I was skeptical...

I've been French pressing coffee for decades and tended to look down on other brewing methods. A couple of months ago my wife asked me to order this Melitta pour-over so that she could have an easier way to make coffee for herself. I did a medium fine grind for her, along with my usual press course grind. Out of curiosity, I began experimenting with the Melitta and was pleasantly surprised with the results. Three hearty scoops, 20 second "blooming" of the initial scoop, followed by a slow circular pour to capture the grounds. End result...delicious coffee to the last drop. And if you rinse the thermal carafe with hot water before commencing the process, coffee stays hot for several hours. Last but not least, the clean up is easy & fast. Today I find myself reaching for the Melitta more often than my precious French press. I'm no longer a Melitta skeptic.

UPDATE 2/25/19: After 40 pots...I have to add one criticism. The lid's seal (surprisingly thin & fragile) recently began to malfunction. I took the lid to our local ACE hardware and found a perfect fitting (and heavy duty!) O-ring replacement. With proper care, I now expect our Melitta will be brewing great coffee for many years to come!

Design changed from picture. Makes a mess.

The design has changed from the picture shown. The pot no longer has a spout. As a result, you cannot pour the coffee out of the pot without making a huge mess unless you screw the lid on. The lid has a tiny spout and even smaller opening. The coffee comes out at a trickle so it takes 30 seconds to pour one cup of coffee, It is also impossible to get the last cup out to the pot at all.

Great drip coffee

I always try to read the negative reviews of a product before ordering to be aware of potential pitfalls. We have used pour over drip coffee makers for years first as boaters and now as RVers. Fantastic taste and easy clean up and no electricity needed. This pot works great.
It is interesting that it seems an equal number of people praise the pot for keeping coffee hot as seem to bemoan that it doesn't work for that at all.
The very first thing I did when this was delivered was wash it, then make a pot of coffee. I made a full pot and enjoyed a cup right away, leaving the rest to test how well it would stay hot.
My first cup was exactly as expected, tasted great. By the way, one review in particular claimed that the design had changed and that there is no spout for pouring. The spout is built into the thermal lid. You do have to put the lid on to pour the coffee.
As for the coffee left in the pot? After 2 hours the coffee was still hot. At 3.5 hours it was lukewarm.
Overall, this is a fine coffee maker. For the price, what more do you really want?

Not Warm For Hours

I bought the carafe so I could make about 28 oz of coffee, my daily consumption which I typically drink in two-three hours in the morning. The first time I used it I just boiled water to see how long it would keep the liquid warm enough. After 90 minutes, it was just lukewarm. I guess it's ok if you want to use it solely to make a lot of coffee and will consume it all quickly; otherwise it's useless as a carafe. And it's badly designed for cleaning. Only a really small hand can get through the top so you'll need to use a brush which isn't ideal for thoroughly cleaning out coffee.

I've always loved Melitta a for their quality coffee making supplies. All the nice little tools that you use for a pour-over and the quality filters.

THIS IS AN ENFURIATING PIECE OF CRAP!!!
It's the lowest quality plastic imaginable. The worst part of it is that when you screw the lid on to the decanter ... the spout doesn't line up with the handle. So you have to hold it cockeyed to pour it. I didn't discover this until I tried to pour it after screwing the lid on in a normal way and coffee dribbled out all over from the edges of the seal. Do not, do not, do not buy this sorry piece of junk.

I swear by the French Press and no other coffee brewing method has met my coffee taste buds needs until now. I was concerned when reading the reviews but decided to try it for myself. This Melitta pour-over brewer is fantastic! Coffee is ready in no time and the flavor is perfect. The pour spout works great, no spillage as previously reported by other consumers. The carafe opening is wide and I am able to reach inside for ease of cleaning. The coffee stays hot for hours. I measured and it holds 64 ounces as advertised; that's 8 cups of coffee. Overall a very good purchase, good value and, it is definitely worth the money. I am beyond pleased with the product.

