It's hard to go back to regular Catan after this version because it feels too simple compared to C&K.
The game goes much deeper with much more comprehensive strategy involved. So if you can barely stomach the strategy and scheming involved in regular Catan, this probably isn't for you.
Games can get extremely cutthroat. If you thought the classic resource trade player to monopoly all of their cards after was too cruel in vanilla Catan then don't buy this game because you can do way nastier stuff to people. Swapping die rolls on resource tiles, deactivating knights so your enemies lose their cities to the barbarians, stealing progress cards, and more!
5 Stars, regular Catan just doesn't cut it after this.

This is not a standalone game. You need the base set of Catan in order to play this game. Just be aware of what you're buying :)
This expansion adds a new level of strategy to Catan. If you and your opponents do not work together, the Barbarians can ransack your towns and set you all back. Or in the right conditions you can hold the power to purposefully allow the barbarians to wreak havoc on your opponents while you remain protected.
The progress cards are much more interesting in this version and give you unique abilities and fun cards to play against your opponents. There's some small rules changes to the game, but it is now our preferred way to play, we never play the base set alone anymore.
This can make your games go much longer, especially while everyone learns the differences. And if the Barbarians attack and set everyone back, that can also drag things out. But the games are much more engaging and entertaining, the time will fly by!

The expansion of Cities and Knights for Catan makes the game more strategic and challenging. I was rather hesitate about buying this expansion due to the cost but I am glad I made the purchase. This expansion adds at least another hour to the game.
I like the addition of the commodity cards that allow a player to add improvements to their cities. These improvements will allow players more chance to receive progress cards. Also if a player builds the thirds improvement for one of their cities (Flip Chart), there are bonuses that you can use throughout the game.
The use of knights is rather unique and important in the game. The knights are necessary to avoid the barbarians from destroying cities on the board. Knights can also be used to block other players from expanding. To use a knight, a player must pay one grain to activate it.
With this expansion, you can build cities walls. For every city wall a player builds, a player may hold an additional two cards when the thief strikes.

Changes the style of gameplay much more thoroughly than I would have thought possible. Really extnded the life and interest of the game especially for just two players. Do wish the knights could have been pre-labelled, as its hard to center them.

This expansion is great for people who want a change from the regular game. It changes up the rules just enough to be a bit more challenging without ruining it or getting too confusing. It can be used with the seafarers expansion which is nice. If you are also purchasing the Cities and Knights extension (5-6 players) you also need the original game extension, but it makes sense lol. The first time we played it took about 3 hours to totally figure it out but the next time was about an hour.
The box we received was missing a city wall piece, which hasn't really been needed yet (it's not a critical piece) but I'm sure it will be needed eventually. I sent a request a few days ago and haven't heard back yet.

I absolutely love this expansion to the game. It creates so much more to do and allows the players to really come up with a strategy to win. This version requires that you pay close attention to what is going on, otherwise you will miss important things. Great job with this expansion!

This is for one of my sons, he has had the game for a while and he wanted to up grade it with this addition so I got it fo him and his wife for Christmas Iam sure that they will get a lot of pleasure from it.Thank you for the Awesome service and product.

I have became a huge fan in Settlers of Catan, and wanted to add to the experience. I use this expansion and the Seafarers expansion together, and it adds so much depth to the game. I cannot wait to get the other expansions to maximize the fun!

We absolutely love this game. I bought it for the family back in December and they still play it regularly 4 months later. I recently bought two expansions backs. Seriously the best board game investment and worth every penny. I love all the different scenarios and setups you can use so that the game is always new, different and doesn't get old.
