How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we donโ€™t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

3.0 out of 5 starsGood content, bad formatting

There are lots of nuggets of shell wisdom and cleverness, as promised. But instead of compact, monospaced blocks, the CLI examples are in bold, proportional font, and double-spaced to boot. It makes a lot of the content almost impossible to understand.

4.0 out of 5 stars Please forgive me but a

I know this book gets good reviews based on its value against amount learned equating to what would be a popular book. However my distaste towards this book came on page 1. With an attempt at a pun and some common stereotyping on the very first page none the less. A poor attempt to relate a ninja master (of japan) to that of a master of the Chinese king fu. This is completely ignorant and I may suggest the author spend significant time doing adequate research on the differences between the traditional fighting identities of both China and Japan! But beyond that minor oversight that I'm still trying to fight past... i would have to say... that if you are New, Learning, Intrested, or a seasoned clUser. By the time you forget about the Sumo Penguin with a Katana you should have a reasonable cl experience that sticks around enough to help you progress throughout your linux and cl journey.

4.0 out of 5 stars A decent tome with a lot of good useful insights

I liked this book, i read it in about 30 minutes, and then skimmed through it again the next day. As someone with equivalent experience as the author, let me say that I would love to work with someone like the author as its a joy when there are people around with above-minimum skill set. There are many many useful examples in this book, yet I've discovered after thumbing through it, looking for a few secrets, I realized they werent in there and the elite knowledge of the command line continues to be tribal.

If you are just getting to know the command line or been working mouse free since 93'. This is a handy book to have around. But its even better as a gift for that friend that just cant quite get it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful tips

Useful tips but curious omissions. Like if I'm waiting for a command to complete successfully, I'm not going to "while true" and "break"; I'll just use "until". Still, lots of gems to be found here.

5.0 out of 5 stars I didn't know . . .

Perhaps this was written more with Unix as a reference instead of Gnu/Linux. I'll admit I didn't read any foreword or preface that may have been in the book...I dove right into the meat of the book. The vast majority of the shortcuts work very well, and I was excited to learn them. Some things that use regular expressions don't work quite right, but I've noticed that to be the case even relative to the grep manual provided by my operating system. I keep my Kindle handy at the computer so I can reference the book when I forget something or need possibly another shortcut. This book didn't make my day, it made my whole week!

Don't know if my brain is partially fried from looking at config files, but this was really easy to read.
