I have several All-Clad frying pans, including their amazing non-stick 12" skillet. However, I've never owned any of their sauce pans.
I needed a good sauce pan to use with my new Max Burton portable induction cooktop. This particular model is at the top of almost every cookware review as the best sauce pan you can buy. Cook's Illustrated has it at the top of their ratings. Sometimes these reviews are correct, and sometimes they are not.
In this case the reviews are correct: this is the best sauce pan you can buy.
It heats evenly; it perfectly transfers heat from both a gas stove and a portable induction cooktop; and it provides a beautiful, smooth stainless surface that doesn't interact with any food. The lid fits tightly for those times when you want to simmer for a long time without losing much liquid.
My only issue -- and almost everyone mentions this -- is that the handle is too long. I guess this was done to keep it out of the heat, and also to let you easily get to the pan if it is placed on the back burner on a large commercial stove. On my more modest home stove, this really isn't needed. The long handle does get in the way of the faucet during cleaning.
However, while cooking, the handle is not an issue, and the pan's cooking performance really can't be beat. This is a great pan.
