I purchased this item on Amazon for $69.99 in November 2012. I am the only cook in the household, and I use it only occasionally for baking or mashed potatoes. This mixer replaced a Hamilton Beach mixer that I used without incident for 25 years. While it has more speeds and more power and I liked the Cuisinart mixer better than my old model (which probably cost less than $20!), I'm sad to say that it has stopped working after less than 5 years of light duty use. Last week, while whipping potatoes, the motor started arbitrarily slowing down to a near stop, and then speeding up to a speed much higher than the normal top speed. Then it smelled like something was burning inside, so I stopped using it. The item looks brand spanking new. I'm very disappointed at the length of time this item worked properly, as well as the "3 year limited warranty." I will replace it with another brand.
