Wonderful French Glassware

We initially purchased a set of these glasses for our home and loved them. The French Cafe design is attractive and the glasses are remarkably rugged. Although I don’t recommend doing this, I accidentally knocked a small glass off our kitchen counter onto a ceramic tile floor, the glass BOUNCED and did NOT break, amazing ! We have since purchased an additional set for our summer rental house and have not experienced a single break. I highly recommend these good looking and ergonomically comfortable glasses. I’m a bit baffled at the few negative reviews which I luckily ignored.

Dangerous - Do Not Purchase

DO NOT BUY THESE GLASSES - Read other one star reviews first. We did not read the one star reviews and purchased the 18-Piece Duralex glasses. We put the glasses in the dishwasher prior to use. The next morning my daughter was putting the dishes away. She removed one of these glasses from the dishwasher, and it exploded in her hand sending shards of glass throughout the kitchen, and inside our dishwasher. We boxed the other 17 glasses up, and sent them back to Amazon.

I don’t normally take the time to leave a review but for the sake of saving someone the hassle of being disappointed in these glasses, I will. I wanted to love these glasses and when the first set arrived with etching, chips and black smudges within the contours of the glass, I thought it was a bad batch. Amazon sent me a replacement set the next day but sadly the second set was worse than the first, including fingerprints within the glass. I would not recommend buying these glasses online but in store where you can inspect each glass.

Like other reviewers, I am shocked at what happens with these glasses. They can literally explode into millions of pieces at just the slightest touch on the wrong spot. Once, it happened in my hand and I got cuts all down my arm. Once for my daughter - it would have hurt her eye if she didn't wear glasses. And, today, the third glass exploded in my dishwasher (see picture), causing major damage to the machine. This is a health hazard and huge problem. I am clearly not the only one with these issues and plan on contacting the manufacturer directly.

I recently purchased another brand from an online home goods retailer...when they arrived, I was so disappointed. The glass was thick and hazy--that is, cheapo! It was a company that used to have a good reputation in the U. S., but no more! I packed them back up & gave them to a neighbor with a lot of kids--they don't need "fancy" drinking glasses at this stage. I then went back to Amazon and bought these French-made glasses. They're lighter, the glass is delicate, and they're well-crafted. All the sizes I need and use. Much classier. (I'm trying to eliminate as much plastic from my life as possible--maybe it makes sense to use plastic cups for young children and for some bathroom products, but our environment doesn't need more everlasting plastic. And maybe kids will get the idea that everything shouldn't be disposable, like styrofoam!) If I had company more often, I'd go for crystal; these are nice everyday glassware.

I ordered the 18 glass set. The 6 small and the 6 medium glasses were perfect. The 6 large glasses were not. The base of all the large glasses is not leveled. The glasses move side to side when set on the table. Bad quality control. I needed more of the large glasses and decide to buy them at a store where I could inspect them. The lady at the store opened the box and those glasses were all fine.
It may be worth mentioning that the 6 small and 6 medium glasses came in the original packaging. The large glasses came in a generic box.

Best glasses ever! I mean really, who gets excited about glasses?! Well now, I do. They are heavy, but in a wonderful way. Like I drink from them and wonderful if I deserve such a lovely, Paris-ish feeling. My husband said they felt good in his hand. Who says that about a glass?! But these are special. And they're sturdy. One reason I bought them was to see if i could have a glass glass that I could possibly not break in the first week. Well, I've bounced 2 of them against the sink and no breaks yet. So smooth. and nice size as well. I would be the person in the group wondering why anyone would fuss over a glass ...until now. These are beautiful, elegant, sturdy feeling, smooth as silk, and somehow unique, but simple.

LOVE these glasses

I love these glasses because they're a classic French Cafe design, they nest, they are tempered and can go from ice water to boiled water without even a worry of shattering, are reasonably priced and come in several convenient sizes including a small set which nest in the top of their own water/wine/whatever carafe. The Duralex company is a very old company which perfected the process of glass tempering in France after WWII: if you have a Duralex set from the 1950's they're likely still in one piece to this day, although probably scratched a bit, because these are some of the toughest glasses I've ever used so I finally broke down and put together a set as a gift to our house. I recommend them to any person who likes old school, solid, "approved -by-Martha Stewart-type" kitchen stuff that just works well. It's a good thing. ;-) The Marine color is sharper and bluer than the picture above: the picture does the color no justice. My only complaint is I wish the larger sizes were more widely available in the Marine and Amber colors.

Good quality, minor issue

We often drop and break glasses in my house and so we need to replace them pretty regularly, but I kept having an issue with the glass sets being discontinued. So this time I decided to go with something classic and easy to match when replacing. And now that we’ve broken a few, I am back here to order replacements... easy peasy and I don’t have to spend a lot on a whole new set.

These glasses are pretty sturdy, they’ve only broken when dropped on the terrazzo floor. They are a nice shape and feel good to pickup. I like the different sizes. Good thickness. Flat, stable bottom (my last set was rounded and they tipped easily... not these!)

A couple of the glasses had an uneven spot or bump on the rim that didn't feel nice when you ran your finger along it (wasn’t smooth, but not sharp either). I considered returning them due to that, however I decided against it. I’m glad I kept the glasses because it hasn’t been an issue at all... I think they smoothed out because I just checked the ones I have left and they’re all smooth at the rim. (We broke 4, one small and three large... I guess it’s possible those ones with the bump in the rim got broken already).

Not perfect glasses, but overall really good!

Danger - do not purchase!

Dangerous - do not buy these glasses. Received a set three days ago. We expected tempered glasses to be safer and more durable than the cheaper (but similar) product from Ikea. Wrong! At the first washing in the dishwasher, two glasses shed 1 1/2" long, potentially dangerous slivers from the top edge of the glasses. I am just glad the slivers were spotted before someone got seriously hurt.
