5.0 out of 5 starsBought for running a windows VM, works perfectly!
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on September 13, 2022
As the headline says. I run linux, but needed to set up a windows workstation. I really didn't want to install windows and dual boot. I got this for setting up VFIO and even set up Looking Glass so I don't have to give Windows all my HW while running the VM. My 6700 XT is still being used by my Linux machine and I don't really have any specific reason to run games in windows. That was never the purpose of this card for me. If I really want to run a game in windows, but there are ways for me to use the big beefy boy for that if I feel compelled to do that.

Note: VMs do not require their own GPU, but there are some tremendous benefits to it and I highly recommend it!

3.0 out of 5 starsContrary to description, may not fit in a single slot.
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on June 5, 2015
There are several versions being sold as GeForce GT 730, so just to be clear, this review applies to DDR5 64bit card, part number 02G-P3-3733-KR. The manufacture's description for this card says:

Dimensions
Height: 2.718in - 69.04mm
Length: 5.7in - 144.8mm
Width: Single Slot

But this is not so. This may be a great card, but it's heatsink/fan overhangs the next expansion slot. For a typical micro ATX motherboard of the yesteryear that I have (PCI, PCI, PCI-E x1, PCI-E x16), this means loosing the only other PCI-E expansion slot. For me, that slot is already taken by a USB3 card. I need something slimmer, please.

--Update--
I bought a DDR3 version of this card (also with fan), part number 02G-P3-2732-KR, and it fits in a single slot just fine.

--Update 2--
I played with 02G-P3-2732-KR for about a year now (single slot 2GB DDR3 version). It can play Minecraft fine. It will struggle with more demanding games. But really, for performance metrics it is best to go to a benchmarking site, for example videocardbenchmark-dot-net. This card has a rating of 928 or so. This is better than a built-in video chip, even if you have a modern motherboard (for example, Intel HD 4000 is rated 451). Still, this is an entry level card by today's standard.

The Good:
-------------
Fits into a single slot.
Does not take a lot of power to run (I measured about 10 Watts).
Can be configured full height or half height (low profile).
Has many outputs: VGA / DVI / HDMI.
Can work with older versions of Windows (Windows XP and later).
Can provide custom resolution (I have 16:10 monitor that I run at 1024x640 or 1152x720).
Supports DirectX 11.

The Bad:
-----------
Noticeable fan hum.

Let's give this card three stars out of five - one less for misleading specs and one less for fan noise.

I like the better performance then my old card plus easy to install, the downside is the plastic is hard to peel off on some spots around the fan other then that it's the best value for the price of cards right now

5.0 out of 5 stars A Good Card That Doesn't Break The Bank...
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on March 13, 2015
Verified Purchase
I wasn't sure about getting this card at first. I just got a new system and I wanted a card that would play my games but wouldn't kill my budget. I wanted it to have a least 1 gig RAM and I was hoping to get one with GDDR5 type which should give me a bit better bang for the buck. I looked over a number but at this time I just couldn't justify a card costing over a $100. My budget wouldn't allow it. After narrowing the search down to about three cards. I decided on this one. The main reason was the price and the fact that I could upgrade my RAM by a gig to 2 gigs and get GDDR5 RAM to boot. I got it in today and really it's a very nice looking small card that really feels solid when you remove it from the box. It's very well packaged and protected and the slot adapters were the only thing that shifted around in the box when I got it. I have a Dell i5 3847 Inspiron and this card dropped right into the PCIe x16 slot without any problems at all. (In fact, I double checked to make sure it was firmly seated as it fit so nicely down!) After getting the card in I took the system back to the computer room and hooked up all the stuff to it and after double checking the connections and all, I powered the system up. (I must say that I had uninstalled the old on board graphic drivers before I powered the system down.) The system booted up without a problem (Win 8.1 OS) with the Win default drivers. (I noted that someone at MS seems to be listening to people about the problems changing out graphics card and drivers as the default drivers, though not the best, do seem to at least have a resolution you can work from.) I decided not to temp fate and installed the drivers from the drivers disk including,. I took a default installation and things went very well. The system rebooted and my new drivers were installed. I had to update them right away as with most disks the drivers on them are usually out of date. At any rate, once the driver installation was completed, I decided to see I my gut feelings about this card were like my gut feeling about the system I got. First, I cranked up Tomb Raider and fooled around a bit (including the rendering test). It surpassed what I expected for an under $100 card. My old system couldn't hold a candle to it. It was really nice to be able to play the game without any "pauses or stuttering, etc.". I noted that the control of the character seem much smoother and I really liked the feel of not having to sometimes "wait" for the action to "catch up". I then tried Remember Me and boy what a difference! Even with the Unreal engine's known pauses at times, the difference in performance was very, very pronounced. With my old set up, one would have to wait in certain areas for the scenes to load, With the new card and system, I found myself not even realizing I'd just passed thru some of those areas anymore. Most all the action was smooth and on the places where the worst slow downs were, you could hardly notice them now. I also noted the QTE events were easier to manage too. I decided to see how big a heat hit and PS hit I was getting. I did meet the requirements for the PS, but that isn't always all there is to it. Well, I ran up Speecy to see what it showed and to my surprise the HDs were running warmer than the card was! Also I noted no problems with the PS dealing with the card. (This card draws its power from the MB and has no extra lead to the PS.) The system was very stable and it handled everything I could throw at it including a few old Dos games running under DosBox. At this time, the system is running solid and I've seen no problems running anything I've started that would run on Win 8.1. This card is a good buy for those looking for a good solid card that won't break the bank but delivers good performance. Good buy!

