Best FRESH Coffee Ever! Good for sensitive stomach!

Best Coffee Ever!
I'm always hesitant even if a product has great reviews so I tried it out myself.
I got the "Kicking Horse Coffee, Kick Ass, Dark Roast."

I've been trying out different coffee and this one and Lavazza are best.
I actually think I like this better though because it really is FRESH. Just opening it was a beautiful smell. It did not smell rancid like other coffee beans or have a sour taste.

I love how it has a deep dark slightly bitter (NOT sour or acidic) taste. Kind of like semi-sweet or dark chocolate. It left a "clean" feeling.

If that makes any sense it's like having a homemade cookie vs a processed cookie. One tastes good and make you feel good after while the processed tastes good but after makes you feel sick.

I have a sensitive stomach so this was AWESOME. It did not give me cramps or a headache!
Definitely going to be my number one pick. :)

I grinded 10g coffee beans in my Epica burr for 5 seconds to achieve a medium-coarse texture.
I measured out 6oz. of fresh filtered water and placed it all together in my Moka Pot under medium heat.
I like 50/50 of coffee and milk.

So happy to find a coffee that met all my expectations. Dark, bold, not acidic/sour, doesn't upset stomach and is fresh and affordable! Woohoo!

Poor quality control??

I have been drinking this coffee for about a year now. It was one of the best coffees I have found in a very long time! Unfortunately, now I am getting bags that are stale and or the flavor is not nearly the same as it was (BAD)!!
So, I get hooked on a decent coffee and then quality control goes out the window?? I hope this isn’t true! I will see if I can stomach another bag... However, If it’s as horrible like the last couple bags, I’m done with this coffee!

Simply Outstanding - the entire family agrees! I don't do many reviews but after purchasing and drinking all week, I had to this time. A full, deep, rich, velvety cup of coffee - WITHOUT the bitter, burnt, sludge-like aftertaste (You Know . . . . "coffee" from that large-chain coffee company that has managed to convince the lemmings it actually tastes good once it's covered up with 10 thousand calories of flavorings).

If cream and/or sugar is part of your routine, it takes very little of either to "tone down" a strong cup. Like most people, I've been searching for great coffee (whole bean) for the last 20 years. If you're interested in what I'm comparing 454 to, here's a history of past "likes", starting with the earliest favorite:

Seattle's Best (until it was bought out by "you know who" years ago)

New Favorite: Kicking Horse Coffee, 454 Horse Power

Again - BIG flavor, no bitterness. One thing I found interesting - the smell when it's initially ground. You know how we always say "It would be nice if coffee tasted like it smells?" It doesn't start out with that huge coffee smell like others do, but the FLAVOR actually tastes like what other coffee's only smell like. BUY IT. GRIND IT. ENJOY IT. P.S. By now, most people already know this - but if you don't have a filtered water system, or a coffee machine with a built in water filter, do yourself a BIG favor and buy a ZeroWater or Brita Pitcher - and use it! Whichever coffee you like, you'll just like it better!

I like coffee. I'm not a person who needs to completely drown the taste of coffee with cream and sugar just to dish it, but i have never like black coffee. It's always way too bitter so I'm usually someone who like ice and a serving or two of a light creamer, no sugar. That being said, this coffee is so good, I can drink it straight black. A small splash of creamer evens it out, but it's not necessary. I highly recommend this! We accidentally bought whole bean without owning a grinder and the first batch, the grounds weren't ground enough, and even watered down and super acidic the taste was excellent (though i do not recommend undergrinding the coffee, haha)

I am a coffee lover! The strength was not as dark as I do know they have a few brands within the brand, I like a strong dark for my Moka Pot, the flavor was not good for me, doesn't mean it won't be for you, price is right and will have to revisit another cup before I can really say it is bad because it is not my strength. Medium roast I believe and the darker had an unpleasant aftertaste. If you like a medium roast at a great price, this is a good choice. Packaging is well sealed and dated so you know you get a few batch too. And I don't get jittery. I needed to re-edit as it is the dark roasted and the 3 sister's is the one that is still sitting on my shelf lol. Sorry for the confusion, I will have to reorder THIS one! Confusing! Too many to choose from!

Great coffee, very fresh and good flavor. I tried this coffee after reading some articles online, it is great coffee. Fore personally it is a bit on the bitter side or something. I bought death wish coffee and maybe it spoiled me. Way better than any store bought brand I've tried besides whole bean starbucks Sumatra. I use a gooseneck kettle with pour over stainless steel filter. I really would give it a 4.5/5. Just not quite there on the flavor forecast personally, kinda of earthy and just a tad in the bitter side. I lean more towards the sweet side since I drink straight black coffee, been drinking black coffee for 14 years. But really this blows away Folgers, max, and all the big brands, those get a 1 or less on my coffee scale. Plus the DW is the best hands down, it's just 20$ a bag vs 7$. I would buy again, definitely try out some other flavors they offer.

I was hoping this "Dark Roast" coffee would be closer to a french roast. Kicking Horse doesn't seem to offer anything roasted to that level. Using only arabica beans, they don't stand up to the darker roasts as well as the harder coffee beans. This was a pleasant cup of coffee, with just enough roasting to give it some chocolaty nuances, but it is not the dark roast I was looking for. :-)

I recently bought some pricey beans from another vendor that were rated with scores of 90+ at a respected coffee review site. And they were quality beans. However, I could not make them work with drip, just had a sour edge no matter how fine I ground the beans. Crazy good flavor with pour-over, but I don't have time to do that every day. Kicking Horse Kick Ass works great with a drip machine. Smooth, low acidity, flavorful. Beans are fresh. I give it a slight edge over Grizzly Claw. But Grizzly Claw had a smokiness lacking in Kick Ass, so if that rocks your boat, go for that. I would recommend either as a dark roast that doesn't empty your wallet.

This is a review for the Kickass Dark Roast. I ordered the stuff because of the many great review, (and my preferred brand is currently unavailable) - but I realize now that the reviews listed seem to be for at least two different kinds of coffee (Kickass and Sisters). Anyway. I brew the beans hole because I've found I really like the flavors the long brew draws from the beans. My first cup of this stuff was more smoky-tasting than I'm used to, but not unenjoyable. The couple of cups I made after that were undrinkable. The beans have a very strong, bitter aftertaste. I don't see a roast date on them. I'm glad I didn't spend more money on this because I'm throwing the hole bag out. Bummer.

I can only hope to spare your tastebuds from being violated. This coffee is beyond nasty. I’ve heard of coffee being made from dirty socks but this must have been the entire load, spoiled in the washer and then dried in plastic bags in the stall. I can’t believe there were so many good reviews. I can’t get a refund so I’m just out the money. The only thing this coffee kicked was my wallet.
