Like anything "insurance"/"reassurance" related...you are gambling. Yes, if you need it and don't have it—you're screwed. Normally when you have it and don't need it, you gambled your money away (but could sleep at night).

Let's talk about facts...everything can malfunction. It's technology, it does that. Does it mean that it will in the 2-year span that you have the recovery plan PER PRODUCT YOU BUY THIS FOR...I won't jinx you. I will say, though, that you should do your research on the exact product that you are buying first, because the chances of it failing on you when it's a bad product are higher (thus needing a recovery plan) versus buying a good product and realizing that you would maybe only need data recovery for that product 10 years later (i.e. it is no longer eligible).

My opinion (don't come at me after you make your own choices): don't waste your money if your product is good AND YOU HAVE BACKED UP YOUR WORK ELSEWHERE.

My product was delayed, but the data rescue people had already taken the money out. Since the product was delayed, I canceled the order altogether, because I can get a new product with a better shipping date, so I canceled the order, but the data rescue people don't want to give me my money back. They keep telling me the order says it's already been shipped, and to contact the postal service and wait to May 7th, when I ordered the original product on the 14th of April, and it was supposed to be here by the 20th. Now I'm paranoid about using their services again in the future because I know if a product is delayed and I have to cancel it, I'm going to have a hard time getting my money back from these guys.
