I've owned so many watches and smart bands/fitness bands, I can definitely give a detailed idea of what makes the Pebble watches shine vs the competition. Let me get this out of the way...if battery life is important and you don't want to be charging every day or two, this is your watch. Other watches have good battery life (like the Martian Notifier I owned), but they don't have near the functions/features/capabilities of this watch. This is such a joy to own because it "just works" and you aren't always charging it. I've never had a notification from email/text/phone call not come through in the few weeks that I've owned it. I love Android phones and I've played with Android Wear watches, but I'm astonished at how well the Pebble OS just does everything I need it without feeling like a smart phone on my arm. Other people have said it, but this watch truly is an extension of your phone.

I was in the camp that saw smart watches as a useless product. But as a Realtor, I get a ton of calls and notifications all day. I found the vibration on my Note 4 wasn't strong enough in my pocket and I would always miss calls. Plus, I'm pulling out my phone for every buzz I do feel. This watch has completely changed my life. I probably reach for my phone 75% less because I can dismiss notifications straight from the watch. I can also shoot back a text or email directly from the watch through voice dictation. The accuracy of the voice text is amazing. 99% of the time, it perfectly picks up what I say. It seems better than Google Now or Dragon Dictation on my phone. Super impressed. Let's move on to the pros and cons list.

PROS:
Battery Life - Unparalleled for what the watch actually does. I get a TON of notifications. I could probably get 4 days. Most people would get almost a week.

Comfort - The watch band is the most comfortable of any smart watch I owned. I eventually opted to go with a dressier mesh band because of my daily attire, but if the silicone black band is what you like, this is the most comfortable. Any 22mm band works, which is really nice for most of these watches.

Size - I have average size lower arms, and this watch is a great medium size. It would be fine for a male or female. If you love huge face watches, you might find this a TAD small.

Buttons - I like the butttons. Some people may find this to be a con, but I don't. Buttons always work. Touch screen sometimes doesn't. These screens are pretty small for a touch screen too. I think the buttons are faster.

Pebble Health - They are constantly updating it to make it better and closer to a fitness app. Right now, it still lacks some functionality like adding workouts. Apparently it's coming soon, but the problem is the calorie count will never reflect any type of weighlifting or HIIT style workout because it can't be manually added on the watch or in the app. It's not like anybody should be taking these watch's calorie burn estimates as truthful anyway, but not being able to account for workouts makes it even more off. The pedometer function of the Pebble Time is good. It tends to stay on the lower side for step count compared to others I've worn at the same time (MS Band 2, Garmin Vivosmart HR, Zenwatch 2, Fitbit Blaze). The Pebble Time honestly seemed more accurate than almost any other one, but this is still a notification watch first and foremost.

CONS:

Screen (compared to Android Wear/Apple Watch) - The reason you get that battery life is because of the very low color E-Paper screen. It's sorta monochrome looking..sorta dull. It's really one of those things you have to wear for a few days to see if it bothers you. We are so used to amazing LCD screens on all our devices, the Pebble Time just seems...underwhelming. To me, the screen helps make it feel like an accessory or extension of the phone compared to just another smaller phone on my arm. The first few hours were weird, but I quickly learned to appreciate it. It's also visible in the sun compared to normal LCD watches too.

Bezel - I don't know why the bezel needs to be so big on these watches. They could have made the screen much bigger in the same size. This is a problem with a lot of smartwatches. I just don't get it. Wasted space.

Looks - It's an average looking watch at best. It sorta looks like a toy, depending on the band. You could pull it off in a professional environment, especially with a mesh or link band. But..it looks much more at home in the gym. The just announced Pebble Time 2 is all steel and should be a nicer looking watch. However that won't be out until almost Christmas '16 and it will cost double what this Pebble Time is going for in May.

Conclusion: Overall, I love this watch. The positives far outweigh the negatives. Pebble is always working on updates and this watch will get updated with the new OS that will ship with the Pebble Time 2. A few tweaks could make it even more outstanding. The development community is active and new apps are coming out for Pebble every day. For about a hundred bucks, this watch is a bargain. If I missed something, I will add it in the review as I remember. If you have any questions about this watch or any others, please let know in the comments. If I've helped you with my review, I would REALLY appreciate if you clicked the "helpful" button. Good luck with your smart watch search!

