Wasn't sure what to expect on a $20 keyboard, but this thing is worth every penny and then some. I wanted a low profile keyboard for work, and wasn't looking for something with the dedicated number keys on the side. This keyboard fit the bill perfectly. It honestly feels solidly made, and is the size of an average laptop keyboard, so it is easy and natural to just jump right in and start using. Don't get me wrong, if you are used to using a full size keyboard, you will notice a size difference, but just barely.

I also love the fact that it has an internal battery that can simply be recharged by the included charging cord (same charging cord for most Android based smartphones). Some reviewers said that the keyboard comes fully charged. I did not find that to be the case, although it fully charged in about an hour. In my experience the battery life itself has exceeded my expectations. I've been using it for about 2.5 weeks on the same charge and it is still going strong. It stays on nearly all the time because I almost always forget to turn it off when I leave work.

The tiny rubber pads on the bottom are extremely grippy so if you are worried about the keyboard moving around on you while you type, trust me, it will not. The keys also have a nice, responsive springy feel to them and I haven't had a mistype yet. I didn't check the functionality of every key, but by now I have used almost every single one, and they work perfectly.

I also love the fact that it uses a USB dongle as opposed to bluetooth. I have used bluetooth keyboards in the past which were okay, but always seemed to be finicky, or simply take too long with connecting after turning the keyboard off and on. This keyboard connects instantly, and stays connected.

I am going to be a little nit picky now, and mention a couple of things I would like to be different. Firstly, the power switch location. It is located on the under side of the keyboard. This doesn't really affect the use of the keyboard, as it is a low profile, clicky slider. It seems solid, and doesn't contact the surface of my desk while using the keyboard, but since it is on the bottom, you have to pick up the keyboard and turn it over every time you want to turn the keyboard on or off. This isn't a big deal, and I know it, but I think it would have been much better if the power switch was located either one the side of the keyboard, or along the front edge. Again, nit picky, but still.

The other thing that I cannot wrap my head around is the orientation of the volume keys. The volume decrease key is on the right, and the volume increase is on the left. This is backward from every keyboard I have ever used. This seems like a small discrepancy (and yeah it is), but every time I adjust the volume, I will turn it up when I meant to turn it down or down when I meant to turn it up. Notice the orientation in the included pic.

I feel like I have had a chance to really put this keyboard to the test. The only thing I don't yet know is how long will the battery last. Truthfully, if it died while I am typing this review, I would have no complaints. The charge has lasted for quite a bit of use already (much more than my previous wireless keyboard). The nit picky things I mentioned are just that, and wouldn't make me think twice about buying this keyboard again. It looks great and works perfectly, and I am much more impressed with it than I expected to be.

3.0 out of 5 starsHow to use with Linux (or at least with Peppermint Eight built on Ubuntu 16.04)
Reviewed in the United States on April 20, 2018
*Updated September 26, 2018*

I have mixed feelings about these keyboards. On the one hand for the price they perform remarkably well. However, I have two of these keyboards. As you can see I have done some key mapping in Linux.

Now here's the really weird thing. The two keyboards behave very very differently which attached to the same machine. In other words, when I plug-in keyboard A I get one sort of behavior but then when I shut my system down and plug in keyboard B I get a very different sort of behavior.

Also recently the one keyboard which has the behavior which I prefer has started to act weird. Now when I press the left control key it toggles between muting unmuting the volume. I have no idea why. My other keyboard does not do this. Furthermore the right control key on has started to act weird does not toggle between muting unmuting the volume. I even tried remapping the left control key using xev but that did not work either. In other words it seems like some sort of hardware glitch is causing the problem.

I think I'm just going to go back to a regular wired keyboard. I'm tired of dealing with all of this hassle.

*Original Review*

Thus far, after a couple days of use, this seems like a very nice keyboard. Of course, time will tell how reliable it is.

This keyboard does not officially support Linux. However, I am using it with Linux (Peppermint Eight which is built on Ubuntu 16.04).

I took off two stars to penalize Arteck for their CEO’s remarkable incompetence. Arteck clearly needs a new CEO.

Arteck should have included the following directions here on Amazon to help Linux users. Is Arteck going to ship me out a couple of free keyboards for my efforts on their behalf? I am not holding my breath.

