I lost my iPhone 4S and didn't want to pony up the money to buy another one and since I already have an iPad with a cellular connection I decided to buy this Blackberry. It was on sale here for about $35, so seemed like a good deal. Coming from an iPhone 4 there were a lot of adjustments to make. First, the screen is tiny and the words are almost microscopic. It feels like you need a magnifying lens to read the words sometimes. The Blackberry OS isn't very intuitive either, so it took some guesswork to figure out how to access the phone, voicemail, text messages, etc. And while the trackpad is well-designed and very responsive it can't possibly compete with a touchscreen, where you open up an app by just touching it. Still, the size is good, it's very lightweight, and useful if you text a lot. Using the browser can be challenging because most websites don't design for the Blackberry, so you end up looking at mangled pages designed for iphones and Androids or the full site, which will require 2-3 clicks of the magnifying lens to see.

Overall, this is a fantastic phone if you're just looking for a small, light, robust phone to make phone calls and text messages. If you want more, like check email, that can be set up as well but be prepared to do a lot of googling and tracking down documentation online. If you're willing to do your homework and find documentation for how this phone works you'll find it enjoyable--if anything it's an interesting puzzle to explore while commuting on a bus or train to work in the morning. But you're looking for simple user interface coupled with cutting edge apps and feature, this phone is pretty old and sure to disappoint! Be realistic in your expectations and you'll find a solid, responsive, reliable and durable phone that you can take anywhere.