CRITICAL WARNING: AS OF DEC 7, 2016, PEBBLE HAS CLOSED THEIR BUSINESS. This is not a fake comment. PLEASE go to their website to confirm for yourself. I have owned my pebble Time for a year and LOVE it (original review was 5 stars). I think it is the BEST smartwatch for the money which works for both Apple and Android phones. Sadly, ALL of the different versions of these pebble watches are discontinued and while they may function properly for the time being, there is no word yet (from pebble themselves), on how long that functionality will continue.

[...]. I will also be contacting Amazon to make sure they are aware of this as well. Thank You.

I wanted to love this watch, but it hasn't met expectations. At the beginning of August, 3 months after purchase, my Pebble started to act flaky. It would stop receiving alerts from any program and would constantly disconnect from the Bluetooth. On August 5th I started working with Pebble support with no success. Support keeps telling me to perform the same steps over and over:
1) Send them a sample notification from the Pebble app along with logs
2) Updated the Pebble App
3) Change my settings of my battery to NOT be battery optimized for Pebble (by the way this makes your battery drain like crazy)
4) Reset my Pebble
5) Verify permissions are correct
6) Perform a clean slate reset

I have told Pebble Support that I have done all of the above items multiple times (I did change Pebble back to be battery optimized because I would go through my phone battery 3-4 times per day). They still insisted that I continue to work with them to solve the issue (keep sending logs, etc.). I refused, telling them that nothing had worked and I already had ~12 email exchanges with them. Up to this point I had wasted a good 3 or 4 hours of my time completing the suggestions above, emailing them, etc. with no success. Therefore, I asked if I could get a new watch or a refund (no other devices that connect to my Bluetooth has issues so I figured it was a product issue). This is a direct response I pulled from one of their emails:

"Generally this is a software issue that can be resolved with some troubleshooting. This issue is usually because the phone is not pushing the notifications to the watch, usually because of either permissions or bluetooth connection, and since you have been able to receive notifications a replacement watch would most likely not resolve the issue. We also would not be able to provide a refund as the watch was not purchased from pebble.com"

So, warning! I would stay away from this watch unless you like sending emails for support and wait up to 3 days for responses or if you like buying something that the company doesn't back (You have to buy this watch directly from them or you can't be refunded if there is an issue). Now, all I have is a not-so-smart watch.

I have had my white Pebble Time smartwatch for over a month now, so I feel that I have gotten to know it rather intimately by this time. It's my constant companion. Here we go...

I love how it looks. I think that it's super cute, and you can customize it for free with all of the different watch faces. I am going to be totally honest with you here, at the threat of appearing as a "spoiled housewife" - the MAIN reason that I got this Pebble Time is...I saw a gif of someone that had this watch that had the Super Mario watch face. Yes. I bought this watch so I could have the Super Mario watch face. I admit it. And we're very happy together.

Other than watch faces, if you're willing to spend a little money you can get removable skins for the bezel. I personally bought a "galaxy" themed skin, it's shades of blue, purple, and black. It does a great job of protecting the bezel from scratches and bumps as well as customizing the watch and making it pretty. Of course, you can also get different watch bands. And here is one reason why this Pebble Time gets 4 stars instead of 5 from me. I have found it difficult to find the correct size replacement watch bands that I like. You need a 22mm replacement watch band, and it's easy to find one in a regular color like black or brown, but I really want one in purple or gray to go nicely with my Pebble Time watch skin. The FitBit Blaze has a 23mm watch band, and they have a lot of selections, but let me tell you...You CANNOT just cram it onto the Pebble Time. That 1mm makes a difference. I tried 2 different FitBit Blaze bands just to be sure. They don't fit. No matter how hard you try.

Speaking of accessories, I also got one of the "military grade" screen covers, and so far so good, it's protecting my Pebble Time as it should, and it was easy to apply. I highly advise getting a screen cover.

The Pebble Time is a little dim. It's FINE, but this is another reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5. It's serviceable and OK, but I would really like it if it was brighter. However, since the face uses e-ink I don't think that it's possible to make it any brighter. But hey, who knows what they might come out with for the next generation of the Pebble Time?

Lastly, as a woman, a lot of the time I keep my phone in my purse. I was _constantly_ missing texts, no matter how loud I out my notifications. I never miss a text when I'm wearing my Pebble Time because it vibrates, and it's very noticeable. Not in a bad annoying way - in a good way.

