So I spent quite a bit of time evaluating a couple different "wearable devices": (1) The black stainless steel Apple Watch, (2) The Pebble Time, and now finally (3) the Pebble Time Steel. Given the fact that my wife works for Apple, I of course had to try out the latest and greatest watch, figuring that I'd try "the best watch" available for an iPhone 6. After wearing it for a month, I got a feel for what I wanted in a wearable device in regards to my lifestyle. Unfortunately for Apple, it was not with the Apple Watch.

Here is what was missing for me:
- Battery life
- The use of the accelerometer to turn on/off the display actually was buggy for how I used it
- Officially not waterproof...unofficially it is!
- It was heavy with the metal band

So I ended up switching it to the Pebble Time and now the Pebble Time Steel. I've gotta say that the Pebble shined after our 1-week family trip to Hawaii. Even my wife who uses an Apple Watch had to give credit to the following:
- It lasted an entire week with only a short 1-hour charge towards the end
- Snorkeling and swimming in the ocean
- rough-housing in the pool
- obvious continuous notifications
- and daily use to check the weather

To summarize here are the pro's and con's based on my experience with the 3-watches

Pro's
====
- The Pebble Time lasts about 4 days of "normal" use. The Pebble Time Steel seems to last 5+ days with similar usage
- Always on display
- Decent workout tracking
- Great sleep tracking since I never really take off my watch. I prefer the Misfit app for this.
- Timeline view is awesome to see events
- Great ESPN app that sends me reminders of game times as well as the final scores after the game ends
- Works with standard 22mm watch bands
- Officially waterproof unlike Apple Watch
- Looks great and still very light on the wrist

Con's
====
- Doesn't offer as many integrations with Apple products, but that's because of Apple
- Most apps seem very gimicky and childish
- No heart rate monitoring
- Workout tracking isn't as accurate or full-featured as like an actual workout band (e.g. fitbit) or the Apple Watch
- Occasional issues connecting with bluetooth
- watch faces aren't as pretty or functional as an Apple watch
- cannot reply to txt's or really anything beyond receiving a notification message
- No integration with Siri or voice commands
- companion apps are a joke!

So is this the perfect smart watch...absolutely not. But anyone that is in technology industry should know that there are pro's and con's to every technical decision. I think every watch available out there was designed to be the best watch for their customer base; what will be interesting is which brands and wearable devices will consumers gravitate towards. My feeling is that Apple Watch will continue to be successful, but I surely hope that Pebble continues to remain relevant over the years.

I love my Pebble Time Steel! I originally purchased a regular Pebble Steel but quickly realized that it's really annoying to receive the notifications and not be able to reply to them. I purchased the Pebble Time Steel to solve that problem and haven't regretted the purchase yet.

Features I use most:
- Voice Reply: My biggest gripe was not being able to reply on the Pebble Steel. Pebble has now partnered with AT&T so that iPhone users on the carrier can use the reply functionality to reply to texts. Previously, only Android users could do this since Apple's iOS software does not allow Pebble access to send messages. This workaround through AT&T is a huge win for qualified users (AT&T post paid accounts) and it sounds like Pebble is working with other carriers to allow them similar functionality. I now have the ability to receive a text message on my watch, speak a voice reply, and it gets translated to text for me to review before sending. The voice translation using the Nuance API so the voice-to-text conversion is very accurate.

- Music Control: I love being able to play Pandora, Spotify, podcasts, etc. on bluetooth speakers (connected to my phone) while doing things around the house. If I want to adjust the volume, pause, or skip tracks I can do it all directly from the built in Music app. You can also view the song and artist name directly on your watch which is great for streaming services that may play music you haven't heard of before. Pandora also has their own app that let's you thumbs up/down songs.

- Uber: While it may sounds like a gimmick to request an Uber from your watch when you can just do it from your phone, walking around with your phone out makes you more of a target to getting robbed in most cities. The more you can control from your watch, the less you have to take out your phone and expose yourself to theft.