++++++++
!Begin Arteck Keyboard Remapping

!This worked for me in Peppermint Eight (which is built on Ubuntu 16.04). Your mileage may vary. In other words, it might not work for you.

!In Linux open a Terminal (Google "How to open a Terminal in Linux" if you don't know how to do this). Then type in "xev" (no quotation marks, just the three letters). Then press the Enter key. Then press any key on your keyboard. Then look through the jibberish for the "keycode" followed by a number such as "keycode 44" or keycode 58." Ignore the rest of the jibberish.

!Now create a file called: /home/<Your User Name>/.Xmodmap. If you don't know how to create a new file either try "right clicking" in a folder to create a new file in or open your text editor and save a document to /home/<Your User Name>/. Then Name the file ".Xmodmap" The initial "." is necessary but the quotation marks must not be used. Do NOT put anything like ".txt" at the end. This is not Windows folks; it's Linux. Then copy all of the text between the ++++++++ at the top and ++++++++ at the bottom an paste it into “.Xmodmap”

!The blue "Fn" key on your Arteck keyboard must be held down while pressing any of the following F keys. I am probably going to try taping down that key or perhaps even removing it and taping down the little button beneath the key. Yes. I do wish Arteck provided an "Fn enabled by default" switch.

!Fn+F1 is keycode 172
keycode 172 = Home

!Fn+F2 is keycode 173
keycode 173 = End

!Fn+F3 is keycode 171. For now I am not using it.

!Fn+F4 works as a volume up key
!Fn+F5 works as a volume down key
!Fn+F6 works as a mute key

!Fn+F7 is keycode 180
keycode 180 = Page_Up

!Fn+F8 is keycode 225
keycode 225 = Page_Down

!Fn+F11 is keycode 118
keycode 118 = F11

!To complete the process, either log off and log on or restart your computer. The changes above will not be effective until you either log off and log on or restart your computer.

!End Arteck Keyboard Remapping
++++++++

I do wish the keyboard had an Fn lock. See, in Peppermint Eight none of the keys F1 through F9 work nor, strangely, are even identifiable when I run the command "xev" in a terminal and press any of the keys from F1 through F9. Therefore, I now need to press and hold the Fn key before pressing any of the Fkeys. But I am not taking any stars off for that.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite keyboard
Reviewed in the United States on December 9, 2021

I adore this keyboard. I've lost track of how many years I had the predecessor to this one, which was exactly the same from the same company. It survived many hazards before succumbing to yet another water spill. (My bad!) My pc does not support bluetooth, but honestly I'm not blown away by the bluetooth products I've had for my tablet. Really, when it came to needing the replacement, I crossed my fingers and hoped I could get the same one again - and did, this one. So far I have seen no drop in quality despite buying the two many years apart and that being the case for so many products these days. I am very pleased with it. I wish everyone could find a keyboard that serves them as well as this one does me. And if you're going the wireless usb keyboard route, it's likely to be this one or their full size version.

Some points of interest:
* Battery life - I basically never turn it off, use it daily typically hours at a time, and charge maybe once a month. I always charge fully when I do, if you any issues always try charging fully first. (This is true of all rechargables, it's sort of the equivalent of turn off/on again.)
* Size/key spacing - obviously, it's short. But the keys are of a fairly normal size with normal spacing, and flat topped. Good for my small hands and decent for my broad shoulders. I have other keyboards I cannot praise this way.
* Layout - it's a standard qwerty other than being truncated to not have the keypad portion. There is the ability to use Fn+[arrow key] for Home, Page up/down, and End so it does retain those functions if you need them. Again, I have others I cannot praise this way, such as one which insanely moves the position of left ctrl - a breaking issue for a hot key user - again, though, no issue here!
* Responsiveness - occassionally it's a bit, well, sleepy, waking from sleep. Usually happens when logging in for the first time in the day, nothing a quick tap of any key won't fix. Far more real time responsive than any bluetooth device I have ever used, no lag at all once out of sleep.
* Comfort - for regular typing, like I said the spacing is very close to a regular size. For gaming, the arrow keys are only half size, and games which use a wasd + arrows combination can be uncomfortable. That said, most pc games use WASD + mouse where it is no issue.
* Special Functions with [Fn] - Along the F# keys row, there is Media, Play/Pause, Back, Forward, Mute, Quieter, Louder, WebHome, WebSearch, WebBookmarks, Poweroff, Insert, and PrintScreen. There is also the arrow key functions mentioned previously. The order of Play/Back/Forward seems a little strange, but otherwise seems very standard and useful. I don't use most of these except PrintScreen, but I just tested them all and they work as expected.
* Other features - the slight tilt built in is nice. There are some flat grips on the back that prevent it sliding around. It is very portable and the metal back does not add significant weight compared to some of my shorter, plastic bluetooth boards - kind of surprising that they are so similar in weight feel, really. I'd say it's likely far more durable, though I'm not going to stress test it to find out. All around, a very good little keyboard.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is one of the absolute best tech products I've owned!