That's about it. The Pebble Time was a great purchase. It could be improved in a few different areas, but for now this is definitely my smartwatch of choice. And hey, I'm still loving the Super Mario watch face.

I hope that you found my review helpful. Thanks for reading.

I have been using my Pebble Time for about 3 weeks and so far I am very pleased with it and have only had a couple minor issues. In contrary to what some others are posting this watch seems to be pretty darn robust, I have been wearing it daily to work (I am an electrician) and have crawled through attic spaces, gotten it covered in sheetrock dust cutting in boxes, gotten it wet and it has gotten quite dirty from day to day and other than a couple very small minor scuffs it has maintained its finish. I did have a couple issues where it would have to be resynced via bluetooth to my iPhone after a Pebble firmware update and the iPhone app stopped showing daily activity even though the sleep activity still worked in the app until I updated the iPhone app. Bluetooth range is good, backlight is strong and the screen is super easy to read in sunlight. The silicone watch band gets sticky if you sweat but I have had no adverse reactions to the band. My only gripe would be that the charging cable will sometimes have a hard time connecting if the recessed power pads on the watch get dirty, I've had to use q-tip swabs to clean the charging pads on the watch 3 times so far. The battery life is only about 3 days maximum when connected to bluetooth but when in airplane mode for extended periods the battery life will get a big boost. I highly recommend putting watch into aircraft mode when if wearing it to track sleep patterns as my phone is 150' away in another room at night when I would roll over onto the watch it would lose bluetooth connection and the disconnection notification (vibration) would wake me up!

Had it about a week, now. I have small wrists/hands for the average man and it's very comfortable. I use it for an alarm as well as being in IT and needing to receive texts all night. No phone in the room, the watch vibrates and wakes me; I can read texts, catch phone calls, and get up all without waking my wife. We ordered one for her too; the sleep schedule already let us know exactly how bad sleep I get, so we're going to use them to get better rest. The e-paper display works great and the backlight is just right for reading in a black room at night.

Edit: So, 5 weeks. After the 3rd time it stopped receiving texts from SOME of my contacts, and did not receive them again until after I reset the phone to default (and reinstalled all the apps and settings), I contacted tech support. They immediately transferred me to "Second tier". 3 weeks I emailed them, every 2 or 3 days. "Is someone going to reply?" Last night I learned Fitbit bought out PART of Pebble. They canned Pebble tech support, there IS NO MORE PEBBLE SUPPORT. Closed. And that startup they did this year? Yeah, anyone waiting for a watch will have to keep waiting, they're not sending them.

STATUS: RETURNED.

Ok, so I've had an Moto 360 prior to the Pebble. I really like the Android wear capabilities and functionality except for one huge glaring issue... BATTERY. A watch that can't show me the time whenever I glance at it and make it to the end of the day without the need for charging just isn't going to cut it for me. So I got the Pebble Time due to the reasonable price and good reviews.

I have to say, I'm really liking this watch. The time between charges is in days (even with the second hand on my watch face turned on), which is fantastic. The interface works well, though admittedly I'd prefer a touchscreen over buttons, but it works. I was worried the smallish screen size would bug me, but it really hasn't. Still would like a larger, so might consider the new Pebble Time that will be released later this year. But it will be a good bit more expensive than this one, and I didn't want to wait.

Also would like a little more resolution to the screen, but I love that I can just glance at the watch at any time and clearly read it. That seems like such a small thing, but coming from the Moto 360, its really a big deal.

Interestingly I'm actually really liking the band that comes with it. With it being a rubber (plastic?) band, I felt like it would be cheap and annoying, so had planned to buy a metal band like I prefer. But it actually feels very comfortable and soft, and feels much more premium than I expected. Still planning on buying a metal band at some point, but the one that comes with it is satisfying me just fine until I do.

Fitness and sleep tracking seems to work just fine. I don't really actively use them in any kind of routine, but it is nice to be able to see my step count and how long I slept. Unnecessary bonus for me, but if it is important to you I think you will be satisfied.

I'm not going to say this is a perfect watch. However, I have to say at this point that this is the closest to what I need on a smart watch.

The Pebble Time smart watch is an excellent, sleek gadget that does exactly what it was intended to do. This is the type of smart watch that knows what it is (and what it isn’t) and it greatly succeeds in filling that role. Because of that, I’m giving the Pebble Time five stars.

