4.0 out of 5 starsComplete failure after 23 days, however Corsair did replace it.
Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2018
6/5/2018 Fit perfectly in my compact tower, performed as expected for exactly 23 days, then complete failure. I would press the power button and my LEDs would flash and click twice and it would shut down within a second. Confirmed the failure with a local repair center, and confirmed it was not due to heavy load (my build only required 300-350 watts).
6/19 The RMA process via the Corsair website was fairly straightforward albeit frustratingly slow, but I now have a new PSU. Fingers crossed that this one lasts longer than the first. To be fair, I give the WORKING PSU 5 stars, I love it, it is quiet, and fits perfectly in my custom build, but I docked a star because of the inconvenience of having to get a replacement so soon after my initial purchase.

1.0 out of 5 starsCorsair SF450 RECALLED in 2020. Corsair Customer Service is Terrible
Reviewed in the United States on September 1, 2020
This item was recalled by the manufacturer. I purchase in 4/3/2020. There was a recall issued about 60 days after purchase for defective units by the OEM. I filled out the proper info for the recall in JUNE 2020 and have yet to get a replacement. It is a hassle...
Update: Aug 31 2020. Finally got a replacement. Still- unacceptable amount of time and hassle.

I needed a quiet and compact power supply for my SFF Dell, and this fit the bill perfectly. It's quiet at full RPM, and has a great warranty period. The modular design means less clutter in the case. It just works!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great PSU for SFF Builds!
Reviewed in the United States on August 20, 2016

This is one of the best performing PSU on the market. I feel confident starting my review with this statement.

Story:
I bought this for a mITX build. My case supports normal (ATX) PSUs, however I was curious of how this little guy could perform inside my system. First thing to mention is the quality of the product, it screams high quality everywhere, from the package to the components itself. compared to Silverstone SFX PSUs, I can tell the difference quality-wise, and don't get me wrong, I do like the offering from Silverstone in the SFX market.

Installation:
In therms of installation and setup, no problems at all, all the cables necessary are included in the box and this PSU being modular makes it pretty simple to just connect the cables you will be using in your system (everything is coded to match the connectors correctly). Cable management perhaps is the only "con" I could mention, even though "modular" should equals less tangle in cable management, in this case is not that accurate. Compared to a 450w non-modular Silverstone PSU the cable management is more difficult to route between my tiny SG13 Silverstone case, the modular connectors are a little stiff, so bend them doesn't feel natural, I could even think I may broke one of the connectors if I apply too much force on them trying to route them out of the air-flow path of my case fans. The good thing is that if you are like me, needing only a couple connectors in place should leave enough room free for the case to breathe fresh air.

Performance:
Silent, works very cool, the fan doesn't even spin most of the times, so you can be sure the noise levels coming from this unit will be near to 0. Temps seems to be fine even with my case components being little cramped inside.

Playing games for around 3 hours felt natural, heat and noise remain the same as it being in Windows Desktop just idle (to be fair, the only noise was coming from the GTX 1060 cooler). I can tell this PSU can handle my system with ease and I am pretty sure once I feel the need, I will be able to apply OC to the CPU and RAM without any issue.

My setup consist in:
I5 6600k stock
Noctua NH-L9x65 CPU Cooler
EVGA Stinger MiniITX Mobo
16GB Ripjaws DDR4 3000mhz RAM
Samsung Evo 850 SSD
Zotac GTX 1060 6GB Video Card
Silverstone SG13 Case
Corsair SF450w Modular SFX PSU
Windows 10 Pro

Conclusion:
If you are in the market for a new PSU in small form factor, this is a no brainer. Due to the tiny size of SFX PSUs, makes them ideal for cases with little to none air flow, leaving more free space between the CPU Coolers and other components compared to ATX or even SFX-L PSUs.

I recommend this PSU!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Budget SFX for Server Build
Reviewed in the United States on June 20, 2020

Thought about docking a star on this review for the photos of this thing- I had an issue previous to going with this SFX psu where the psu I ordered was NOT sfx, even though they said it was. I managed to find out and cancel my order, and found my way (after struggling to find ANY sfx psu that would ship quickly) to this one. I wish they'd have pictures of someone holding the thing, or something. It's easy to see the stock images for this unit and think, "hmmm doesn't that seem big?" No? Just me? Okay...which is why I gave it 5 stars.
Because, yeah. It's great. I've got a pretty low powered server running 24/7, and I doubt this thing's fan will EVER run, in my case. No fires or explosions yet, so that's a win. Cables are short, so make sure you're using this in a small case. My system will theoretically peak at 360 watts, so the 450 is perfect for me. If you're going for efficiency, remember not to go too close to your max wattage, BUT also don't get a 1600 for a 500 watt system- that can be inefficient as well.
Pretty cut and dry psu, definitely recommend.

