GE refrigerator dispenser - fixing frozen water line
April 27, 2017
I installed three of these over time, one done by a GE technician. Utimately, they all failed, though they generally worked for several months. Then I saw a post online where someone had taken a white plastic, bubble wrap insulated, large envelope and attached it to the inside of the door. I took that idea, cut the envelope open so I had two large rectangular pieces, added 2 more layers of bubble wrap underneath, and used gorilla clear tape (about 2 inches wide) to attached it to the inside of the freezer door. I cut the envelope/bubble wrap to fit both the rectangular area and the trapezoid area behind the dispenser separately. Looks great, works great (see photo). The heating wire is still installed, so I don't know whether you need it too, but with both together there is no freezing of the water line. It's been working for over 6 months.
