Stay away from the new version if you are a longtime fan of the game. The rules changed and they've gone really cheap on the pieces. The new boards for writing on are really cheap cardboard and don't have space to hold the cards alongside. There's only enough boards for 4 players. If you like Scattergories save your time and get an older verison.

My kids opened this game today and was very disappointed. We had the original Scattergories and it was awesome! It came with 6 quality boards that had a slot to hold the list of cards. We're a family of 6 and the older version was a hit with our family. The older version also came with an electric timer which is a plus too because you can concentrate on writing your answers instead of having to look up every so often to see if the sand has ran out of the timer. With this version you only get 4 boards and no slot to hold the card list. You have to hold the cards in your hands or put them to the side instead of being able to clip them to your board. The boards themselves aren't as large or as sturdy as the previous version. The electric timer is not included in this game and they use a sand timer. This really takes the enjoyment out of the game, if I had known this I wouldn't have purchased this version. Good thing we still have our electric timer and it works great, so we used it today. The only reason I purchased this game is because I thought I was getting what we had before. We played the previous version so much for years and we eventually needed to replace it. I'm going to look for the original version (Milton Bradley) on EBAY so we can get what we had before.

Classic party game. You can play with as many people as you want even though the game reads 2 to 4 teams. You really don't even need teams. I recently played with seven individuals. Its a great creative game. Clever people do well but can often hinder themselves by missing the easiest options. All you need is the list for everyone to see, a pen and pad of paper for each player and the letter die. You roll the die and it chooses a letter, then using the list you write down answers that begin with that letter for each item on the list. You score points for having something others don't have. For example, you roll a "T". The list has things to do on a date. You can write "Travel", "Talk", or whatever "T" words works. The next listed item may read"Famous Cartoon Characters" in which you answer "Tony the Tiger". After the timer runs out (its a pretty lengthy timer and does give enough timer to review each listed item and think about it), you then compare answers among the group one listed item at a time. If someone else wrote Travel and so did you neither player gets a point, but if only you did, you score a point. If you wrote Tony the Tiger, and no one else did you would score three points! One for each "T" in the name. You play off of multiple lists and total up the points to see who wins!

This is the best game to play with adults and young children all together. This past Christmas we went as an extended family to the mountains in Red River to ski. My brother and his three pre-teen and teen kiddos, me and my 17 year old, and my parents all stayed in a cabin that was furnished. In the den there were several games, many of which we had never played before. The kids pulled this one out and it was the hit of the vacation. We lit a fire, made hot chocolate and played games and no one even missed the television! It is played where one player rolls a dice and whatever letter comes up, each team has to answer the questions on their card with a name or word that begins with that letter. It is better to do something no one else would think about because if more than one team uses the same name or word, they cancel each other out. You get points for the number of questions you answer before the timer goes off. The kids looked forward to playing this game every night and switching up teams. There was no fighting because there were adults on teams mixed with the kids and the subjects were so random that some nights one team would win then the kids would want to switch teams the next night and because of the change in subjects another team might win. It was just an all out fun time playing together without all the digital/social media interruptions.

Just had family game night last night and we all loved it! Only drawback, the timer. This one doesn't have a winding one that beeps at you, which is necessary for this game, it has an hourglass. Players are distracted because we all keeps looking up to see if the sand is gone yet. However, it is an easy fix to use your phone timer instead. Timer is the only reason it got dropped a star.

The ONLY reason I am giving this review 3 stars is because of the actual game. Let me be clear- I LOVE Scattergories but the hardware is absolutely atrocious. You can see the devolution of the hardware just by looking at past editions of the game. The cardboard booklets that detail the rules/that you use during play have already begun to fall apart at the crease after only a few uses. The manufacturers now use a sand timer as opposed to the battery-operated timer that came with previous editions. This is just annoying because you have to keep looking up to check the sand which takes time and concentration away from your game! I cannot tell you how disappointed I was when I opened the game. The booklets aren't big enough to slide the cards into and the game only comes with four booklets and four sets of cards. The old games came with six. Hasbro- STOP BEING SO CHEAP. It is kind of disgusting.

Another fabulous language-based board game...........there is a version for kids and another for adults. Challenging for kids and adults! Great fun, everyone loves it. I am a language therapist and my students always ask for this again and again - my grandchildren also love it. Need to be able to write answers so I'd say that the youngest age range should be grades 2-3.

I love Scattergories, but I had lost some of the cards to my old version. I bought this thinking it would just have more and probably new cards. The format is fine, I like that they give you a folder to put your card in and I don't even mind that the cards are small. What disappointed me is that there are only 4 folders and only 4 people (or 4 "teams") can play at a time. Teams are okay, but then, the small size of the cards is a little bit of a problem and it would really be better if there were at least 6 folders. You should get more for your money.

I like this game, it's not easy with the timer, you have to think fast but it's fun and makes you think. We'll have to play it a few more times for my son and husband to really start to like it!

We are game players and somehow never played this one before.
Great for a crowd of different ages. It is about thinking creatively .
Even good with memory loss seniors because it isn't too specific
