Fast connection even with multiple walls/floors between this WiFi adapter and my router. Installation on my Macbook was super easy and fast - essentially just plug it in and go! Note that this does not come with a USB extension cable! For some reason I thought it did, and I didn't realize how critical this would be. On my 2013 Macbook Pro, this TP-link WiFi adapter blocks either the headphone jack or the HDMI port when plugged into either of the USB ports... So now I'm ordering a USB extension cable! This will also help with the issue of it sticking out from the computer in a dangerous way!

I am using this product with TP-Link routers. 5Ghz download at 30 feet away and clear line of sight my router and speeds are less than 1mbps. 2.4Ghz is almost on par with the laptops stock wifi. Laptop is a Toshiba Satellite S-75 that for some reason only has B/G/N capabilities. If I new then what I know now I would say STAY AWAY. This was tested with both Ookla Speedtest and Google's Internet Speed Test. There are times when I can't even load Ookla while on 5Ghz. I have tested the distance with other wireless devices (tablets and phones) and get at least 200mbps from each of them. Inconsistent junk!

This purchase is for a friend of mine His Windows 10 laptop is too old, and its internal adapter is unable to locate routers with Wifi6 technology. This adapter was easy to setup and install. It took me a minute without needing the instructions. It frequently diaconnects from the router and that laptop is once again not able to locate Wifi6 routers. I changed some performance settings on the laptop (disabling the USB auto shutoff) and the adapter seems to be functioning as advertised. I will see how long this lasts. The important thing is that my friend's out-of-date laptop can connect to new routers.

Researched quite a lot on USB 3.0 wifi adapter. Being using it for a week, its performance is excellent so far. Here are some highlights.
#1 This is the only adapter I've known of that works with Mojave at this moment.
#2 Even the driver for macOS Mojave is a beta version, it actually behaves really stable. Never did I dropped signal, router in 1st floor I sometimes use my laptop in second floor.
#2 The throughput reached my ISP's max capacity every time I test it.

I needed to upgrade the WiFi on an older computer to match my new AC router and this did the trick. I can't speak on distance, but if you are just going one room over then it works great. If you have your computer hidden and surrounded by many wires, it may not perform as well. I did not use a rear USB port either. I use the ones on the front of the case that is in the general direction of the router in the next room. It has not been flaky or dropped connection on me. I'm using Windows 10 and have not had any issues so far.

The good news: it's very fast!!! The bad news: it is very large and sticks out so far that I worry it might get bumped, and occasionally drops the wifi connection. Worse news and major problem: despite numerous attempts over several week with their supposed tech support help, it is incapable of updating it's firmware. Whether the problem is the software on TP-Link's web site or the device itself, I don't know. I finally got fed up with the numerous attempts including Tp-Link emailing me the software firmware version to install that gave me prompts in Chinese (which I cannot read) and I returned it to Amazon. There are known security issues in outdated firmware - if I can't update to the latest version, then I do not want it.

I ended up buying the Edimax AC1200 wifi adapter and it works great, very tiny, very fast (TP-Link was ever so slightly faster), never drops connections, and the firmware updated without a problem!

TP-Link support assistant (Jarvis Zuo) continued to provide help to get my TP-Link Archer Tu4 USB wi-fi adapter operating under an older Windows OS (Windows XP). They provided a driver file that finally did the trick - emailing me several times until we got it connected. Their web sites driver did not work (although it stated it was for Windows XP) but Jarvis Zuo emailed me detailed instructions on how to install the driver from another one of their vendors (they emailed me said driver). I highly recommend TP-Link products - and most important is their dedicated tech support.

The original already broke and got a (refurbished) replacement. Even when it works, the connection is unreliable. Repeated speed tests yield inconsistent results. In contrast, my old 802.11g/n wireless adapter which I purchased in 2014 is still going strong and does provide me with a stable connection. The reason I purchased this was to experience better performance for streaming and sometimes the device drops down to nearly 1 Mbps for no reason whatsoever; making streaming impossible without constant buffering. It has gotten to the point where I am keeping my old adapter at arm's reach so I could switch to it when it starts acting up.

I don't completely hate this device, but I will be looking to replace it very soon. By the way, I would try to use it with the default driver first. If you can get good results that way, keep it. I have the impression that the device driver they provide has issues (but I cannot prove it).

As I mentioned before, I got a replacement for this device already. Because the warranty with the seller had already expired, I had to deal with TP-Link directly. The process was a bit painful, but at the end, I got them to replace the item. My old device wasn't even powering up at times. It was REALLY bad. The replacement "works" all the time, just not at peak efficiency from time to time. I attached a picture of some of the speed test history so that you could get an idea of what I am talking about.

Didn’t work with my Pi 3B+

I couldn’t make it work with my Pi 3b+ running RoPieeeXL set up as a Roon node and AirPlay for my stereo. I wanted to improve streaming performance but no success (ended up upgrading my Verizon router and that helped a great deal, no more skips when streaming music).

I also tested the performance with my hackaintosh and it was very decent, but not as good as as a PCI wife card. You do need to install and run the TP-Link driver...