Rarely do I jump into a review so fast but this product is excellent! First off, Amazon is amazing, for $2.99 I got this shipment the very next day, total wait time from order to use, less than 12 hours. I opened this product and I found the quality, design, and overall presentation to be superb. The size is perfect, it's rechargeable and it fired up immediately. I put it to work within 15 minutes of opening it, with flawless pefrormance. If you're looking for a protable keyboard, buy this one, it's an absolute 9.5 out of ten. The only ".5" finicky desire I would have is for them to quiet the keys a bit more, slightly on the clicky side but nonetheless a nice tactile feel. Very fast and shallow depression response for lightning fast typers.

If you need a compact keyboard, this is an exceptionally good choice -- it's low-priced, very attractively designed, and has all the keys in the right places. A lot of compact keyboards move the right-hand SHIFT key to make room for arrows, but since one uses the shift key while touch-typing, and almost never the arrows (since they're seemingly always in different positions on every keyboard in existence), it makes no sense to mess with the layout of the TYPING keys. This Arteck board has exactly the right layout, and I can type full-speed without looking, which is an absolute requirement for my needs.

A word about the engineering and aesthetics -- this keyboard (I have the black model) is surprisingly attractive. It is super-thin, and the case comprises a subtly curved plastic front (top) layer with the double-shot keys poking through far enough to provide comfortable tactile feedback, and a sleek steel sheet curved up around the case at the bottom, and incorporating a graceful steeper curve at the top to maintain a slight tilt. Four small rubber feet keep it from slipping around, and a small rubber slide switch is provided for power. The overall look and feel is quite beautiful, and it is by far the most attractive keyboard of any size I've owned.

There's a micro-USB charging port on the right edge, but I can't say how long a charge will last, because it's been running on the first charge for over a month now. The lithium-ion battery may not be very big, but the power consumption is also not much, so I don't anticipate having to plug it in more than a couple of times per year. My only concern is that there is clearly no way to replace the built-in battery. Realistically, that's less of a concern then it used to be, since the latest Li-Ion engineering seems to last many years. If it does last, say, 5 years or more (which seems very likely), then replacing it for another $22 in 2025 isn't much of an expense.

5.0 out of 5 stars Second Review ... works perfectly and awesome customer support

This is my second review, just to emphasize that I've never had an issue with "It frequently stalls out." as mentioned by another reviewer. The keyboard always arrives fully charged and I SELDOM need to recharge it; never do I have to use a backup keyboard.

Everyone's results may vary, but this is the best keyboard I've had and I consider buying a few more (!) as backups. They may not last 5 years, but the response from Arteck for any ultimate failure is very satisfactory, and for the price--can't beat it.

Also I mentioned previously about the raised nub on the F and J, and those are more prominent now. Plus, the white lettering does not wear off with HEAVY keyboard use. And, if it slides off your lap, it is sturdy and doesn't fall apart.
V
_______________
My first review is below, but now I just have to say that I had a little problem ... after six months use, and the response from Arteck was IMMEDIATE and CLEAR and satisfied everything I needed.
Amazing. Blown away.
And the keyboard, once I got used to it, so small and tidy and clicky (I'd still like a little background lighted action would be nice) but this is perfect for my needs.
24 month warranty to boot!
Hell, just buy it because the customer support is awesome.

