I bought this to squeeze juice from ginger root, which is very tough and fibrous, so I wasn't sure if it would work. It works like a charm! From the initial opening of the package to the final cleaning of the residue, here are the things I particularly liked about this "garlic" press:
1) It's well packaged--both attractive and practical.
2) The materials are quality. Not only is the press well designed and manufactured--very sturdy--but the hinged parts move easily.
3) It has great leverage and it works! I'm fairly strong, but my hands are a little arthritic, so it's not like I can apply the oomph of a blacksmith to make this work, especially with something as resistant as ginger root. Applying the strength that I have, the ginger root juiced right out. A little surprised, somewhat amazed, and very pleased.
4) Then there's the cleaning, which is usually a big ick for such things--especially with the ginger root fibers wedged through the little holes. It took a bit of application, but rinsing and using the little brush provided, the press clean up nicely.
