How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

1.0 out of 5 starsHorrible service...... Would not recommend! Repair takes months and requires customer to ship product to China.

Horrible service...... Would not recommend!

My Techart stopped working during the warranty. Photo Village, Amazon's vendor and Techart's USA importer, insisted that my only option was for me to ship the product to China, predicting it would take months.

One would think that Techart would have a USA facility to repair or swap the product. I can't imagine how Techart will survive in this market with this policy.

3.0 out of 5 stars it's great! I used with Zeiss ZM 25mm
Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2017

Mine never arrived due to USPS literally losing it. But I got another from another seller. I see everyone raves about it. It's a perfect-ish idea, works to supplement when you want the equivalent of an Auto Transmission at times in traffic - i.e. to relax a bit, shoot one handed, secondary camera, breezy shooting situations, etc. But, it simply doesn't work at times and that means it actually won't actuate the shutter unless focus is achieved which means missed shot opportunities. No ability to zoom in as you can with MF, nor MF over ride - requiring switching adapters if you then decide you need accuracy and reliability in focus. So when I go out street shooting seriously, or on pro jobs, I can not use it. If you don't missing a few, it's great! I used with Zeiss ZM 25mm, ZM 35/1.4, Voigtlander 40/1.4 (best combo), Voigtlander 35/1.2, etc.
------
after more than a year it no longer works at all. can not be used as a dead adapter because can not actuate shutter

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Photographic Tool for the Manual Lens Enthusiast
Reviewed in the United States on November 8, 2016

I received #869 but sent it back for repair and got #425 back in it's stead. So, i am a fairly early adopter who ordered this months before it was released. Anyways, onto the review.

The focusing is crisp. Fast and accurate. When pixel peeping say @ 300%, manual focusing without adapter while using maximum focus peaking is marginally better than when using adapter to auto focus. However, I require the adapter's service when 1) I need focus fast and when 2) I am using large aperture lens that's nearly impossible to manually focus in under 10 seconds such as when using Voigtlander 35mm 1.2 and Nikon 50mm 1.4 at or near max aperture.

Although the adapter is designed for Leica M mount, I use a plethora of vintage Nikon lenses with a Fotodiox Nikon to Leica M adapter. My favorite to use are the aforementioned 50mm 1.4 Kogaku and the 55mm Micro Kogaku.

Also, after updating driver, the adapter can now pre-focus then recompose. Before this update, it was impossible to get something not in the center of the frame to be focused.

I am reliant on this adapter when shooting at max aperture as I can only achieve a 10% rate of getting the focus right as the DOF is razor thin. Whereas, the percentage is about 90% when using the adapter to auto focus. Although, subjectively, when I manual focus, the shots are generally a tad sharper, but it takes me longer to compose and focus, and, especially when shooting people, I miss a lot of good shots this way.

Now, room for improvement:

1) When installed, the bottom portion of the adapter is too close to the camera's tripod mount hence prevents tripod or connection plate from being screwed into the camera's tripod mount. Maybe shift the "box" portion to the side.

2) No way to turn auto focus off when adapter is installed. There should be an option to turn auto focus off. When in focus menu, the manual focus option is grayed out when adapter is mounted. Maybe a driver update to allow manual focus to be selected or just be able to turn the adapter off even when installed on camera.

3) Maybe 1 out of 100 exposure attempts, the adapter gets stuck and needs to be turned off then on in order to reset.

4) Exposure actuation speed is great for normal use but too slow for moving objects which I know is outside of the product's intended use but would be great if this could be improved. Maybe a manual focus assist option.

5) Instead of multi point focus, I'd like to be able to use single point focus with ability to adjust focal point.

Customer service: I did accidentally drop my camera once while the adapter was installed. The adapter was banged up and stopped working. And, Techart covered the repair and returned it to me in less than a week. Basically, they replaced my damaged one with another.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lens Wobbles Making Corners Blurry
Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2017
I used this device with a Sony A7R2 and several different Leica M lenses. I noticed that different corners of the photos became blurry randomly. It seems that there is play in the mechanism that causes the lens to be tilted with respect to the sensor plane.

Here is an example of sharp and blurry corners using a Leica 90mm f2.0 lens.

I noticed that if I pushed on the lens it would wobble slightly with respect to the camera.

I disassembled the Techart device using JIS Screwdriver to remove the two screws holding the black metal cover.

The lens carrier is moved by a stepping motor that drives a rack and pinion through a reduction gear, The lens carrier slides on two linear bearings, a large one and a smaller one. That is the only support for the carrier, so it is cantilevered over quite a distance and can flex.

This is fundamentally a bad design, There needs to be 3 point support of the lens carrier, probably using a spiral cam that engages the carrier at 3 points.

Techart seems to have the software down pretty well, The device focuses quickly and accurately, but the corners will often be off focus.

If the user is not too concerned about focus at the corners and if the user uses higher f numbers this device could be useful. There is also the question of manufacturing tolerances. Different samples might be much worse than the sample tested.

BOLEX ON MY MIND
5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING AUTOFOCUS FOR MY LEICA M LENSES ON SONY a7III.
Reviewed in the United States on August 12, 2018

What a total pleasure! It’s amazing that my Leica, Zeiss and vintage lenses have come back to life. I really began to stop using them because manual focusing had become simply too tedious to continue when the auto focus world is right there in front of us.
The techartpro adapter does a fantastic job of auto focusing all of my old or Leica M mount lenses. I really love it!
It also helps get me closer to Macro work then no adapter at all. What a bonus!
Sometimes I need to adjust my focus for close focusing or infinity focusing but other than that it’s all automatic.

These people invented this device and it’s spectacular! Don’t buy the knock off, illegal version of this device.

4.0 out of 5 stars I love it...but need to adjust exposure

Focus is fast and accurate. Make sure on the A7RII to lower exposure conpensation by 4-8 stops in low light. My adapter messes up the metering with auto white balance set to daylight. Didnt seem to malfunction unless shot indoors or in an ambient or dimly lit room.

Amazing adapter and opens up a whole new world of lenses on my Sony A7R II. Once you learn how to properly map the right buttons to your camera to maximize the adapters abilities you will not be disappointed.