- Navigation: To go along with the safety aspect of Uber that I mentioned, if I'm walking around a city that I'm not too familiar with, I like the ability to get directions on my wrist and not have to take out my phone. There are several navigation apps that will provide on-screen maps or navigation instructions but I generally use Google Maps. There isn't a native app for this but if you just set your destination on your phone and minimize the app, the app will notify you when you are approaching your turn (assuming you have notifications turned on) and you will receive that notification directly on the watch. No need to launch any special app that will drain your watch battery, just use what you already have on your phone.

- Biking: I'm lumping a few benefits here together because of how well it works for me. If i'm biking around the city, I don't want to pull out my phone to make sure I didn't miss my turn but using the navigations aspect I mentioned above, I receive a notification on my wrist when I'm approaching my turn. I can also control the bluetooth speaker I bring with me when I ride instead of fumbling around with my phone. There's even a bike sharing app that uses your phone's GPS to locate the closest bike sharing station in most major cities.

- Running: RunKeeper and iSmoothRun both have Pebble apps that display your stats directly on your watch. I use iSmoothRun (which syncs with Strava) and love the customizability of it. The app lets you configure up to three stats (per page) on the screen and you have full control of what data you want displayed and in what order. Strava does not have a Pebble app that will work for iOS users yet (I believe there is an Android one) but the iSmoothRun integrates seamlessly with Strava.

- Weather: Quickly check the weather from your wrist including upcoming forecasts. There are even watchfaces that include this on the main screen.

- Watchface customization: There are thousands of watchfaces in the Pebble app store which allows for so much customization. If you don't find one you like, there are iOS apps that allow you to easily create one, or you can quickly learn to program your own using Pebble's SDK.

- Quick release watchbands: The Pebble Time Steel uses standard 22mm watch bands which gives you the ability to add just about any band you want to the Pebble. The quick release feature of the band that comes with it is great for swapping bands for different occasions. I typically wear the Egeek Watch Band/Strap for Pebble Time Smartwatch Band Replacement Accessories with Metal Clasps Watch Strap/Wristband Silicone band (pictured) for every day use and the leather band that comes with the watch for nicer occasions. The bands have quick release pins which allow me to swap bands in only a few seconds.

Considerations:
- The watch is very durable; however you need to keep in mind that your watch will get banged around a lot more than your phone would. I purchased the ArmorSuit MilitaryShield - Pebble Time Steel Screen Protector [2-Pack] Anti-Bubble and Extreme Clarity HD Shield with Lifetime Replacements screen cover to protect the glass portion of the screen. There are also wraps that cover the surrounding metal but I don't feel that is necessary.

- Apple iPhone users will not have as much flexibility and control as Android users do. This has nothing to do with the Pebble software, it is because Apple restricts this type of control from third-party developers. So you will not be able to trigger Siri (without jailbreaking your phone) or reply to messages (unless you are an AT&T post-paid customer). I still believe the watch is worth considering if you find a good deal on it but you may want to consider the entry-level Apple Watch instead. I don't plan on upgrading to the Apple Watch any time soon because I think there is still a lot of functionality that they need to add in order to justify the price.

- The color screen is very basic so don't expect to be viewing pictures on it. The screen uses epaper technology so that you can have incredible battery life when compared to the competitors. I feel like this tradeoff is worth it, especially when outside because you can read the Pebble very clearly without the need for a backlight. You may read that the colors appear washed out and this is why. If you want something with bright, brilliant colors you should look elsewhere but you will sacrifice battery life for it. If you are a Pebble OG or Pebble Steel user considering the Time line of products, the black and white contrast does seem better on the original devices than on the Time models but it is still worth the upgrade in my opinion.

I'll add more as I think of it...

