I’m using this meal to amp up the calories, fiber and nutrition intake for my 81 yr. old partner. He is in fairly good health but his appetite is not near what it used to be so he has lost weight. In addition to that, he seldom wears his dentures so finding foods he can eat is difficult. I know how good nuts are, and almonds especially, but he could never chew them. The almond meal solves my problem. I put it in his scrambled eggs, his fruit salads and in his dinner. He gets all the benefits without having to eat a lot more food. There is no grit to this meal either but it does have a texture to it.
We recently had a health scare where he ended up in hospital. Thankfully he is ok but I was horrified when he got on the scale. He weighed 130 and he should weigh around 145/150. When you see a person every day, you kind of lose sight, I certainly did.
Just adding an update to this review. It has been a couple of weeks since I started adding almond meal to his food and he is gaining approximately a pound a week. He would never eat breakfast except for his nutritional drink (generic ensure) but I make a scrambled egg with butter and olive oil and add a heaping tablespoon of the almond meal to it every morning. I also add it to his fruit salad made with frozen blueberries, frozen cherries, canned chick peas, natural olives and canned fruit cocktail. If we have soup, stew, chili, whatever, I also add some to that.
For an older person who fills up easily, this is a perfect way to add additional nutrients without the person feeling over full. He is up to 134.6 now and I owe this success in large part to the almond meal. That and my partners acknowledgment that he just has to eat more. I’ve always been a healthy eating advocate but my low fat and low calorie plan over the years suddenly backfired and he was wasting away.
He feels and looks better already. I really do love him. 💕
