I take all of my kitchen items, tools, utensils, knives, serving items and other accessories very seriously and when I test and review culinary items, I am highly critical and meticulous in evaluating and rating them. I've have tried a number of sushi-making gizmos over the last few years. Always trying to find an effective one that my cooking students can use to make authentic and well-made sushi. This is it!
Simple and well-made, with instructions both in the box, as well as on their website...along with a digital sushi cookbook to get you started.
The wood this is made from works well, and it's important to wet it while using to keep the rice from sticking. The instructions are generally clear and this unit can make sushi rice side in, and rice side out as well as other Japanese style sushi.
Though a very simple contraption, it just works. No need for tubes or mechanical press systems...this is easy to use and fully functional.
The photo attached to this review is the spread I made using the Sushi Maker for the very first time. Practice makes perfect, and this is certainly not the best that it will produce, but for the first time, I am IMPRESSED with the ease and operation.
