I ordered this welder through Amazon prime (admittedly I didn't read that it was DC only until after it had shipped, but that was my mistake - so if you want to weld aluminum, this won't work for your purposes easily).
I ordered a NEW one and the one I got clearly was not new. The box was in shamble, there were 2 dvds in the box (one in the plastic, one not and was scratched), the regulator (more on that in a second) wasn't in the bubble wrap but the wrap was in the box, the torch head had burn marks on it, the gas cup was blackened with carbon, the torch handle looked like it was about to break and had stress marks in the plastic, the plug wire had clearly been cut, twisted and used previously, the top of the cover by the screws had paint peeling off and there was rust forming around the front screw, the top of the machine looked like it had something (maybe water) sprayed on it, and there was an inspection sticker on the back of it.
Amazon, as always, was very understanding of my plight with ordering a new welder and getting what looks to be a refurb, so they have another on order for me (2-5 weeks). I went to hook the welder up last night to see if it worked as it is supposed to and discover that the 'brand new' regulator has a crack in the main manifold body. I took the gauge off to see if it was leaking through the threads and there was a bunch of garbage in the screen and the Teflon tape had been reapplied previously (not to mention the excessive amount of torque applied to the gauge to make it face forward).
I hope the replacement is better than this one and NEW this time.
