A "Bear" of a Power Supply

This unit is big - no it's really big, we barely got it into the case and then due to baffles in that case there was no room for wire geography. It is 1600 watts so the size may be understandable. One thing that is VERY important with this (and other +1500 watt) units is the cables supplied. This comes with, I believe, 16 gauge cables. The majority of power supplies use 18 gauge cables (in case your not aware the lower number is a thicker cable - normal house wiring is 12 gauge). so don't substitute a cable you have lying around. Also you cannot use any of the extension cables listed as they are all 18 gauge. We normally build with custom made cables, made to size, so 16 gauge is not an issue. If you power your motherboard, using this power supply, and happen to use an 18 gauge cable it will be a problem. At best the cable will melt, at worst your motherboard will be damaged.

Anyway, this is a good 1600 watt power supply, but when all is said and done we prefer the Be Quite 1500 watt which at this time is a more sophisticated unit, and BTW smaller. But that unit has unique cables also because it uses proprietary plugs & cables.

Product lasted 10 months. Loud popping sound followed by a burnt electrical smell. To It's credit it tried to restart my pc but I quickly shut it down. Also to its credit my system wasn't hurt and seems to work/game fully on my old power supply. I will update this after I RMA.

Edit 2 > They (Denied) me my warranty because of an installation paint scuff(pictured). I've been a loyal customer for over 10 years. I regret buying my 1080ti from them. I'll find a brand that is loyal to it's customers. Very disappointed here.

Edit 3 > I rated this to 3 again. I've had PSU's destroy everything when they go bad and yours didn't. That's worth points.
After the bad reviews and pictures the same day EVGA contacted me with a refund. It shouldnt need to go this far but it is what it is. Love EVGA graphics cards. I'll return for more of those.

Bad experience with the PSU. EVGA should probably consider stronger consumer confidence tactics in regards to these. Just me two cents.

Best 1600 PSU probably ever made

I had been wanting this PSU for some years now, but it was always expensive, 600 dollars +, or it was always sold out, so seeing it for half the price was a brainer. My previous PSU was a Seasonic TX-1000 and it did the job to some point, but sometimes I did notice my system peripherals were getting dim or laggy. This was a problem when I had my old PSU that was rated low wattage for the system I had, also with next-gen GPUs and CPUs claiming to be power hungry this was the perfect time to buy. Seasonic makes really nice PSUs and is impressive in terms of reliability, but when I opened up the 1600 EVGA box, the premium level far exceeded anything I had ever bought from Seasonic.

Installed in my PC way back in 2014, and it has been reliable until very recently. Good noise level, and nice quality cables too.

If your PC starts having problems where it shuts off near full load, it would be worth investigating this PSU as that seems to be my problem. It seems like it can’t ride out the sudden power demand changes near full load.

I had such a good experience with this PSU that I bought another as it’s replacement.

One of the most efficient power supplies you can find on the market. It’s very quiet and well built. You can feel the quality from its weight.

Three downsides:
1. The positions of the sockets on the PSU seem a bit outdated. It’s not the best layout for modern cases where most cables route behind the back.
2. The EPS CPU cable is really difficult to plug in.
3. The cables are easily scratched.

Dunno why, but in the last month I had two brand new supplies fail in a row. Both $150 range Corsair and EVGA 850s that showed up already defective or failed within minutes. The Corsair took an entire new build out with it. The EVGA showed up with a funky 12v rail right out of the box. Doesn't say much about quality control anymore does it? These days the manufacturer name doesn't mean as much, it is the actual model that sets them apart, or not. And there is no way to build right cheaper!
Every review out there puts this EVGA Supernova 850 T2, 80+ Titanium 850W, Fully Modular at the top of the game. Yeah, its a hundred papers more than most. I learned the hard way that extra cash can be lost in a heartbeat by convincing yourself that good is good enough when looking at reviews and weighing it against the risk. My motto is to give yourself some head room on any build by sizing things over your needs for a ton of reasons. The core being the power supply and most if not all computer builders will tell you to add in a good 100W over your power needs to build a safety margin. Lots of posts out there describing the tech why's. Then do your homework! Start reading reviews.
Pretty much like the foundation in your house if it has any fault the entire house is worthless. What sane builder would build a home on a foundation others have had fail? I get trying to save a few bucks, we all do. BUT. Those few extra coins you may save buying a decent supposedly good enough supply 'may' pay off, but what if it doesn't? Nothing like a great smoke show on a new $3K computer to sober a guy up! Don't be me. Trust me, I will never do it that way ever again.
Do this!
Buy this truly great power supply, and do it right. Don't just read the reviews and justify your purchase with risk. Every other supply model out there has had failures! Bar none! This model however is as bullet proof as they can come. Then you have ease of mind tossing your gnarly hard earned power hungry money pit on top of it.
