Pretty straight forward, its a 1000W PSU, from a damn-good company.

3.0 out of 5 starsDied just after the 5yr Warranty window. I worked it hard but it's still EVGA's fault.
Reviewed in the United States on August 4, 2022
I'm only rating it so high because I know I pushed it near 1000W. The Warranty window closed in April. It died connected to a 900W load that could peak above 950W. I'll put some of that down to me running the device too tight to margins and some of it down to the device failing to live up to spec. The death happened while connected to a quality battery so it was definitely an internal fault and not a surge.

I should have replaced it when a clicking noise started that didn't seem to be the PSU fan. And the PSU may have been connected to other PC problems, but I don't know what correlates.

Moral: Buy a lot more wattage if a build might be upgraded later. Buying a PSU 20% above your expected peak load isn't ideal if you are keeping space for an upgrade that puts your peak load within 10% of taxing your PSU.

Details:

While this was installed I had an increasingly finicky ASUS motherboard that may have caused instability in a GPU. The GPU became stable in SLI though. The SLI refit put this system running over 900W when it was below 700W beforehand. Then the motherboard finally died and I replaced that. Now the PSU died. In retrospect, this PSU at low load could have contributed to issues involving the mobo I disliked. At high wattage the PSU was loud (as everything is) and died after two years of rare use, under 1,000 hours total. The PSU was definitely less than 20,000 hours runtime.

1.0 out of 5 stars This died on me within not even a year.

It worked pretty well then all of sudden it just died out of no where I've kept it perfect in condition and had great cooling around it and kept it elevated from the floor so I don't understand how it died on me. It also had some weird white stuff like glue or something similar in it after looking at. I don't think I can recommend this.

1.0 out of 5 stars Fried Everything
Reviewed in the United States on October 29, 2019

I installed this power supply like I have installed the many before it into my PC. This is a modular PSU so I swapped all my old cables out for the new ones it comes with. I turned on my PC it started for about 2 seconds and the entire computer shut off. I then tried again but this time it didn't even turn on. I checked to see if all my connections were right, and they were, then I assumed the worst. At this point I knew the power supply was definitely broken, but I didn't know that it had fried everything in my computer. I decided to swap out the broken power supply I had literly just ordered, for my old one, to see if it was just the power supply not providing enough power to my computer's components due to the power supply being obviously broken. To my horror I found out that the computer would still not turn on even after swapping to my old power supply.

Frankly after all this, I am disappointed in EVGA. Even though I know that it's not their fault that it got jostled around in shipping. I'm still upset that there is no replacement plan or anything for all the components that were fried by this defective power supply, because it was sent to me this way.

*Edit*
Actually I'm starting to believe that this was in fact their fault. I looked at the package the PSU shipped in and it has this 3 inch gap between the box for the power supply and the box it was actually getting shipped in. You would think that they would at least add some packing peanuts or something to cover the gap so the PSU's product box isn't shifting and jostleing around so much in shipping, but they did not. If EVGA wants to prevent damage from occuring during shipping then they should have gotten a bigger shipping box and used more packing materals. Or even better, a custom shipping box that actually fits the dementions of the box that the PSU actually comes in.

1.0 out of 5 stars Fried 3 Hard Drives
Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2022

The first one I ordered from amazon was DOA, so I returned it for replacement. The 2nd one powered up my system for maybe 3 seconds before shutting off. After that all 3 of my hard drives would no longer power on. The Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) on all 3 were fried. I had files for my job on those, personal data, etc. I liked EVGA a lot, but not anymore (at least not when it comes to PSUs). I went to a local electronics store and spent a little more money for a Corsair PSU. That was not a great way to start the New Year. DO BELIEVE the reviews mentioning that this is unstable and can fry your system. They are no joke. The only reason I paid no attention to those reviews was because my last PSU was from EVGA and I had been running it for years with no problems. You have been warned.

