How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsBeefy PSU for Beefy GPUs

Pretty straight forward, its a 1000W PSU, from a damn-good company.
If you're running a high-end Nvidia GPU you probably want this

3.0 out of 5 starsDied just after the 5yr Warranty window. I worked it hard but it's still EVGA's fault.
Reviewed in the United States on August 4, 2022
I'm only rating it so high because I know I pushed it near 1000W. The Warranty window closed in April. It died connected to a 900W load that could peak above 950W. I'll put some of that down to me running the device too tight to margins and some of it down to the device failing to live up to spec. The death happened while connected to a quality battery so it was definitely an internal fault and not a surge.

I should have replaced it when a clicking noise started that didn't seem to be the PSU fan. And the PSU may have been connected to other PC problems, but I don't know what correlates.

Moral: Buy a lot more wattage if a build might be upgraded later. Buying a PSU 20% above your expected peak load isn't ideal if you are keeping space for an upgrade that puts your peak load within 10% of taxing your PSU.

Details:

While this was installed I had an increasingly finicky ASUS motherboard that may have caused instability in a GPU. The GPU became stable in SLI though. The SLI refit put this system running over 900W when it was below 700W beforehand. Then the motherboard finally died and I replaced that. Now the PSU died. In retrospect, this PSU at low load could have contributed to issues involving the mobo I disliked. At high wattage the PSU was loud (as everything is) and died after two years of rare use, under 1,000 hours total. The PSU was definitely less than 20,000 hours runtime.

It had major coil whine so beware but for it to even be sent out with it yelling like that baffles my mind. I did return it with no issues what so ever but I got a different brand and was much better off

3.0 out of 5 stars this company didn't e-mail me back when i contacted them about sending me an open box.

i love being sold open boxes and told i'm getting new. especially when the "new" piece of equipment doesn't come with an instruction manual. ok less pissed off since it is amazon's fault, everytime i bring up the part i try to buy it comes up pc nation. so these guys at outlet pc are off the hook since they make no bones about selling open products. though i can only use two of the 3 wire harnesses i got with the power supply originally purchased , the cpu wiring harness the lock is broken on so it won't stay in with the wire tension on it.

above all the guys at outlet pc were helpful, and even patient with me, as i was a bit angry on the phone with them. they got me another 14 harness wire packet and an outlet cord for the power supply. but i still can't rate the unit since i can't use it till the harnesses are installed. so hopefully that will be saturday since today is thursday, though i'm banking on monday. then i gotta find time again to install the remaining gear.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fried my Fan Controller and BD/DVD
Reviewed in the United States on June 1, 2018

I’m giving it 3 stars, but don’t ask me why. I really want to give it one or two, but 3 because it works...mostly. I bought this to replace a Rosewill 1000w PSU that started giving me periodic power drops and reboots.

I removed my old PSU, out this one in, attached all the cables, and...my fan controller power line started burning. I thought, ok, I don’t use the controlled fans hardly at all; I can live with it. Unplugged all the manually controlled fans, closed the case and booted. Only the fans connected to the MB fired up. The ones connected to the case were dark. AND, I noticed the usually light in the DVD was out. Reworked some wiring and managed to get the 120mm case top fans running. Whenever I supplied power to the front external and internal fans, the PSU would click, flash a moment of power, and stop.

I have a Rosewill Nighthawk Ultra massive tower case that came stock with I believe 8 fans, powered by two ststions, one at the top, one at the bottom. Now, the only two plugged into the top station work, plus two more controlled by the MB.

I may have a faulty PSU. I hope so, because I’ve never seen anything like this in 11 years of IT with the navy and 30 years IT experience overall.

Edit: I put the Rosewill back in, along with the old cables and everything came up on the first try, except, of course, the fan controller and optical drive. I’ll be returning this one and I guess I’ll get another Rosewill.

3.0 out of 5 stars Does the job but is VERY loud when playing games
Reviewed in the United States on December 11, 2018

This power supply has been holding up about a month into me owning it and is working well with my system. I have a 2080ti with a i9-9900k and I've had no problems with crashes or anything of the sort. The only pet peeve I have with this power supply is the REALLY loud buzzing noise that occurs when a decent amount of power is running through it. Instantly when I open up ANY game the buzzing noise commences and is just very annoying. I will probably end up getting a different power supply in the future because of this issue alone.

1000w is enough to power a 6GPU mining rig. (GPU's turned down to at least 70% power through MSI Afterburner)

My problem with this power supply was the GPU power cords. I could only space my cards 3" apart. By using a
Corsair RMX 1000W  I was able to space my cards at 4.5" and due to the extra space, the cards run 10 degrees Celcius cooler.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bad Lingering Plastic Smell!
Reviewed in the United States on September 30, 2016

It's been a great power supply so far. I haven't had any issues besides the horribly strong plastic smell that it is emitting from the unit. I got the 1000w power supply so it shouldn't be burning up. I'm way under the total output. I don't know why the smell won't go away. It makes my entire house smell like strong plastic. I thought it would go away after a couple weeks but It's STILL HERE!