I avoided buying this watch for the longest time. I just couldn't bring myself to buy a watch with so little color depth and limited app functionality so I skipped the Pebble and bought an Android Wear watch first (Moto 360 G1). I patted myself on the back for getting such a pretty and stylish smartwatch. But after about a year I realized I didn't use any of the "cool" features that set Android Wear watches apart from the Pebble. What's more I was constantly frustrated by the limited battery life, limited touch screen UI and frustratingly convoluted Android Wear crap. A charge usually lasted a day if I turned off enough battery eating features. If I didn't get the watch on the charger before I went to bed, the watch was pretty much useless the next day.

So when I heard Pebble was closing up shop and will no longer product their watches I jumped on one. I'm glad I did. It's nice looking. It's does everything I want it to do. The battery lasts almost a week. So instead of making sure I get it on the charger every night I can check the battery status every couple days. "Still have 40%? Eh, I'll charge it in a couple days." The interface doesn't get in it's own way like an Android Wear touch screen. Sometimes simple is better. And in this case simpler is definitely better in a resounding way.

My only regret is I didn't buy it sooner.

This is one of the better smartwatches I've tried. The battery life is great for a smartwatch. The problem with the black one Pebble Time Steel for me is that while it looks pretty good at first, the coating on it scratches very easily. I rubbed it against the door ever so slightly and the coating came off, making it an eyesore every time I look at it :( Had I thought about this, I would have bought the stainless steel/silver one...
Otherwise, there's a lot to like about the Pebble Time Steel.
• It has a great battery life
• It looks nice
• It is actually water resistant
• It is os independent (it works with iOS and Android)

A great smartwatch. Its built well, looks nice, reads notifications and has some really fun watch faces. Its also waterproof and has long battery life. What more do you need in a watch? It has the neat Timeline feature built in to help manage your day. I have other smartwatches that are nice such as LG Urbane. It looks great and takes advantage of other features that this one doesn't have but as a daily driver I will be wearing this one. I'm happy so far with this watch.
Update: I've added another pic with the truffol steel black band installed

I have the classic pebble and have been looking at getting one of the newer offerings. This was it until I saw that the pebble 2 was coming out with a bigger screen. It is just basically a more advanced version of this from what I can tell and I decided it would be worth the wait. Well as we all know pebble tanked and that watch will probably never see the light of day. If you still want a pebble just get this and buy a third party extended warranty as pebble doesn't exist to honor their warranty anymore. Oh, and one of my major concerns was firmware updating. I got this watch on the 10th of December and it was out of date. I had no problems updating it to 4.3.

For the guy or gal that likes to be in control and do what they want with their tech there really is no other great choices out there. I have seen watches like the Samsung gear S3 listed as competitors but at twice the price and with a pathetic battery I don't think so.... If you have any questions I might be able to answer please feel free to ask them below. I bought this for 140 and then the price bumped to 150 the next day. I guess they thought no one would want one. I am anxiously looking forward to whether or not Fitbit will make an awesome wearable with their new acquisition!

Really like this watch so far. I am using it to pair with an Android for running (displays the readout from Runtastic or other running apps) and an iPhone for work to get calendar notifications and texts. It goes back and forth between them as long as I turn off the bluetooth on one phone. If both are in the vicinity and both have bluetooth on it sometimes connects to both.

Battery life seems a little low but maybe it's because I'm trying out so many apps and watchfaces and using it for running also. Charges very quickly though, so no concerns about battery, just not getting 5 - 7 days but more like 3 - 4.

Have had a few issues with it resetting and requiring rebooting and pairing again with the bluetooth on the iPhone, no issues on the Android so I expect the issue is with iOS and that the bugs will get worked out. Those issues are keeping it from getting 5 stars. Once it stays stable for a while, it will get 5 stars.

