Easy to use & fit perfect. I just let them soak for about 15 to 30 mins. They soften enough to push right into my bottles. I thought they were going to be too big but end up being the perfect fit. If it difficult to push in the bottle let it sit in water a little longer. That's what worked for me.

The corks might have been OK IF the right size had been sent. I ordered #8 corks. the packages said #8 corks. I just started to use them.....beginning of 2018..........and they wouldn't fit in the bottles. I drove 45 miles one way to a wine brewer's store. The bag was mis-marked. I actually got 200 #9 corks! I ended up buying a gadget for $17.95 to force them in so I could use it. I have made over 100 batches of wine and never had this problem before. If they had sent #8 corks in the bag as labeled and as ordered, I would not have had a problem.

It worked well without splitting - the trick is to boil the cork before bottling. Can't tell about how well it seals in the long term because I bottled wine for immediate consumption (my wine does not have any sulfites, sorbates and other "goody" stuff used in commercial wines. On the positive side you have to drink it fast...

Follow up: I bottled the second wine batch and from some bottles (about 30%) liquid simply leaked out after only 2 days! Dropped from 3 stars to 1 star. DO NOT BUY!

Way too tight for a standard 750ml. They tear at around the edges leaving cork shavings in the wine when forced. And Yes, I soaked them before use.

I've been using other #8 corks for many years, thought I'd give these a shot, it was mistake. I bought them in November (15th) so I would be ready after clearing etc at the end of December, opened these today and the corks smelled like mold! There was NO evidence of mold on the cork, the plastic bag was sealed. I tried soaking them in PBW and rinsing them with SaniClean but it didn't help. There was NO WAY I was going to cork 27 bottles of wine with moldy smelling cork so in the trash they went. Just in case anyone is wondering, I didn't store them in a dark musty root cellar either ;-) They went into a kitchen cabinet with the rest of our winemaking supplies. None of which btw smell of mold. I guess this one is on me because I didn't even take them out of the box when they arrived, too late to return them so, lesson learned I guess.

#8 Straight wine corks

Exactly what I need to cork my next batch of wine. Easy to use with a hand tool to insert into wine bottles. Makes a good seal without any assistance, but I also store the bottles on their side to keep the corks damp and swollen. I also add a thin splash of candle wax to keep the moisture locked into the cork for extra security.

I make a batch of wine every year and give most of it away to friends and family. Some drink it quickly others store it for special occasions or to take to a dinner party. These are good corks as far as my experience has gone, not one issue to date.

Good for beginning wine maker or perhaps for wines that will be consumed relatively quickly. The short #8 corks are easily installed with a hand corker, which is why I bought them.

The biggest downside is that they are a little fragile after opening the bottle. I've had one break in two after re-inserting it in the bottle and removing it later - the second one, I just re-inserted with less force and it is fine. It's not a huge problem if you are careful, but noticalby weaker than any store-bought wine cork. I would buy again in spite of this.

After soaking and sanitizing like I always do, they seated fine. I thought nothing of them. Stored cork down like I always do, and only have some minor sweat through. No problem. Go to open a bottle after 2 weeks and the cork rips in half. It just falls apart, but not like and old dry cork. They are just not worth it, especially if you give your stuff away like I do, then have to be embarrassed because the cork fell apart on them.

They work ok I guess but they aren't as high quality as what I had from my local homebrew store. When I use the corking tool to insert them, it tears up the edges of these corks a little bit. You have little pieces that break off. Hopefully when it comes time to REMOVE these corks, I won't have a bunch of little floating chunks in the bottle

I cut these into 1/3 length and they make great hook guards for hooks and rigs in my fishing tackle gear. With one bag, I have a lifetime supply for my use. I have cut regular cork with a pocket knife before. These are much harder and I have to work a little to cut them. I'm no wine maker, but as hard as these are, I doubt they will compress well for bottling. Your results may vary.