4.0 out of 5 stars It's no GTX-series card, but then, it was never meant to be.
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on July 16, 2015

Just to clarify, this review is of the low-profile 2GB GDDR5 model, or the one with the model number of 02G-P3-3733-KR.

I bought this to replace an aging Galaxy GeForce GT 610 card with 2GB DDR3 RAM. I liked the card well enough, but I made the mistake of getting the actively cooled model and the fan has just about completely went out with bad bearings. It still technically works, but it sounds like a rejected Boeing.

I don't do a whole lot of gaming but when I do I like to be able to actually play the game at a resolution higher than 320x240 and a framerate higher than 15. This card does the job admirably, but it has its pitfalls. Don't expect to run anything but the oldest games on anything resembling ultra detail. For the price I really cannot complain, as my next choice was a GTX750Ti but that would have blown my budget completely asunder as I bought other things at the same time as this card with a fixed amount of money. Yes, I was settling, but I am in fact very happy with how this card performs. My only regret is not getting the passively-cooled iteration of this card, but I wanted the full 2GB of GDDR5 RAM and PCI-E x16 interface this card allowed. It's not particularly loud now, but I know that just a few years from now I'll be wishing I had something that wasn't cooled by a fan.

For all this, the card manages a 4-star rating. Like the title says, don't expect GTX-series performance. It's not meant for the same tasks a GTX-series would be.This card is meant mainly for running Windows Aero and running most games just "acceptably" rather than having 60 fps with Ultra detail at 1920x1080. For what it is, the EVGA brand helps a lot and you always know that when you order EVGA products you're getting something that is very well made. This card is made with all solid capacitors -- nothing new in this day and age, but I still remember having to bin cards because an electrolytic cap that was too close to the heatsink blew up. You can, at least in theory, replace capacitors, and I've seen people do it, but I just am not good with a soldering iron.

Long story short, it's a good card. If you're looking for something low-to-mid range, this is a -- if not perfect -- close to perfect card for your needs. I only wish I had managed to get a passively cooled model with 2GB of GDDR5 memory and a PCI-E x16 connector, but that's probably asking for a bit too much.

5.0 out of 5 stars Huge graphics performance boost for a Dell Dimension E510
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on May 21, 2016

I replaced an ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro with this card. I basically wanted to improve my desktop Aero and 3D business graphics Windows Experience Index performance subscores. The GT 730 did just that. Both the Aero and 3D business graphics subscores jumped from 3.9 and 5.4 to a whopping 6.9. I'm not into gaming so I wasn't interested in gaming performance. I just wanted better overall graphics performance when performing everyday tasks, such as surfing the Internet, handling email, and creating and editing Microsoft Office documents, etc.

I downloaded and installed the latest drivers from nVidia's web site. I only installed the graphics and audio drivers. I did not install the GeForce Experience, which is basically nothing more than a system tray process that alerts you when new drivers are available. I also did not install any of the 3D software, such as 3D Vision, nor did I install the PhysX software. I don't plan on updating the drivers frequently nor am I at all interested in playing games so I simply did not need all of these extras installed.

Make no mistake that the particular card that I purchased is NOT a single slot card. It has a large heat sink plus a fan, which makes the card 1.56 inches wide according to nVidia's specifications. Notice how wide the card is in the included photo. Fortunately, the card is installed in the innermost PCI-Express x16 slot so the only thing being obstructed is empty space. However, should I ever need to remove the CPU's heat sink I will very likely need to remove the video card since it appears that the card is in the way of the heat sink.

