I read the book, enjoyed it and found myself wanting more.
Although the story of Howard Finger’s business troubles and eventual renaissance, with the aid of his two mentors, Joel and Aryeh, was interesting, even so, well into the book I was still wondering about the universal application of his specific circumstances. In other words, while I’m glad he turned his business and life around, what’s in it for me, I wondered.
However, the author(s) managed to eventually pull it all together and demonstrated that just as Howard solved his particular troubles, so too the interested reader, if willing to put in the effort, could anticipate similar benefit in their own unique situation. To this end, the inclusion of resources at the end of each chapter was a nice touch and could well bring the most long-term benefit and use for the reader.
If I can have one quibble, I would have preferred to read more of Joel and Aryeh and less of Howard. Joel and Aryeh are presented throughout as Svengali-like characters, presenting wisdom and advice to the benighted but grateful neophyte Howard, yet obliquely throughout the course of the book we learn that Joel has his own business struggles and his own angst about the best way forward to grow his own business and Aryeh has undergone a process of maturation and self-discovery to arrive at his present stage of enlightenment. I would have loved to have learned more about their journey to the stage where they currently find themselves dispensers of wisdom.
All in all it was a well-constructed and reasonably absorbing book and Howard is to be commended for his willingness to share his path to financial, familial and personal recovery.

I’ve read a lot of mindfulness books, and read a lot of business books. This has been the only book that’s really addressed both things, mindfulness and business, and in harmony. The mindfulness people always expect you to give up all your possessions and go live on a mountain somewhere. The business people want you to give up all your outside pursuits and spend every waking minute thinking about your work. This book is a paradigm shift away from that kind of stuff. It's about combining your work life with your own life, and making them both improve as a result. Living mindfully and working mindfully, and actually sometimes turning off from the world for a few hours is incredibly helpful for mind body and work.

I approached Howard’s story as a lecture, stopping after every chapter to reflect on what was written and how my feelings and thoughts were affected by what I read. Almost like a mindfulness exercise in itself. This approach helped me to get down to the root of the book, and the problems I faced in my own business. It made me realize my own mindfulness blocks and what I need to do to get things moving. I was surprised to see how much of Howard I noticed in myself, and how many of the same challenges that Howard experienced, I am facing in my own business. I have already implemented many of the practical steps from the book in my business, and I must admit I am a bit surprised at how quickly I am seeing results. I am actually quite excited to work more on my business and not just in my business. What I really appreciate about Gerschman as an author is that he takes information that is vital to a well run business and presents it in a practical, meaningful way that is immediately and easily applicable, even for busy harried CEOs like me. The payoff is immediate, and therefore it is self-motivating to keep implementing more of the practical steps. Thank you for giving me back a large chunk of my life and sanity!

This is the first business self help book I couldn't put down. What a way to learn great life and business lessons thru a great told story which really captured the intensity of Howard Fingers life experiences. Written so well I was transported into Howards shoes as if I was experiencing myself the whole process while practically taking a way the valued life and business lessons to take my business and life to the next soul level of cohesiveness of life's purpose, business, and contributor to the global community. This book has become a reference source for me to seek advice and gain strength in my personal process to success.

Hallelujah! Finally, a book that differentiates itself from the usual ho-hum self help business books out on the shelves. Truth is, the title looked interesting enough (Mindful is quite the word these days) but I wasn't sure I could gain from reading ANOTHER business book of how the author succeeded and I THE READER ,obviously yet had not despite having read other books like this before.! ...But here I was wrong as it is off the beaten path and different from other books in its genre!. It takes off quickly and soon enough I was hooked. I was intrigued to discover that I loved careening wildly down the path of Howard's slippery slope of a journey as he almost burns and crashes...and then gets back up again to watch his business grow and inner life flourish. The insights were real, and valuable (thank you Howard for baring your soul) and his simultaneous juggling the balls of business and family without losing his mind were enlightening . The colleagues he consulted with during the roller coaster of change to keep the business afloat, provided, high level, practical tidbits I could grasp without needing the handy MBA calculator, ensuring a smooth, uplifting and enjoyable read. DON'T MISS IT!!!

I am not usually a fan of self-help business advice books. I find them a little too theoretically driven, and the language makes them hard to digest.

Not so with The Mindful Entrepreneur. Howard's story, as told through the lens of Joel, his business coach and mentor is an easy read. The chosen format of a story creates a business guide that gets to the heart of what so many small business owners must go through. The constant questioning, doubting, attempts at finding the right balance between their work goals and their personal, life goals.

The advice and suggestions offered throughout this story are applicable in so many ways. I have already implemented several pieces of advice into my own business. I think this is a remarkably honest tale, and I think it is this honesty that helped me to be able to acknowledge where I have fallen down in my own business.

I think this book is a MUST READ for any serious small business owner, who is looking for a way out of the rat race. Highly recommended!

I can't wait for Joel's next book!

I have had the please of working with Joel in person and I found this was an excellent summary of some the valuable lessons and changes he helped me make in my own business.
I strongly recommend this book for anyone who runs their own business. It is easy to get caught up in the day to day runnings of your own company and this book will really help you stop, pause and think about why you are doing what you are doing and are there better ways of doing it.
As Joel asks all the time, "Do you want to work for your business or do you want your business to work for you?".

OK, so I'm also a serial entrepreneur with many years experience with my own start-ups, failures and successes. I too have read the Anthony Robins and Michael Gerber books and taken many important lessons from them.

But this book has provided me with all the valuable lessons neatly packaged in an easily readable conversation and story like book. It's funny how after many years in business, we know the lessons explained in The Mindful Entrepreneur. But as Howard experienced, the lessons are so easily forgotten as you get bogged down in "doing it... doing it".

Reading this book (and its a nice quick and easy read) has brought the important business lessons back to "front of mind". It kind of like a neat injection of business acumen and wise advice. Without doubt, I'll be re-reading this every year at least to help me keep on the straight and narrow.

I believe the 'Mindful Entrepreneur'  speaks to small business owners, who are caught in the day to day cycle of trying to stay afloat, competitive and relevant in an ever changing world. Rather than talking business theory in a cold and clinical manner, the 'Mindful Entrepreneur' utilises a soft and easy to follow story-line to which many small businesses owners should readily identify and relate. The 'Mindful Entrepreneur' book's soft touch, makes reading easy going, with a useful summary at the end of each chapter of the key 'take home' messages. I believe that the 'Mindful Entrepreneur' is a great resource for small business owners, who are time poor, and do not want to get bogged down in management theory, but are looking for some quick and easy thought provoking ideas to help them get their business and private life in order.

Fascinating, open, honest and compelling story of struggle and perseverance. A MUST read for anyone and everyone who wants to start their own business but just as practical for any Manager. There are so many lessons to be learned from this book which gives a practical step by step approach to business, through Howard's eyes and his company. Everyone has failures, we just have to learn to ask the right questions and to seek help and guidance. Howard was lucky to have mentors like Joel and Aryeh to guide him. Most business books only focus on the business aspect, but businesses are not one dimensional. Thanks Howard, Joel & Aryeh for telling us this story and letting us share in the journey.
