DEAD ON ARRIVAL...(I thought..)

This review has been edited... this psu works perfectly and it has increased the performance of my PC greatly! Easy install, very quiet, and super efficient. Must have power supply!

Old review. My replacement is being sent in the mail. I will change this rating if the new one works. The one I was sent would not power on my PC only my LED lights.. I troubleshooted everything I could but could not find any other solutions other than sending it back for a replacement... I hope this one works. It's not fun rewiring a PC...

Only lasted 4 months before it died completely. I submitted a warranty claim and initially I was very happy with the customer service until they would not warranty the product because they said the unit I returned was damaged during shipping. They provided me a picture to see the damage for myself and I can barely notice the damage to an already defective product. I attached a picture to show that they are looking for any excuse to deny the claim. This will be the last EVGA product I purchase. I will stick with Corsair PSU's from now on.

I thought the GQ model also got the self test tool, but apparently I am mistaken. Lots of delicious modular cables were included but no velvet wrapping Corsair makes you pay extra for. I did what all smart installers do and pulled my old PSU and cables out and installed this without a single test in between. Actually, that's a dumb thing to do. In any case, it fired up the first time which made me verrrrry happy.

The instructions are pretty bad if you're a first time builder. One and 1/4 pages devoted to instructions and one page for useless FAQ. The rest is specs and the standard warnings telling you not to attach the ends to your body parts or let your dog (or your mom) chew on the cables. At the very, very least, EVGA could vomit up an illustration of what cable goes to what plug. Once the PSU is in your system, it's a bit difficult to see what goes in where.

5 stars for working out of the box, minus one star for useless instructions, plus one star to Amazon for the sweet price. Keep in mind, this only has a five years warranty which is pretty standard for PSU's. If it wasn't for the price at the time, I may have gone with a G2 for the extra 5 years.

This is a good power supply. It's pretty much silent, which is awesome. On eco mode, the fan rarely even spins up because the power supply doesn't generate much heat. When it gets hot enough, the fan spins up, then turns off again. But even if you're keeping the fan always on, it's very quiet, although it does make this sort of faint high pitched sound that really bothers me. Others have mentioned it too and said that it goes away after a while, but not in my case.

Removed one star because mine came with a bunch of the cables missing, including the power cable. A power supply without a power cable. I don't know if this is EVGA's fault in packaging or Amazon's or 3rd party seller's fault, but whoever's responsible, that's a quality control issue and is inconvenient for the customer.

Additional modular power cables hard to find

This is apparently a one off evga power supply that uses a different modular cable connector format than every other evga power supply. I wanted more classic molex power connectors to power risers, but this only comes with 1 cable for this and 3 sata power cables. Because evga doesn’t make cable kits for this I ended up having to order custom molex cables from CableMod at a bit of a steep price.

In the end you are better off spending a bit more on a different model of evga power supply (avoid GQ), particularly if you want custom colored cable or additional molex for risers.

Other than the one off modular connector on this power supply I have been impressed with them. They have worked well and I was impressed with evga overall as this is my first power supply from them.

Just finished installing this power supply as my last one was lacking sufficient power. Quality of construction is top notch. Modular design is nice for minimizing number of cables inside of the case. Computer hasn't shutdown since installing, so that is a plus. Why only 4 stars? The amount of cable run between SATA connectors is too short. I could not daisy chain hard drives together on a single cable without having to remove a drive and move it closer and hold it in place with tape. I also had to use two SATA cables instead of one because I couldn't connect all 3 devices on it. Had there been longer distance between connectors, this would be a 5-star power supply.

Quiet, with power saving features (such as cooling fan off when power supply doesn't need it) this is a great power supply. The power cables are modular - you snap in the ones you need and dont have a bunch of others attached to the supply that aren't needed. I had to buy a SMAKN® 6-Inch SATA to 2 x Right Angle Latching SATA Power Dual 90 Degree Latching SATA Y Splitter because my case mounting for my hard drives really didn't have enough space to comfortably fit the straight plug type that come with this power supply. If you have plenty of room in your case for standard SATA power connectors then you cant go wrong with this power supply - I would buy it again.

EVGA makes very decent power supplies. Not a lot to go over as they are known for their reliability and lifespan. If you're an aficionado for build quality you won't be wowed in this price range, as everything seems to be nearly identical. Not a bad thing, mind you. I just wish some of these guys would be a tiny bit more generous with the main ATX cables. They are all made with the strongest plastic that is difficult to maneuver without straining them. EVGA is at least generous with the length- much more so than recent Corsair and Thermaltake PSUs I've used.