+++++++++++++++++
From just after receiving it:

Perfect little keyboard. Good feel to the keys, little bit more of the clicky sound than I prefer, but it isn't noisier than any others.
Another fine point, as I often work in low-light conditions, I would have just liked the little raised bits on the F and J to be more prominent, or the OPTION to light up the keyboard -- but I'm a touch typist and will just develop more fingertip sensitivity!
Otherwise, it is lightweight. It was charged when arrived and I've just recharged once, all functions easy.
I didn't check about a sleep mode, but if I'm done for a while I just slide the off switch, like I do with my mouse. No problems.

5.0 out of 5 stars The first two keyboards were defective, but the third keyboard works great
Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2018

The keyboard was amazing while it worked. It's compact, it's great to type on, and the metal underside is awesome. I also love how little it moves, due to the rubber strips on the bottom of the keyboard. They're really grippy. But, it completely stopped working after a week of occasional use. I fully charged it, did as much troubleshooting as possible, and even tried to manually pair it to my PC. The keyboard turns on but won't connect at all. I was really bummed out.

Although the keyboard looks and feels fantastic, the durability is questionable. That's the risk you take when you buy from unknown brands.

UPDATE:

After seeing my review, Arteck contacted me and sent me a replacement keyboard. Their customer service team was very friendly and fixed my issue as best as they could. This new keyboard works, but I noticed that sometimes it misses keystrokes, especially with the A-key for some reason. It's an annoying issue that is fixed by typing with a little more force.

I was offered another free replacement. At first I denied this, as this was not only wasteful from both a manufacturing and environmental perspective, but also a bit excessive for such a small issue. As time went on, the missing keystroke issue got worse, and more frustrating. So, I accepted the third keyboard, and shipped the old one back to Arteck for testing.

The third keyboard works great. It still occasionally misses keystrokes (mainly the P-key this time), but WAY less frequently than the last one. This may be due to the wireless connection, as apparently this issue is common with a lot of wireless keyboards. I can live with a few missed keystrokes. It's not like this is a high-end wired, mechanical keyboard anyway.

Aside from that, they even extended my warranty to 3 years! I'm blown away by Arteck's exceptional customer service. I'm glad I went through all of this, because for the price, the keyboard is fantastic. If you have any issues with your keyboard, reach out to them first and they'll make it right.

When I first opened the box for my keyboard, it unfortunately didn't have the USB dongle needed to connect it to my laptop. I emailed the support and they were able to send me a free replacement USB in only 2 days! So far this keyboard feels really nice and I like how the light shows when the caps lock is on. The build is very nice and solid. The keys are fairly quiet and feel soft to the touch. I am very happy with my purchase.

++++++++

++++++++

4.0 out of 5 stars Love this keyboard but limited use

I wanted something lightweight and very thin to put in my laptop bag for my micro desktop. When I travel I take it because I hate laptops. I needed something that would be not so prone to stretching out the outside pocket on my leather fossil laptop bag. I have actually owned three of these. The first I used at my desk and it was fine for that purpose but it moved around too much since it is so lightweight however the upside was I could push it out of the way and almost completely empty up my desk space. The second one I use at my gaming computer on my TV. I don't use the keyboard much since I use a controller however the small thin sizing is perfect to put in the middle console of my loveseat when not in use. The third is in my laptop bag. The one I used on my desk eventually had to be replaced. Stuff got set on top of the keyboard and it didn't take much weight to make the keys stick and be unusable. When I replaced the one on my desk I did not buy the same again for that use. I bought something with more weight and replaceable keys. All that being said, I have never had an issue with the other two. They are perfect for traveling or storing away when not using. Learning that the keys would be so vulnerable, meant I kept the third in the box to put in my laptop bag pocket just for extra protection on the keys. Even the box is thin enough that you can barely see the imprint on the leather bag. These keyboards do have a good use, I just would not recommend them for everyday. When using, the keys are very low profile and make almost no sound. The keyboard is thin and almost weightless. The battery charge lasts a long time. Depending on what you want it for it could be perfect. It is perfect for my other uses and last really nice for the price point so long as the keys are not constantly retaining pressure.

I just purchased this keyboard for the second time. The first one lasted over five years and was a fantastic purchase for $23. The wireless connectivity works great and it holds a charge for a long time. I have gone months at a time without charging it and it pretty much never dies unless you never ever charge it. You can’t go wrong with this keyboard.