Overall I am very pleased with the card. I do not hear the card's fan at all and I'm thrilled with the performance improvements based on the Windows Experience Index subscores. The new card is an excellent addition to my Dell Dimension E510 over the older ATI Radeon card. I particularly like that the card I chose has VGA, DVI, and HDMI outputs. I would highly recommend the GT 730 as a replacement for any onboard video processor or as an upgrade from an older video card. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very pleased- my son can now play all the online games he's been wanting to play
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on July 9, 2015

I had ran the system scanner tool at Crucial memory's website to figure out what form card was needed for my son's computer. It told me he needed the 64 bit PCI Express x16. If you aren't sure if this card will fit or not, you might try that to see. It made it pretty easy for me.

This was very easy to install, it fit well it its slot without being too big or bulky, and it came with a CD with all the drivers needed.
Upon installation into an older machine running Windows 7.0, it worked right away. Once the video drivers were loaded, and the direct X, it took my son's computers performance rating from a 3.0 to a 7.0 on graphics, and increased his overall computer "User Experience" Performance a good bit.
There were several online games on STEAM that he really had been wanting to play, but couldn't, and as soon as the card was installed with all drivers, he was able to play them. Before he could play a few games, now he can play everything he wants there. (He likes multi-player role playing games on the PC.)
Graphics are smooth, good looking, with no lag or delays.
It came with software that lets you tweak the settings on the card, including overclocking it, but I didn't install those. Everything was fine with just the driver and the direct x installation.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best for the money!
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on March 14, 2015

There is no doubt this card is the best for the money, if you want to save some $$$ but need a decent card this one is the right one for you.

PROs:

+Happily playing games at medium-high graphics settings.
+Very quiet fan. Almost silent!
+Stays cool.
+Drivers installed easy on Windows 7.
+Perfect compatibility with Linux (Debian Testing, Binary driver and Nvidia kernel).

CONs:

-Didn't cost $500.
-Doesn't play EVERY game in super high graphics settings.
-Doesn't sound like a really sweet helicopter taking off from somewhere inside my computer case.

----------------------------------------

This went in a new build for a customer who wanted a Steambox at the lowest possible price without sacrificing capability. All purchased on Amazon.

Lenovo ThinkServer TS140 70A4000HUX i3-4130 3.4GHz (Comes with 4GB or RAM) [4/5]
WD Blue 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 7200rpm Internal Hard Drive [5/5]
EVGA GeForce GT 730 2GB GDDR5 64bit DVI/HDMI/VGA Low Profile Graphics Card [5/5]
iClever® IC-RF01 2.4G Ultra Mini Wireless Keyboard with Mouse Touchpad [5/5]
Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Controller for Windows
AmazonBasics High-Speed HDMI Cable - 6.5 Feet

The build went very smoothly.
Installed Windows 7 and the Nvidia driver via the included CD that came with the graphics card, had to find the Intel network driver online for windows as it was not included with the Lenovo ThinkServer.
Then installed Linux, the Linux binary Nvidia driver and Nvidia kernel from the Debian repositories. Network worked out of the box as expected on Linux.

At this point both Windows and Linux where ready for use.

I personally tested one game using Steam on Linux.

Metro: Last Light Redux worked great, no lag at all on the second to highest graphic setting.

To note the Lenovo ThinkServer does NOT come with an operating system, none installed, no key included or CD for windows (My customer already had a copy of Windows 7). It does come with a server systems installer helper, though i did not try using it.

Excellent graphics card for my HP s3700y Slimline PC!! Easy installation after removing standard bracket on the card and replacing it with the supplied "low profile" bracket. Windows Vista OS recognized the card and installed the basic drivers to get it up and running. The Drivers and software on the installation disc installed without a hitch. I did try to update the drivers online but for some reason that kept failing so I am using the drivers provided on the disc and it works great! Mostly what I was interested in was the HDMI output on this card to connect to my Samsung 46 inch LED LCD television and after a few setting adjustments through the NVIDIA GeForce supplied software and control panel I have been extremely happy. My online video viewing is now a pleasure as well as some web based video games and all programs run faster, display sharper and respond almost instantly which were all issues before the new card was installed.
Before installing this card I upgraded my power supply for the HP Slimline to 360watts. The original power supply was only 160watts and no where near powerful enough to run the EVGA GeForce card. So after installing this card and a more powerful power supply I increased the heat load inside the small Slimline computer case quite a bit to the point where I needed to install an extra cooling fan. The other issue was the width of the video card with the fan was too wide to allow the dial up modem card to remain so out it went, not needed anyway. I am very pleased how this card has enhanced my computing experience!!