This watch is best suited for those who want a quick and discreet way to check one’s smart phone notifications. Perhaps you find it cumbersome to pull your phone out of your pocket to see who is calling while you’re driving, or maybe you just don’t want to interrupt your co-worker’s riveting story about his cat videos going viral. Whatever your case may be, sometimes it’s not appropriate to lug your phone out of your pocket every time you get a notification. This is where the Pebble Time comes to your rescue. One quick glance and you can see a fairly comprehensive overview of what your phone was trying to notify you about.

To highlight a few of its most useful features, I’d like to start off with the vibrating function. It seems like a simple feature and one that you may take for granted, but you will almost never miss a phone call or a text with the Pebble Time on your wrist. Next, the battery life is excellent for an always connected smart device. While it may not get the alleged 7 days of usage on one charge, the battery does last a respectable 4 days between charges. This is provided for by its non-LED, color e-ink display. The display is “always on” though there is a short timed backlight that can be activated with the flick of your wrist or the push of a button.

Finally, a word on the Pebble Time’s appearance; this watch looks great. Unlike its predecessors, this watch is neither big nor bulky. It sits well on the wrist and it looks as stylish (if not more) than most smart watches on the market. If you’re looking for a stylish-looking smart watch that alerts you to notifications from your phone at a fraction of the price of an Apple Watch, then this will fit the bill.

I had wanted to wait a few days before I wrote a review to get my full opinion on the watch, here's what I've experienced with it so far.
- Accurately monitors my sleep which I find very useful
- Counts my steps and calories throughout my busy day
- The charge lasts a long time which I am a big fan of
- I can change the watch face often which is amazing since I can never make up my mind
- The Bluetooth disconnects if you're at least 4 rooms over
- I don't use the future events option but I could see it being useful
- Cute time wasting games to put on
- I have used the respond to text options hundreds of times

Most of these things are already described but these are what I appreciate about it. This is probably one of the best products I have bought in my life so far. During school I like to use it since i'm constantly checking the time and pulling my phone out to check the time or check my texts not only is a time waster but in class could get me in trouble. I have yet to see the water proof in action, but I wouldn't be surprised if there is a spill in the future.

I have had this watch for over a month now and love it!
pros:
- I really like the battery life, after 7 days it's still showing 30% battery.
- There are tons of cool and fun watch faces available.
- I don't use any ringtones/vibrate on my phone and don't miss calls or texts hardly anymore.
- You can make it as complicated or simple as you want, I.E. you don't have to fool with it, or "set it and forget it" for the most part.
- It costs roughly the same as a nice digital watch.
- Compatible with existing watch bands.
- Brilliant, clean interface.
- Since its (relatively) inexpensive i'm not super worried about it, I wear it all the time everyday. It seems to be holding up well so far, I work with my hands so its exposed to a bunch of potential wear.
- Good experience with customer support
- Its very light weight
- Did I mention it was cheap? One big reason for me waiting to get a smartwatch was cost, pebble removed that barrier here so I'm very happy.

cons (sorta):
- The original purchased watch had a bezel creaking issue and I had thought I scratched it. I originally contacted pebble about getting it repaired or replaced at my expense, but they were very interested in the bezel creaking that I had and sent me a replacement quickly which I was not expecting. The replacement came with all accessories and they also said for me to keep everything except for the watch itself. Now I have a spare everything for the watch!
- Aluminum rubs off on the bezel appearing to be a scratch. An eraser doesn't seem to remove it, but after a few weeks it wears off eventually.
- A few minor software niggles such as having to keep the app running in the background all the time for it to stay connected and having to pair the watch as a time round to get it to pair properly (iOS). These things well documented however, but its still takes away from the quite polished interface and ease of use.
- An apple problem of not allowing pebble to access iMessage on my phone (also sucks that theres no JB available right now which would make this a non-issue) and pebble not supporting sprint just yet for text replies (hopefully will and/or a JB will drop for 9.3.2+).

I chose the pebble time for many reasons, one thats not so common is the fact that I have small wrists and the original pebble looks like a cellphone strapped to my wrist. The time fits very well and isn't bulky. I also wanted an extension of my phone, not another platform/computer to deal with in addition to my phone and computer. It's super easy and fast to setup and configure, which makes it more like an appliance if thats what you want (I do). I put it on when I wake up and don't have to ever fool with it if I don't want to except for charging once a week and the occasional firmware update, brilliant.
