This 4 pack of Wilton Gel Primary Icing colors, is perfect for my basic baking and decorating needs. I wanted a set of gel coloring that I could use when I get around to making macarons, and also use for other stuff. The colors are bold, intense, and concentrated. It is so much better than the typical food coloring I have purchased in store.
A little goes a long way and I can actually achieve a bold bright color. I even played around with mixing colors to make new ones, or different variations of the same color. It really worked out at Christmas time and I was making tree shaped frosted sugar cookies. I just wanted green frosting, but decided to make a few different shades of green. So straight kelly green, a yellow based green, and a blue based green. The green themed palette looked great once all plated together.
While it says gel, it isn't as thick as the little pots of color, but it sure is thicker than the typical liquid. I don't taste anything with these, likely because I need a lot less to establish a strong color. I have had no issue with getting a red, a green, a blue, or a yellow. Nothing looks off to me?
At $4, it was a worthwhile item for me to try.