I absolutely love this watch, I have had it for over a week now.
The watch has an amazing battery life that usually lasts me about 4 to 5 days, while I play games on it from time to time and get quite a few notifications each day. The watch connects to your phone/device allowing acces to calendar and what apps you get notifications from.
The AppStore has a huge selection of watch faces and apps.
Pros:
Long battery life
Almost fully customizable (check out D Brand)
Has full access to calendar and notifications
Huge AppStore with a bunch of options
Cons:
The leather band it comes with stains with water
The screen gets scratched without a protecter
Summary: The watch is amazing in so many ways with customization, translating apps, colorful display, and a few games.
You can also use developer mode to make your own faces and apps. Check out : Implode, Pug time, pokedex Kanto, and7-minute+.

As a previous owner of a Pebble Classic, I wanted another smartwatch when the screen on my Classic started getting lines in the image. I tried a Huawei smartwatch, which was Android based. While it was a beautiful watch with a fantastic screen, there were so many little things about it that were different from the Pebble that I ended up returning it. Some examples: 1) most notifications can be removed one of two ways, by swiping across the screen with your finger or flipping your wrist quickly. While this might seem easy enough, if you have large fingers like I do, sometimes it takes two or three swipes to clear the screen. Flipping your wrist is unnatural and makes you look like you have a twitch. Many times you have to do it a couple of times. On the Pebble, you just push a button. It is quick and simple and works every time. 2) Battery life is terrible compared to the Pebble. My Classic got 5 days of use, the Pebble Time gets 7 days of use and the Huawei got 1 day of use. 3) I wear my watch to be able to tell time and keep track of appointments, and both watches did that. The Pebble just does it better. My screen on the Pebble is always on and a quick wrist flip lights it up for use at night. The Huawei fades out unless you want to kill your battery right away, so the ability to just glance at your watch for the time is lost.
Notifications on the Pebble are just as complete as the Android based watches and give me just as much information. I use an app called Canvas to allow me to see the time, my next appointment and local weather (see picture) . My Pebble Time came with a tan leather band, which is very comfortable, but quickly stained and was looking ugly. I replaced it with a 22mm Magnetic Milanese Loop Stainless Steel Magnet Closure Lock Band (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01A1FASKK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ), which is the most comfortable band I have ever owned.
If you want a watch that just works, without messing around with it all the time, the Pebble Time is the one to get. If you want a watch for more jewelry type use, then maybe and Android or IOS based watch is better for you.

This is exactly what I wanted. I have been using an original Pebble watch for years now, and honestly I was discouraged from buying more Pebble products due to my underwhelming experience. The original was incredibly buggy - buggy Bluetooth, buggy screen, clunky interface, unattractive design. Customer support was consistently horrible. Yet, somehow I grew accustomed to getting my notifications on my watch - when that actually worked. As an ER doctor it is important to be able to look at notifications without hauling out my phone in front of patients. I was itching for a smartwatch and I was fairly certain that the Pebble Time wasn't going to be it. Finally my old pebble got so intolerably buggy that I had to do something. The rest of the smartwatch market did not appeal to me due to high price and poor battery life. Also I think that all of the features that require a second hand for use don't make sense for a watch - i.e. anything that involves the touchscreen. All I really wanted was an attractive watch with time, a few basic apps and notifications, and a decent battery life. After scouring the market lo and behold the Pebble Time Steel fit the bill exactly, and wasn't going to bust the bank either. Yet, given the crappitude of the original Pebble I was a reluctant buyer. Well you know what they say about having low expectations....but man! This thing is great! It is really slim, attractive and the interface is pretty. I thought the super-fat bezel would be annoying, but it really isn't. The leather band is high quality and totally comfortable, and doesn't at all make me want to punch myself in the nuts like the original pebble's band did. So far the Bluetooth experience has been painless and reliable - absolutely nothing like the original. The interface has gone from annoying and clunky to snappy and useful. I charged it to full charge in I think less than 30 minutes and one week later it is still showing more than half-full charge. Wow, I mean just wow. I'm totally sold. This is a quality product at a good price with exactly the feature set I was looking for. Cant speak for the durability, but the design seems pretty solid so I have high hopes. If I lost this watch tomorrow, I would order a replacement on the spot. I give the Pebble Time Steel a full, unreserved 5-star endorsement.