Great in theory, lousy in application

I initially loved the concept of not having to buy a $300 coffee machine for great coffee. The secret in good coffee is the right water temp and brew time. This offered a great solution... so I thought. Out of the box everything is flimsy, cheaply made plastics. So cheap they are easily bendable, thin, and flexible. I don’t want boiling water leeching through and harmful toxins from cheap plastics. Another issue was the design flaw of such a small hole in the Dripper. I tried several blend variations and everything kept plugging up the hopper. Thirdly, when you turn the box upside there you will find the most dreadful words: made in China. Over and done with cheaply made China junk you can keep it. I want to support countries that value workers and freedom. I thought melitta would have german made products but I guess they sold out to the almighty profit equation. Won’t ever buy melitta again.

FINALLY -- Melitta Pour-Over Brewer that keeps my coffee HOT

Ok ... when my old coffee caraffe (not Melitta) croaked I purchased the Melitta 6-cup glass Pour-Over coffee maker. It wasn't keeping my coffee hot enough until I could get it into the 2 thermoses we use to keep our fresh-ground Starbucks French Roast coffee hot throughout the day. SO I ordered this 10-cup stainless steel Melitta Pour-Over brewer. I must say it is terrific and keeps the coffee hot.

If I was going to ding it for anything it is that you can't get the last bit of coffee out of the pot because of the lip that goes all the way around inside top edge. But having HOT coffee when it has finished brewing is wonderful! And we don't have to pour it all into our thermoses unless we plan to take the coffee when we leave home.

This should last a LONG time and make a LOT of great, HOT coffee.

Great product - read this to prevent leaks!

Ok so there are enough reviews on taste, usability etc... so my review is on the dreaded leaking problem you'll see in the reviews and how to fix it. I ordered this for our popup camping since it's exactly what we need. First time we used it (with the lid on) it leaked all over the counter! I was ready to return it but luckily I took a picture of the lid before I cleaned it for the first time. Read on to see about how to fix the leaking (the coffee tasted amazing by the way):

1. The gasket. This was my issue. When I cleaned it the first time I removed the clear gasket seated on the lid so it could dry properly. Come to find out I put it back on upside down. Take a look at the picture to see the correct way to seat the gasket. Notice where it's seated and how it flares out at the bottom. Once I fixed that, no more leaks when pouring. The lid must be on and screwed tightly around a couple times until it stops completely and the spout is pointed forward, aligned with the spout on the base.

2. The lid must be on. If you try to pour with the lid off it will leak. It's designed to work with the lid on. Not sure why you'd want to use it with the lid off but if that's a real breaker for you don't buy it. Keeping the lid on will help keep the coffee warmer longer (although it still needs to be consumed within about 10 minutes for maximum heat).

Follow 1 and 2 above and you shouldn't have any leaking issues. Now for some other observations.

- You can pour about 16 oz of Hot water into the top before the water will overflow. That will make about two cups of coffee. Make sure you use the correct amount of coffee for two cups that matches your taste preference. For me that's two heaping tablespoons. If you want more coffee be prepared to wait for it to drain then add more hot water.

- The stainless steel keeps the coffee very hot for about 10 minutes. It's not plugged in so of course heat will begin to be lost right way. This is how the world works. We're using this camping so consume the coffee we want right way and make more later if needed. Don't expect this thing to keep coffee piping hot for hours. Buy an electrical until if you need that. Some folks have had good results with putting hot water in there first, dumping, then adding coffee. Since the base is already hot, then yes, less heat will be lost when you pour in the hot coffee.

What i Wanted was a metal coffee pot that would not break if dropped. I figured this would cool the coffee faster so i could drink it. Well, this is a thermos jug and a very bad one. I have all these cuts on my hand from sticking it inside to wash it. There is always water left in it after washing. Even if left overnight in the dish drainer. I refuse to use the lid, because there is not way to get inside the spring loaded mechanism and clean it to prevent a buildup of coffee residue. So when I pour there is coffee all over the sink. I am very disjointed.
