Ok so let me start by thanking The Spice Lab for their excellent customer service and following up with me after my purchase. Now let's get to my opinion on the peppercorn I purchased. When it comes to peppercorn I am no expert when it comes to the prisice size it should be and so on but I do cook A LOT, therefore I use my nose and tastebuds a whole lot and have used other peppercorn brands. With that said, The Spice Lab Whole Black Tellicherry Peppercorn has a divine smell and the flavor is intense and it gives my dishes that extra kick and flavor that we love in my household. We enjoy bold flavorful foods, so good quality spices are very important in our daily cooking routine. The Spice Lab peppercorns have officially become part of our pantry family :). One last thing, Thank you so very much for the recipe book!!! Once again, great customer service.

Not tellicherry peppercorns!

Tellicherry peppercorns are determined by they're larger size. These are definitely not tellicherry peppercorns. On my photo on the left are Frontier brand regular black peppercorns and on the right are the much smaller spice lab black tellicherry peppercorns. Sending the spice lab peppercorns back and trying another brand for tellicherry peppercorns. I should have known by Spice Labs cheap price that something was up.

I've always liked Tellicherry peppercorns for their aroma and special taste. I just learned that what makes them Tellicherry is that they're allowed to remain on the vine longer and get larger, which allows them to develop their more refined aroma. Makes me think of an aged Cabernet Sauvignon.

Costco used to have Tellicherry, but now their same container has just peppercorns.

Spice Lab Tellicherry peppercorns are as I expected them to be. Just right!

This pepper just taste better for some reason. It tastes very fresh and has a strong fragrance to it as well. I usually just get my pepper from Walmart or aldis and this taste better then both. So good thing I gave it a try. It's a little more pricey but worth it. When I run out I will be coming back! THANK YOU FOR A GREAT PRODUCT!

I bought this in Dec 2019, for $12. I use a fair amount of black pepper, and go through a pound in about 6 months.

I think this is decent pepper, but I am surprised it has 4.8 stars across over 3300 reviews. That is definitely too high!

I'm giving it 3 stars, although I think that 3.5 would be more appropriate, especially considering that it’s better than two other brands I just reviewed (Frontier and Viva Doria), and which also got 3 stars.

For the last couple years, I’ve been trying different Tellicherry peppercorns, since my favorite brand became mostly unavailable.
(That was Indus Organics; the pepper was fantastic — complex, fruity, lots of taste and aroma. I have not found one that can match it so far.)

I found these peppercorns to have moderate heat (which is a compliment), and a moderate amount of flavor and complexity in taste and aroma (which is less of a compliment).

Upon opening the container, there was some fragrance, not a lot, but more than Viva Doria. It had perhaps less fragrance than Frontier brand, but that one’s aroma was all eucalyptus. I’d say the Spice Lab smelled better.

I proceeded to sample a few whole berries, one at a time, which was okay, a little disappointing. Compared to my favorite, there was less flavor in terms of fruitiness and floral quality. I’d say it’s fairly balanced, but not as good as what i know is possible.

They do also seem a bit small for Tellicherry, although that can be said for many other brands, as well.

On food:

For black pepper, I usually prefer a pretty coarse grind, because when you sprinkle on food (e.g., pasta), and then get a bit that crunches in your mouth, it provides a burst of complex flavors — ideally.

This pepper delivers a bit of that, but less than I would like. Again, it’s better than Viva Doria or Frontier, but definitely can’t compete with my (unavailable) favorite.

The price was reasonable when I bought it, and the refill pack (the one in the bag instead of a rigid plastic container) is quite a good deal at only $9. I’m looking for a little more than this pepper can offer, but it’s not bad, so if you’re not making the highest demands of your pepper, it’s a good value at this price.

I've purchased 2 other orders from The Spice Lab in the last 2 years and both were fairly large orders with at least 6 different 1 pound bags of spices per order and everything was high quality and a very good value especially compared to the mass-produced stuff carried in supermarkets like McCormick brand. 6oz or 8oz "large" refill bottles of McCormick peppercorns from any grocery store cost about the same amount as this 1 pound bag, and The Spice Lab spices are much more aromatic/pungent/fresh/concentrated flavor compared to McCormick or other mass-produced grocery store brand spices. For instance I used to use 4 teaspoons of freshly ground McCormick peppercorns for 6 servings of my pasta carbonara, but I only need 2.5 teaspoons of The Spice Lab peppercorns for the same flavor.

My "go to" peppercorns have for quite a few years been those in the Costco disposable grinders. Very good pepper. But recently I decided to make use of an old Unicorn pepper mill that I bought years ago at a ridiculous price and decided, after some Internet research, to try Tellicherry corns. Now, I don't know what to make of the claim by some reviewers that there are not genuine Tellicherry, but I can say that this is the tastiest black pepper I've ever had and obviously very fresh. I know Costco used to sell Tellicherries, and I used to buy them, but I don't recall them being so good.

Reason for 1 star review? Bad packaging. Pouch EPIC failed. Press seal separated from inner liner. Impossible to re-seal pouch to keep out air. How are the peppercorns going to maintain freshness till Best By date? I received item with a Best By date 23 months away from date of purchase. Listing claims "Sold in our reseable bag unlike our competitors. AIR, HEAT and LIGHT are the enemy for fresh PEPPERCORNS!"

I spent most of my adult life cooking with a microwave. It's embarrassing. I chose to get serious about cooking and am learning things as I go. Now I'm learning HOW NOT TO BUY SPICES. Also got an electric pepper mill and I think the taste of fresh ground pepper is a significant a step up from ready-to-use ground pepper. It's good today. Probably good next month. But still fresh in 12 months? We'll see.

No. I don't have another container to store the peppercorns. I expect some of you will think I'm an idiot. That's fine. Doesn't change how I feel about the packaging.

Wish someone showed me a smarter alternative like:
