Anthony’s Potato Starch is NOT RESISTENT STARCH as the online-ad states

I bought this product because the online-ad labelled it as Resistant Starch, which means that it resists digestion in the small intestine. Starch that is not digested in the small intestine is called fiber. Fiber is fermented in the large intestine to produce essential Short Chain Fatty Acids, the whole point of buying Resistant Starch. After receiving the product, I saw that the Nutrition Facts label lists “Dietary Fiber as less than 0g 0%” which makes the online Resistant Starch label untrue.
As things stand now, Amazon does not allow a refund or return of this online-mislabeled product nor does the little check box work to inform Amazon that the product information is incorrect.

Organic and at a good price.

Edit: I asked the company if their product is unmodified, and they answered,"Yes, here is the process we use - Certified organic potatoes are washed and then grated to allow the starch to be removed from the potato. The starch is then washed, screened, and packed - it is unmodified."

As I understand, unmodified starch is essential for use as a probiotic aid, versus modified (which processes the starch for commercial application and results in much less available resistant starch). Resistant just means less digestible so it hangs around in the colon longer feeding healthy bacteria which is how resistant starch is a probiotic aid.

I was concerned that I didn't see a 'certified by' on the label. Non organic potatoes can be full of pesticides and I believe potatoes are maintaining their place of honor on the dirty dozen list. I contacted Anthony's and I'm happy to find that it is certified. This was their reply, "Our Organic Potato Starch was certified by Quality Assurance International, who inspected and gave our Organic Potato Starch the title of National Organic Program Certificate of Compliance - Certified Organic."

Five pounds for under $22 is a good price for an organic potato starch so I will continue to buy it here on Amazon.

I ordered the product and will edit this review after using it. I mainly use potato starch for butyrate production for colon health, and to maintain healthy insulin sensitivity and blood glucose levels (I used to have metabolic syndrome). I add it to smoothies, sauces, and more. I caution those who are new to it, start out slowly, especially if you have bowel issues.

Revised 10/25/2015: I see that the package now says certified gluten-free! Coolness!!!! Thank you very much, Anthony's!!!!! As far as I know, this is the *only* gluten-free organic potato starch on the market anywhere! I have used this before, when they were using their old manufacturing process, and it is an excellent potato starch.

Oh no! I was SO EXCITED when I found this product, because it was the only potato starch I have ever found that was both organic and gluten-free. But then it disappeared from the market for a while, as the company moved to a new facility. And now it isn't marked "gluten-free" anymore, and when I zoom in on the packaging I see the label says that it is made in a facility shared with wheat. Oh Anthony's, what have you done??? Now I cannot buy this item anymore, and nobody else makes it. Why, oh why, does nobody make a gluten-free organic potato starch?

Decided to mix things up given that Bob's Red Mill has gotten increasingly expensive over the last year... part of me is happy to see resistant starch gaining traction and more people buying potato starch presumably with this aim, but given that every blog links to Bob's Red, it's really driven the price up which I'm not thrilled about. Anyway, given that it costs only 10% more to get organic vs the normal Bob's Red and I'm always up to try something new, I figured I'd give this a go, and while the old package size was perfect for the container I kept it in, and this one I have to cautiously pour in to my canister, no other complaints. Relatively happy with it, and if I didn't have the canister issue, I'd probably stick with this, but when my next subscription ships, I might go back to Bob's Red... TBD. Give it a shot though, keep competition alive :)