1.0 out of 5 stars Made in China and no longer a quality product

I have two systems both with EVGA 1000 GQ power supplies. When one died I swapped the supplies out and determined I had a bad power supply. I ordered one and it arrived DOA. I am returning it and ordered a replacement. The replacement arrived DOA as well. Neither power supply worked in either system and yet the one good remaining system supply still works in either system. I think EVGA has a problem here.
The original supplies were made in Tiwan and the new replacements are made in China. I tried to call EVGA tech support to let them know but got no where with their support line.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unstable Power - Shuts down several times a day
Reviewed in the United States on September 19, 2019

I realize many have already reviewed this item, but I need to add my experience. I have purchased two of these 4 weeks apart. Both units have power stability issues. Installed them in two very different systems. I have done extensive hardware testing with all systems components and all tests out well. Were this PSU fails is in long term usage. Both the systems i placed them in are systems that are left on 24/7 for various reasons. The PSU will cycle power and shut the system down between 2 and 12 times every 24 hours.

I have been building systems for more than 10 years. I used an array of tools to test both of these systems and them through the paces. I change the power supply with a different one and no issue. This unit fails and forces a hard reset several times a day. The failures have been regular over the last month with the newest one and over the last two months with the previous.

I was able to return the latest one I bought without issue. I am still waiting on the seller to respond for the oldest.

1.0 out of 5 stars DOA didn't power up an two different systems.
Reviewed in the United States on March 24, 2016

I purchased this PS as an replacement for my 900W 0815 power supply that went up in smoke.
1. Tested my remaining hardware with a 480W supply as far as I could and it came alive.
2. The Mother board took a hit when the 900W blew up and has since then a thermal problem, but may intermittently start up (BIOS without any peripherals).
3. To be sure the 1000GQ is in fact defective, I went through the hassle to dismantle a Dual core older Computer.
4. The 1000GQ was not able to power this know working computer either.

I read the reviews from others, usually the 1 Star reviews, to find a common problem. Most of the 5% reviews describe a DOA or some failure after a short operational time. It happens, that a batch within a production run can have some defects right out of the box. In general these are statistically 1-2% In this case the failure rate is a little on the high end, but thought I might get a good working unit.
Unfortunately I was not lucky enough.
For now I have a second one (replacement) on order and will see how this is working out.
If the replacement is also DOA my confidence level has significantly dropped and I would request a refund and go for a different brand.

1.0 out of 5 stars Destroyed 3 Hard Drives
Reviewed in the United States on March 14, 2018

Purchased as an upgrade from an EVGA P2 750W as I needed some more power as I was upgrading to a SLI rig with dual 1080s. Swapped out power supply and reconnected everything with no issues. Try to turn computer on and nothing happens. I can see power supplied to motherboard as it has lights on but nothing happens when pressing the power button. That's weird did I forget to connect any motherboard or cpu cables? Nope. So I go through and start disconnecting and when I unplug my SATA power cables computer starts up and boots. That's weird. Power down plug Sata power cables back in, and nothing. WTF. Move hard drives to a spare computer and plug them in and nothing. Hard drives wont spin up and don't even get recognized in BIOS. They are dead.

Would NOT recommend EVER upgrading EVGA Power Supplies. If you do you could one day pull a cable out while upgrading and blow up your system due to poor engineering on their part.

Conclusion: EVGA changed the pinout of the SATA cable to place 12V on Ground WITHOUT changing Guide pin layout. Destroying anything attached to it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Plenty of power, but only enough cables for 5 GPU. Poor support to order any more cables
Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2021

I disappointed with the limited number of 6pin cables that came with the PSU. I ordered two more cables ($17) from EVGA, but their support system is from the 1900s. No shipping estimates and no way to see updates. Is it coming in a couple days or a couple weeks - no telling. I asked for a a shipping ETA update from support due to the fact I am uncomfortable running two of the GPU risers off SATA connectors. They declared any future warranty claims null for using 3rd party products like riser cards. rather than provide any shipping ETA. Completely ignored the request for an ETA. Isnt EVERYTHING plugged into the PSU "3rd party" unless you go 100% EVGA mobo, GPU, and HDD?

did a mistake buying this from EVGA, they made the return process to get a new one very difficult, a lot of fill out forms, registrations, etc... and not to mention 1h on the phone.

This is the 3rd EVGA power supply I order that is dead on arrival.. makes me think they have very bad QA before they ship out their devices... many defective ones.
