Small overall, seem good for child's gear or ultralight travel

Summary: Strong initial impression of quality; small sizes overall - plan accordingly; wish EC offered more than four colors, for color-coding.

Just received the 3-cube EC Pack-It set, which I ordered at the same time as a Travelwise 3-cube set. The Eagle Creek set is smaller overall, which works for me as I plan to use it for my 6yo's clothing for an upcoming multi-week, multi-stop trip.

- The largest cube (~10 x 14") is *roughly* the size of a large-format magazine, and 3" deep.
- The middle size (9" x 7") is about the size of a small cereal box, or slightly bigger than a guidebook (DK Eyewitness size, not Rick Steves).
- And the smallest cube (8 x 4") is about the size of a Jambox speaker or three iPhones in a row. (Why is this size info not available on Amazon's product page?? Also, just noticed than one of the Amazon reviews says they received one large and two half-cubes. I actually would've preferred that set.)

ETA: Went over to the Eagle Creek site and the items in this set are classifed as: cube, half-cube, quarter cube.

The interior seams are nicely finished and zippers work smoothly (there are double/two-way zippers for each bag, so you can open or close at any point along the opening). I hope to report back on the durability and stain resistance of the fabric/mesh after we get back from our trip, but for now it seems sturdy enough. The mesh is the same color as the fabric (vs. the Travelwise set which has black mesh). I'm pleased that the cubes did not have a strong plastic smell when I took them out of the package.

For a starter set I like the quality of the items, but wish the cube sizes were larger across the board or that there were two of the largest size and one small cube (rather than XS/S/M). Note that I am planning to use this to pack a (shared) family suitcase; I might find the current combination just perfect if I was trying to do one-bag travel for myself. (The largest EC cube is about the size of the Travelwise medium cube.)

Going forward I may add another cube (largest size in this set) or the double cube, which is available separately.

And just for the wish list, it would be great if Eagle Creek had more colors available for the Pack-It system beyond black, blue, green, red. (I ordered the Travelwise set because EC doesn't offer purple.) With multiple family members sharing a bag, it's nice to be able to color-code to other travel things we already own.

Don't save room, and don't organize as well as compression cubes.

I returned these immediately after packing one cube as if I were packing a suitcase. I've always rolled my clothing for travel, so this wasn't a new experience; but, the cubes did not add any convenience to the process. After returning I immediately bought the Eagle Creek compression cubes which are terrific. They are well worth the extra money and I am totally satisfied with them. I highly recommend spending a little more and getting the compression cubes and foregoing the non-compression cubes.

Good quality and fairly lightweight. An organized traveler's dream

Love these packing cubes. They feel like quality and have a lifetime warranty. The three peice kit comes with the extra small, small, and medium cube; some people call them the quarter, half, and full cube. I also bought the slim cube as part of the bundle. See my photos. There is also a large "double cube" you can buy separately.

Pay attention to the mesh on packing cubes, they are the first to go or get snagged. These Eagle Creek Pack-It cubes have a fine mesh that doesn't eaisly get caught or snagged. The next area to look out for are the seams; they have to handle being stuffed and pulled. The Pack-It cubes seams look up to the job but I'll need more time to judge that. The last thing to check are the zippers, they need to be smooth and not get hung up when over stuffed. Even though they aren't YKK zippers the zippers are amazingly smooth. Eagle Creek did an excellent job with the design and testing.

I really like how packing cubes help you organize your bag. They also makes it easy to swap out clothes without tearing apart your suitcase. Lets you get in and our quick. I supplement my cubes with one Pack-It medium garment folder. With 4 cubes (extra small, small, medium, and slim) and the medium Pack-It folder I can pack enough clothes for 2 weeks in a 22" carry on and still have left over room for things. I like to use the cubes for non dress cloths and the folder for slacks and button up shirts.

Great set for 22” carry on (wheels included)

Great quality, and great sizes for carry on bags. Do note that to fill a carry on with these packing cubes that you will need two “layers” of the cubes. The height of these cubes are about the height of a rolled-up shirt, pants, or pair of socks (intentional, I’m sure). So, this set plus one more of the smallest cube pictured above will complete the bottom layer of the suitcase, and you will need to choose what fits your needs for the top layer—say, the largest cube of this dry and a shoe bag, or what have you.

I plan to get more so my husband and I have full sets—and probably some extras so we can customize to each trip’s needs.

