? Generally speaking, most references lead to eBay. And so, one would have to deal with the politics of eBay, which are in of itself an experience no so different than on Amazon.

So what is the fourth route? It is everything else. In this case, as it is in the nature of reviews, it is the rainbowimaging's presentation of the adapter. In many ways, it is almost precisely the same as Kipon, in both philosophy and in physical built. It is constructed cheaply, plastic, and just simply works. For the adapter that I received, it must be mentioned that to actually connect the M lens to the adapter, one had to exert a more than necessary amount of strength and effort. Once it is connected, and the tiny latch locks, it is quite secure, and goes into the Fujifilm's body smoothly, as if it was the natural lens. There is a little metal switch that one can pull to allow one to once again utilize an amount of exertion in order to disconnect the adapter. Unfortunately, this metal switch can fall out, and when it does and is missing, would would have to rely on external objects, such as finger nails, in order to lift the lock and remove the adapter. Surprisingly not frustrating, save for the initial realization. As is already known, the Fujifilm body does not boast to have focus peaking for even its own official adapter, and so neither does this one.

In conclusion, to say that the product is good or very good or excellent or bad or horrible would almost seem irrelevant. The product either works or does not work. In this case, it does. The experience of the product may not be a magical smooth one, but it was not necessarily designed to be one, it was just designed to perform the function to which it claims to. And it does.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Manual Focus Nikon Adapter

I was recently gifted some old Nikon lenses and wanted to use them on my Fujifilm XT-5. I looked around for something inexpensive and found this adapter for around $12 dollars. This adapter is fully metal and with very good tolerances. It doesn't seem too tight or too loose and I am fairly confident in it. I have used it for over a week and have had great results with the adapted lenses. Note that this adapter has no Auto Focus contacts so you will have to adjust the focus manually. This is a great, cheap adapter that should be in everyone's kit if you have some old F-mount lenses. Hopefully they can produce an inexpensive Auto Focus version as I would surely buy that.

4.0 out of 5 stars Does its job
Reviewed in the United States on September 27, 2023
Style: M42 - FX AdapterVerified Purchase
It does its job.

My one nitpick deals with it being advertised as being adjustable, which it is. I figured this kinda makes for m42 lenses since most of these old manual lenses are ones with pertinent info printed directly on them (illustrating the focal ranges at given apertures), which you probably want to be oriented in a way so they're right on top of the lens when it's screwed all the way in in its final position. As the adapter came, when I'd screw in a lens, the info I wanted to see was all off to the side instead of on the top where it needed to be. So it was handy that I could loosen the tiny screws and twist the metal piece so the lens was oriented exactly how I'd like before re-tightening. However, the problem with this is that the screws are seemingly made of too soft of a metal, so after adjusting the lens orientation once (which I did carefully), 2 of the screws were "stripped" to the point that I could no longer turn them to loosen them again if I need to make another adjustment. Perhaps I wasn't careful enough (though I was being careful) and perhaps it's user error rather than a problem with the design or the materials, but I've never had this problem before so... I don't know.

I've owned and used other m42 mounts that weren't adjustable like this, and it turned out fine because they made sure to orient things precisely so that the info on the lens would end up on top of the lens when screwed in. Maybe there are m42 lenses with the data on different sides which I haven't encountered yet, but so far it hasn't been a problem with any of the m42 vintage lenses I own. I wish this lens just did that instead of falling back on being adjustable, farming out that task to the users rather than just aligning things correctly themselves. Or, if they were going to make it adjustable and treat that as a feature, I wish it was accomplished in a way where it could be reliably adjusted repeatedly instead of it quickly losing its adjustability because adjusting it once stripped out the tiny soft screws so they can no longer be turned by the tool after only one adjustment.