Oh I also realize I'm a total hypocrite for not posting a picture of me holding this thing in my hand. It's already built so...oops?

5.0 out of 5 stars Silent, high quality

No noise.
Except for the fan spinning once on power on, i have not been able to put enough load or heat to turn it on.

Ran GPU and CPU stress tests (around 204 watts) for over an hour and fan never came on. Was only a little warm after the hour. And that could have been due to heat from CPU.

Note, i have the intake fan facing up(basically exhaust when fan isnt on) and right under a fresh air vent. Case is
Silverstone Computer Case with Mesh Front Panel,Black (SG13B)  with  Noctua Low-Profile Quiet CPU Cooler for Intel 115x Based Retail Cooling NH-L9I  CPU cooler and  Noctua SSO2 Bearing Fan Retail Cooling NF-A14 iPPC-3000 PWM  front fan. Running at 430 and 590 rpms right now(no low noise adapters, just set both profiles to 0% at 30C to 100% at 65C for CPU and MB temps, room is 25C/73F probably). Did not know about this power supply. With the  SilverStone Technology Universal ATX to SFX Power Supply Bracket RL-PP08B  adapter adding around 22mm of height, probably could have gotten a 120mm based cooler like  Noctua NH-L12 Low-profile Quiet CPU Cooler with 120/90mm Dual PWM Fan , not sure.

Dislikes:
- The SATA power is using all right angle connectors, so they are very hard to position near each other and also only 4 connectors. If you only have one or two drives not an issue.

You need 2 PCIe 6pin(peripherals), 3 ATX/CPU/EFS 8pin(cpu,gpu)(not 8pin PCIe) and 1 ATX 10pin plus 1 ATX 18pin(motherboard) female connectors on the power supply side to make your own set of cables.

Last note, does not come with ATX to SFX adapter plate. Glad, since I found the Silverstone adapter that is much better design than Corsair's adapter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Completely silent at low to medium load
Reviewed in the United States on March 28, 2016

This PSU is quieter than the Silverstone SFX-L ("long") PSUs which fit a 120mm fan. How? The fan in this PSU is *off* at ordinary loads. I'm not sure yet what would even cause the fan to come on: I've run for 10 minutes with a 980ti and i5-6600K both maxed out and the fan didn't turn on. I might have to wait until summer.

Since it's standard SFX size you've got more room to maneuver in the cases which support SFX-L. The modular cables are not super soft, but they are flexible enough to route without having them fight with you. My only objection to the cables is that the clips don't seem to latch as positively as others. This PSU has two separate 6+2 pin PCIe power cables which both run all the way back to the PSU. The Silverstone I replaced had one heavier cable with dual 6+2 pin headers on one end which was a little nicer to deal with.

In a Silverstone Raven, the internal power routing for the input power can't quite reach the connection on this PSU without unhooking it from its internal clips so it can cut the corner in the case. The PSU's connection is at the far end relative to the cable routing, and the connector is upside-down compared to what the case was designed for, requiring an extra loop.

This PSU did not come with an ATX adapter plate, so you can't put it in a larger PC case.

Overall I'm very happy that this PSU is available now: The Silverstone SX500-LG I replaced made horrible chirpy sounds at low loads because it tried to drive the fan a little too slowly. The SFX-L (larger, square, fits 120mm fan) was also much harder to work with.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great SFX PSU with Minor Shortcomings
Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2016

Great little modular power supply. Meets expectations. I used this in an unRAID media server and decided to go with an SFX PSU to create a little more room and better airflow in the case. The case will accommodate a short ATX PSU (I had a Corsair CX430 in the case), but, I decided to go with this SFX PSU as part of my NAS upgrades.

I knocked off one star for the following shortcomings:
1 - No included SFX to ATX adapter. Come on Corsair, Silverstone includes an adapter in the box with their SFX PSU.
2 - Very short cables. Yes, I know this is intended for use in small form factor cases, but, I put it in a 5-8 hard drive NAS case (Lian-Li PC-Q25) designed for Mini-ITX motherboards and two of the four 4-pin molex connectors on the molex cable cannot reach the drive bay connectors without extenders. May have had the same problem with SATA cables if they were needed in drive bay or if I had all three possible drives installed on the bottom tray.
3 - Modular cables are very stiff and not easy to move around and place where needed. This also makes connecting the cables a bit difficult.

