Update again- the seller reached out and sent me a new cac reader and it works perfectly!!! Their customer service is amazing. Everyone should buy this product. It’s truly a plug and play, no downloadable software needed for a government cac.

Update- the seller reached out very quickly to send me a refund and correct this issue. I would definitely shop with them again.

Originally, it worked well- for the first week. After that, it continues to not be able to read my card immediately. I have to continue taking it out and putting it back in for it to be read. I think I may have recieved a semi-insuffiecent item.

Gentle Reader

Two defective readers & one fried micro SDXC card

Saicoo noticed my review and sent me a replacement reader. On the first use, it seemed to do great -- amazing speed and no problems. On the second use, I noticed that speeds had dropped, but wrote it off to copying HD movies rather than the reader itself. On my third use, the Saicoo destroyed a week-old 64GB micro SDXC card. While the reader plugged in fine and was recognized, different cards plugged into it were not being recognized, although they were readable by my other micro SDXC card readers and by my Surface Pro 3. Stupidly, I left one micro SDXC card in the reader while I was doing something else. When I went back a few minutes later (no more than 5 minutes), I burned my fingers trying to take the card out. Apparently the reader fried my card because now it is not being recognized by any of my other USB 3.0 readers or by my computer. Needless to say, I'm NOT happy!

Given my experience with two of these readers now (the original and the replacement), I can not recommend this unit. The price is good, but I've not had any trouble with my TranscendTranscend USB 3.0 Super Speed Multi-Card Reader for SD/SDHC/SDXC/MS/CF Cards (TS-RDF8K)or Anker 3.0Anker® USB 3.0 Multi-in-1 Card Reader 4-Slots for SDXC, SDHC, SD, CF, High-Speed CF (UDMA), MS, M2, Micro SDXC, Micro SDHC, Micro SD Cards [Support UHS-I Cards] readers, both purchased here at Amazon. Lesson learned -- and an expensive one at that given the card it destroyed. My advice: Spend a few more dollars and get a higher quality reader.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:
This has promise, but I guess I am the unlucky one who got a dud. Only one of the micro SDXC slots allows cards to be inserted. The other slot in the front will not allow cards to be inserted properly, as they go off at an angle and won't fully seat. I am also not getting anywhere near USB3.0 transfer speeds. I was attempting to transfer 65GB of music to the card and it was telling me it would take 16 hours! And yes, I do have USB 3.0 slots that work on my computer (they work just fine with my external USB3.0 hard drive or flash drive, for example). Speeds seem to also be variable, ranging anywhere from 116kb/s to 1.2MB/s. I tried stopping the file transfer and reinserting the reader. It started off at 1.1MB/s and then went up to 11MB/s before dropping again. I expected more, considering that I have a fast micro SDXC cardSanDisk 128GB Ultra Class 10 Micro SDXC up to 48MB/s with Adapter (SDSDQUAN-128G-G4A) [Newest Version].

I am returning the reader to Amazon for a refund, but am wondering whether others have had a similar experience, as all I see are glowing reviews. Quality control can always miss one, so I'm trying to decide whether I should try another or look for a different reader. I really liked the idea of not having to use an adapter for the card and being able to transfer card-to-card. Thank goodness for Amazon's return policy!

It is made of decent acceptable plastic construction. Wish it could it feel abit more heavy duty, just in the hand, it feels a bit flimsy, especially the back and top of the unit. So if you randomly toss it into your laptop bag, recommend you put it in one of your laptop bag pockets. Otherwise functionality wise it works and is easily recognized by my laptop. It has a blue light that turns on once you plug it into your USB port and basically stays on constantly. Thus it doesn't blink on or off as if you were accessing data from your memory card. Thought this was strange, but the only other thing I noticed is that it does get a bit warm when it is plugged in and its just dangling when not in use. This could be from the blue led light being constantly on. Its a good size to be portable and the connector does not block your other USB ports. It works so far.

Wow!! After writing the below one star review Saicoo contacted me to make it right. They credited me the amount of the damage SD card so I could get a replacement and sent me another unit to try out. I don't have to tell you how rare it is to find a company that will do that. They deserve your business.

IMPORTANT TECHNICAL UPDATE: The card reader works fine, the problem is there are no instructions and the stencils on it are difficult to understand. That is why my micro SD card got stuck, it was oriented incorrectly. DO NOT insert a micro SD right side up (pins down) in the end port or it will get very stuck.

I suggest that Saicoo change the stencil on the side to show pins on the SD card icon and change the stencil on the back to show pins on the Micro SD card icon. This would correct the confusion.

Here is the correct way to insert the cards:
SD Cards:
Must be inserted in the side port upside down (gold pins up).
Must be inserted in the end port right side up (gold pins down).
Micro SD cards:
Must be inserted in the side port right side up (gold pins down). Note: about half of the Micro SD sticks out.
Must be inserted in the end port upside down (gold pins up) Note: it goes in very deep and only 1/8" of the Micro SD sticks out.

Original Review: This product is flawed, poor design or bad QC. I didn't even get a chance to see if it worked. I opened the package gently inserted my new 64 GB micro SD in the end and that was it. It was stuck, as if it had been glued in and could not be removed. I was so concerned about removing it that I forgot to even plug it in and see if it worked. To make a long story short the $20 micro SD card was destroyed (along with my personal files stored on it) while trying to get it out; it broke into pieces.

Afterwards, I did try the other ports. The side Micro SD port accepted the broken Micro SD without jamming, both standard SD ports (end & side) took the SD adapter without jamming, but the end port is not properly aligned with the hole and is deeper than the side one causing the card to get jammed.

I will contact Amazon returns for a refund for this reader, but what can I do about the $20 Micro SD that was destroyed because of it? Saicoo should cover the damage that their product caused.

Before you buy this product, read the description and make sure your card works with it. The first card reader I got I didn't fully read the description and it didn't work (it was one of the badges that wasn't supported with this reader).
