I was going to rate it down to 4 stars because TIG is not so versatile, but I can't... I just love it. Not only is it portable, but it is by far, the smoothest running MIG arc. Miller has tuned this little box to weld with 100% CO2 like other MIGs do wirh C75. I run with C75 and its like butter - very little spatter. Portability: Keep in mind that the quoted weight doesn't include the spool of wire or attached cables. Fully dressed out, carrying MIG gun, work cable, gas regulator (every thing but the bottle of gas) its over 50 lbs. Ruggedness: No issues. The LCD display is covered by the same protector that Miller uses for auto-dark helmets. So its replaceable. Setup: I didn't think I would like auto-set. However for everything from 14 gauge to 3/16" it has been very good.... very very good. It spatters a bit more on thicker. If you push the machine to its limit, you need to watch gun angle and keep your work distance close. Biggest project so far has been a utility trailer (angle iron plus wood decking), never had an issue with overheating. Welds exactly the same on 110V and 230V -obviously max power is different. I hardly ever use the stick welding option. I guess its there if I ever needed it.
My unit is 3 years old (just out of warranty) and has given me zero issues. It was an early model and I had one software update to make 6xxx rods start better. I didn't even know there was an issue.
Before buying this welder I looked at all the multi process machines and the Miller always stood out by far. One thing that it has that none of the other 3-in-one machines has is a gas solenoid for the Tig process. That is a big plus. The MVP (110v or 220v) feature is perfect for any situation. I know I payed a lot of money for it, but one year later I have no regrets. It was shipped in the best packaging I have ever seen. It came with everything you can thing of. If I had to say anything about improvements. It would be that I wish it had high frequency start.
This welder does everything many of its big brothers do in a much larger size. There are many special offers that include a free TIG kit and $250 cash back if you spend $250. Check into it. It's a great Mig welder with Auto-set.
