Even though it’s a bit too spiritual for me, honestly I almost quit on the book after reading the intro. and I was really rather skeptical about how this book would help me. It sounded a bit corny like self help book for artist. Like chicken soap for the artist soul.

But getting past that and actually getting into doing the assignments and homework the book ask that you do week after week. I found the book was really helpful. I guess its like anything else where you get what you put in out of it and it’s different for everyone.

I read somewhere that this book might have come out too soon for its own good. I think that if had added what we know today about neurology and how the brain works, instead of the spiritual stuff it would have been better off.

I have recommended this book to others (artist friends) and have had moments where I felt I needed to reread a curtain part or do a curtain writing task again. Underneath the things that turned me off, there really are some priceless gems within the pages. And if you make it too the end of the 12 weeks you’ll be glad you did.

But depending on who you are and how many issues you might have (rough childhood, stuff thats happen to you in the past) I recommend this book with a bit a caution. This book causes you to face a lot of things. So just be ready for that.

This book is advertised as help for folks who are experiencing difficulty getting in touch with their creativity. I think it should be advertised as help for folks in general. Yes, the questions and tasks are directed at folks engaging in creative endeavors, but the life review that is scattered throughout the book can be used by anyone. And if the topics are too focused on art for you, just think about how they apply to your interests instead. Use the book for what it is: a tool for self-examination and enlightenment gained through introspection and WRITING -- promise yourself that you'll at least TRY the daily writing. It is so incredibly rewarding.

I've been lucky enough to publish nine books through national publishers. It was an amazing experience... until I started reading the negative reviews. It didn't matter if most people left 4 or 5 star reviews. The only reviews I would believe were the negative reviews. Same goes for the professional book reviewers. They could give it a solid review but have one line of criticism and that was all I would believe. Those negative reviews echoed in my head and gave birth to self doubt. That self doubt led to imposter syndrome and it wasn't long until I started to feel like I didn't deserve to be a professional author. So I walked away. That was five years ago.

A few months ago I started listening to a podcast called The Moment with Brian Koppelman, and he often gives credit to The Artist's Way for helping him out of writer's block. So I thought I'd give it a shot. And you know what? I'm not only plotting my next novel, I'm working on a screenplay based on one of my books. This book is the real deal and I couldn't give it a higher rating if I tried. Thank you, Julia Cameron! And thank you, Brian Koppelman for recommending it.

This book was recommended to me by a friend who knew I was struggling with depression and writer's block. However, I am not a religious person and the author uses a lot of religious imagery that I find annoying and troublesome. I have, however, been using the techniques and ignoring the parts about connecting with a god, and I'm having some success. I feel as though the Morning Pages and the commitment to Artist Dates is actually helping me reconnect with my creativity and help pull me out of my writer's block. It's not a treatment for depression, but that seems to be alleviated somewhat as well. Just my experience, but I think if a reader is looking for a good set of directions for getting up and going in any creative sphere, this could well be the key.

More than any other book, this one has impacted my life. The morning pages, Julia's wisdom and the experiential exercises at the end of each chapter helped me to recover my creativity and live joyfully. Then I led Artist's Way groups in Los Angeles for twenty years and witnessed thousands of other people transform their lives by using Julia's creative principles. Sometimes I hear people try to figure out why it works, but what the book taught me was to stop thinking and starting taking action. So I won't give you reasons it works. I'll just say it does.

For anyone looking to rekindle their creative nature, this is a must have book. This lessons in this 12-week study apply to everyone whether you are a writer, a painter, a photographer, teacher or a businessman seeking new ideas. Ms Cameron has a unique approach to help you unleash the artist/creator inside you. She shows you how to focus on the positive aspects in your life and remove yourself from the negative attitudes and people that hold you back. This book and its accompanying workbook would work well for both individual and group studies. While this is a "spiritual path," you do not need to be religious to nurture the creative spirit within. With the guidance she provides in this book, you can learn to feel better about yourself and rediscover the joys of life.

This book has been very helpful. I am an artist trying to work out some old bad habits regarding my process. This book has guided me through working some of that out. I've not yet finished the book, but I highly recommend to anyone/everyone. It's not just for artists. Great, great book.

I have gone thought the Artist's Way five times, three times in a group. I am a professional artist, a painter and an instuctor and I owe a lot of that to Julia Cameron and The Artist's Way. I suggest going through the book with a group, it is truly profound to see people unblock their creativity and step into more full, engaged and enjoyable lives. This book really helps with pointing out common road blocks, from jealous friends to the wave of doubt that comes right before any real artistic risk. I find that as a teacher, this book has helped me tremendously to see where my students are in fear, and to help them navigate the road to being a solvent, strong artist. Working in groups has also shown me just how many people have let go of their most viable, exciting dreams for the lesser version, the practical compromise. Through groups I have seen people reclaim those dreams and become happy, creative people. It really cannot be undervalued, I recommend The Artist's Way to virtually anyone who wants to be more creative, more secure and ultimately more free. This is the only book review I have ever done on Amazon, but I think it is worth getting out there, because we need more artists, and we need those artists to learn how to value and support one another, and I think this book has the ability to do that. I know that my life was and is forever changed by it, and I on minimum go through The Artist's Way once per year, and take other people through it. After I read it for the first time, I bought ten copies for my closest family and friends, all blocked artists, talking and dreaming about when they were, or when they will be. This book is about action and ultimately self actualization. Many blessings and I hope you give yourself the opportunity this book presents!

Very very good. The writing and exercises push you to tune out the outside noise and get in touch with your creativity. This may mean you unseal and listen to the Inner noise; she helps you locate it all and gain clarity. As she says in one chapter, clarity propels action to change. Love this book! We are studying it in a university writing class and must do the tasks and exercises. It really gets you UNstuck.

This is an incredible tool for everyone -not just artists! Everyone has a creative voice and this book helps guide you towards a more fulfilling way of life. It can be really challenging at times to hold yourself accountable and they book suggests that you can start with a group of people to help you stay on track. I did this as a solo venture and got to a particularly hard week and could not keep up the momentum. I am determined to start again again and get through it!!! I love that it opened my eyes to learning more about myself and what I need to do to stay healthy happy and motivated! A must have for anyone who feels stuck or who is looking for something richer in life.
