I absolutely love this metal detector. I have a lot of fun using this detector to hunt for coins in the park. It is fairly lightweight and works as advertised. The lifetime warranty offered by Tesoro can't be beat! This is a great detector for a beginner or for a seasoned detectorist looking to add it to their arsenal. My only complaint is that there's no volume control - I definitely recommend purchasing a pair of headphones with adjustable volume controls built in especially if you're going to be using it in the presence of others. Good luck out there and have fun!

This was a birthday gift for my husband. He picked out because it had good reviews online and seemed to be a good value for the price. He has a lot of fun with it and has found some interesting things around our 1880s house.

Pros: Good price, reasonable performance, incredibly light weight, ground switch allows you to work in hotter ground, and Tesoro's lifetime warranty and service, which is the best in the business!
Cons, This new thin coil is incredibly prone to electromagnetic interference (EMI) from power lines. I say the coil and not the detector, because swapping out with an old school epilson 5 pin coil eliminates the interference. It is so bad that when near a power line, swinging the detector causes the unit to chirp on the apex of the swing left or right. You can literally tap out morse code, by lightly tapping the coil with your finger, so any slight bump or contact with the ground causes a chirp. This detector seems a little cheaply made, with a plastic face plate and what at least seems to me to be a thinner plastic on the control housing. Now this is a personal issue which may not be shared by all. The response tone for the detector is a really low buzz, which at least to me is very irritating.
Conclusion: Nothing new here other than a ground switch, which isn't as good as a manual ground balance. Seems like just a silver sabre Umax, made more cheaply with a ground switch. For the beginning detectorist it would be a good unit for a great value, but for a seasoned detectorist, you most likely already have a detector in your arsenal which would do a better job. I have been using Tesoro detectors since 1992, but I feel like that's also about the year their technology ceased to advance.