From reading other reviews, I knew these things beforehand, but, they are still shortcomings that, in my mind, prevent this from being a five-star unit.

4.0 out of 5 stars Modular PSU has questionable utility for SFX form factor.
Reviewed in the United States on July 25, 2016

Not much to add to the professional reviews published elsewhere and the user reviews here. The consensus is this is one of the best performing PSU on the market.

And while this is probably the best power supply I have ever owned, cable management options afforded by modular power supplies seem of little to no advantage over "non-modular" in an SFX form factor. SFX PSU are small to begin with and consequently have less cabling/connectors.The flat cables don't work for me as well as individual/sleeved. If you're going from hardwired to modular, temper your expectations accordingly.

Another issue is the 4+4 cable doesn't separate and that the "manual" does not make that clear. If it did, then things would have gone more. . smoothly. . . for me. I'd been using laptops exclusively since 2003 and I had never seen an 8 pin CPU (4 pin, most assuredly) connector before and additionally didn't know there was a difference between 8 pin PCIe (6+2) and 8 pin CPU (4+4). Luckily I did not damage my motherboard and I eventually got all the connectors connected "properly".

Also if you need a just one molex connector and 1) don't want to attach the cable to get just one and 2) not using all 4 SATA power connectors look for "SATA to LP4 15 Pin Power Adapter

5.0 out of 5 stars Fits Perfectly in HTPC Case - Always Reliable
Reviewed in the United States on April 18, 2020

Great power supply for my m-itx, SFF, HTPC. I upgraded my HTPC to a Ryzen-5 and AMD graphics card that required upgrading the original 300W SFF power supply to 450W. Corsair is known for their reliable products and this power supply did not disappoint. The power supply fit perfectly in my tiny Silverstone case and the modular cable feature is a BONUS as it increased my space as the unused cables were left in the box. My only issue was the 12V power cable was a bit short (about 2 inches more would be nice!). I was able to connect but the cable didn't follow my original planned design and instead is a straight shot from the PS to the board.

5.0 out of 5 stars Plenty of power, and runs very quiet and cool
Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2016

This is my first SFX PSU and I was amazed at how petite they are compared to an ATX PSU! Here's my review, by topic:

CONTENTS OF PACKAGE: This PSU was well-packaged and came with the PSU and a variety of connectors packaged in small velveteen drawstring pouches, along with some small zipties for cable management.

INSTALLATION: Connected easily into my NCASE M1 with 4 provided screws into the SFX bracket.

FUNCTION UNDER LOAD: So far my system includes an H170 motherboard, an i3 CPU, CPU HSF, 16 GB DDR4, an M.2 SSD, a 2TB 7200 rpm HDD, an 8TB Seagate Archive HDD, and a slim Blu-Ray drive/burner. The PSU doesn't even break a sweat while powering these, even functioning simultaneously. However, this is using onboard graphics. With a GPU card installed/during gaming the load will certainly be higher although it seems there will be plenty of overhead room left even for a powerful card.

NOISE/HEAT: The fan doesn't even spin up under the current load. I imagine it would kick in with a graphics card, but with my current load it's 100% silent and produces very little heat to speak of.

4.0 out of 5 stars BE AWARE THE FAN ONLY TURNS ON AT A CERTAIN WATTAGE DRAW
Reviewed in the United States on May 14, 2017
Verified Purchase
As a SFX power supply it is very small if you are used to ATX power supplies. 450 watts is plenty for the system I built. The one thing that bothers me and keeps it from getting 5 stars is the fact that the fan only turns on when a certain watt draw is placed on the PSU. According to it's manual the fan turns on at 20% load. Unfortunately 20% load is 90 watts. I have a 50 watt CPU and a 75 watt GPU. That is their max wattage and I guess I haven't reached 90 watts usage yet even when gaming. I wish I could adjust the PSUs fan setting so it would at least spin when I am in a game. I worry it may burn up and never turn it's fan on. If you have a case that will mount this on the top of the case I assume you will be fine because your case fans will naturally put some air flow through it. If yours is a bottom mount like mine the only air flow it gets is what it creates itself.
