I included some (not very great) iPhone pictures to show how well the card worked for white balance. It’s exactly what was hoping for! I feel like the card is thicker than what I expected because previous review made me think it was going to be thin and flimsy. Can’t beat the price and it’s great for someone looking for something similar but on a budget! The only thing I would critique is I wish it was more matte and less of a satin finish.. just glad it isn’t glossy.

Cheaply made but good enough

There are 2 cards in the pack which is nice. This card is on pretty lightweight stock that is thinner than a postcard. So, don't expect great durability but at this price it's good enough. I have a full sized MacBeth color chart that uses earth pigments that are superb color matches. This card is not in that league but it should help you to get consistency and reliability in your photos. I recommend that you carry this with you and take a shot of it in the same light as your subject every time the lighting changes. It will save you a lot of time later trying to get accurate color matching.

I wasn't sure about how well this would help me when I ordered, but it was on the 'list' of things to do in order to get the best picture. Very impressed.

I got this to tweak the image settings for my church streaming setup. Up to then I was just tweaking the image settings by eye and getting so-so results. The image was just not right...washed out or blooming with white - colors not looking quite right etc.

I took about 15 minutes to watch some YouTube videos that explain the process then another 15 minutes or so tweaking the camera settings with the card and it has made a HUGE difference. Most of my time was spend running from the booth to the stage. The actual settings tweaks were quick and easy.

Very much worth having these on hand.

Does what I need it to do

Shooting miniatures and figures in a tabletop studio can result in some color shift due to reflected colors from the background or even the item being photographed. This card gives me white balance and color checks. I cannot speak to its absolute accuracy, but visually it is consistent with the advertised values. Once I get the images into Photoshop, I use the values to give consistent color rendition. (See the Web for hundreds of tutorials on how to do this.) It is quick , easy and gives superior results. It ir even a simple white card can really increase your photography game in these situations.

The second card can be taken on the road for when you are dealing with a lighting situation where you have LED, fluorescent and tungsten lights and need help deciding what to use for the white balance. (That was me at the IX Center during a prior Cleveland Auto Show.) You still might not be able to reach perfection, but you can examine the trades.

I own the more expensive color checker that I use for commercial shoots, but for events I always keep one of these in my bag to throw on a podium. It really helps with mixed stage lighting, (LEDs etc), or in run and gun environments. Great for custom white balancing too. Yes they do wear out, I usually buy a set of 2 every year or so.

This is a nice little chart that is small and easy to use. I used it on a video shoot this weekend and I knew lighting was going to change with the sun. I slipped this in with the slate at the beginning of each shot and I was able to keep the look the same.

The 18% gray card on the back is great for white balancing and if you want to get a good exposure that is the value on camera meters average too.

My only complaint is that it is a bit shiny in direct light. It can make it hard to find the true color of the chart in a picture when all you have is light reflections screaming back in the camera. Other than that it is a valuable tool to have.

Glossy surface and lack of software makes this almost unusable

The reason you want a color card is to easily be able to adjust white balance and colors post production in a variety of different settings.

The first issue is that the cards are glossy, so depending on where you’re shooting, you might not get a good neutral shot to correct white balance.

The second issue is that since there is no software, you need to manually adjust all the colors based on the colorimetry data. If you plan to use this at multiple locations, that’s a massively time consuming process. Not to mention it’s probably easier to just wing it on a color calibrated monitor.

I ended up with the SpyderChkr24 which is a matte card that’s much higher quality and comes with software to automate the process of color correction.

If you’re honestly willing to go this in depth with your photography, it’s absolutely worth the extra $35 dollars for the SpyderCheckr24.

Good value for the price

The print quality of the color squares is fairly low, i.e. low DPI. That said, it is a good value since you get two cards. The effect of setting white balance is really good using this too. Attached images are from a digital camera, but my intent was to use it with film as I develop/scan my own film.

Comes with some informational cards too, which are good if you're new to photography. So that is a plus.

EDIT: The images got uploaded in reverse order. The warmer one is adjusted and the bluer/cooler one is unadjusted. The warm tone is much closer to how it appeared in person.