Let's be real. A bag is rarely a perfect shape and sticking a bunch of cubes into it will not allow you to put more in the bag. These will, however, allow you to keep a lot more organized and help make sure you get the same items to fit every time with a lot less wrinkles.

There are a lot of complaints that these aren't as big as the eBags ones but to be honest, I think that Eagle Creek is targeting the more mobile traveler. A single large fills about half my Osprey Farpoint 40 pack so it's a much less flexible option for me. When I pack my 100L rolling duffel to check at the counter, I definitely reach for my large eBags cube but for a backpack, they're simply too big and the extra weight from the heavier cubes are just not worth it to me.

I normally travel with 2 full cubes, a half cube, and one or two quarter cubes depending on what I'm taking. I like the small ones for things like my running shorts/top and swim trunks because it keeps them separate from the rest of my clothes. I also use a compression stuff sack for socks and underwear since wrinkles are meaningless and I can get an extra few days' worth in there.

This setup has allowed me to pack a full 10 days into my Farpoint pack without having to wash clothes. I bring small trash bags and pack my clean and dirty clothes into the same cubes they came from by wrapping them in the bags. it's been a very efficient way to travel and I've never found myself needing more.

So if you are packing light and looking to maximize what you can fit into a backpack, get these. If you're packing for multiple people and/or into a huge suitcase, the ebags are more than likely what you need.

I bought two sets of these and will probably buy more. I bought them for a vacation with my wife and I think she thought I was kind of an idiot because I bought little bags to pack in our bags. But when it came time to pack, she LOVED them.

It's a really simple concept but they're executed flawlessly. The zippers are solid. The different sizes are all useful. They're breathable.

I've literally never felt like my bag was bigger. I packed all my clothes and closed by bag only to realize I forget to pack my hiking boots. I was ready to repack. Then I opened my bag, took out a couple packing cubes, put the boots in and put the cubes right back on top.

There's so much more room. It's so much more organized. It's really much better.

We're buying more before our next trip and probably giving them as stocking stuffers this holiday season. These are awesome.

Best cube set for non-ultralight travel

These are the exact same black colored Eagle Creek Pack It cube that you can find in REI, except there are more color choices here on Amazon. I have used all kinds of packing cubes in the past including eBags, Gonex, Uncharted, and these are simplified my favor so far. Instead of regular ripstop fabric that all other brand uses, these are made of thicker nylon with significantly thicker mesh. The pros for using thicker and non-stretchable material means that it offers more compression without affecting the overall size. Also, it is good for holding sharper things like charger and cable with prong without the fear of ripping through. They are slightly heavier than ripstop but not by much. The zippers are not YKK but they are sturdy and smooth. The measurements for the set is true to advertise. You can place the 4 full cubes in a 21" carry-on luggage with about 2 inches to spare on the side to put the quarter cubes in.

It's been a few trips so far and they are looking like they were in day one, I can foresee that I'll be using them years to come.

Durable and great for keeping clothes organized

I just finished two weeks of travel with these cubes. I chose them because Wirecutter recommended them, and I agree that they seem well made and durable.

The small cube held 7 pair of tightly folded underwear. Medium cube held 5-7 tee-shirts (sorry, can't remember exactly how many I put in there). Large cube held a couple jersey/blazers, pajamas, leggings, etc.--I didn't end up filling the large bag completely. As an aside, gym clothes/shoes and bathroom items went in their own separate bags (not these cubes). I packed jeans and sandals loose. Everything fit perfectly in a standard overhead compartment roller bag.

I travel a lot, but this is my first experience using cubes, and I will use them from now on. Much easier to pack, find, and repack--especially when you don't have a dresser available to you. It just makes you feel more organized. In the future though, I'll bring along a small duffel or plastic bag for dirty laundry.

Very convenient to pack and they work like self contained drawers upon arrival

I used the larger cube to pack 1 pair of jeans, 3 different casual shirts, a sweater, and some pajamas. I used the medium sized cube to pack socks, under garmets, and workout wear. The smallest cube didn't originally have a need to fill so I used it as a technology pouch, keeping all my cords easy to access. They are easy to use b/c you can load the cubes while flat but then they transport in a duffel or suitcase without wasted space. As easy as they are to load, they work even better upon arrival b/c they keep my clothes accessible and organized. It's like having a dresser inside of my suitcase. No more digging everything out to find that one item! I could have easily packed more into each cube. Now that I've proven to myself that this was a worthwhile purchase with a single trip, I'm going to get another set or two for my family members.
