4.0 out of 5 starsIP 6 Qt. Max 6 Is A Good Machine But Not Very Different From IP 6 Qt. Ultra!

The basic upgrade here is the touch screen panel which is simple to use. I like the ability of the Max to go up to between 12 & 15 PSI. There is the heat progression indicator just like the Ultra however, the Max also gives you temperature readings as it's heating. As the unit is building up to pressure, it automatically releases steam in short bursts, unlike the IP Ultra that remains silent during pressurization. Finished cooking results are basically the same with both the Max and Ultra. The only thing I DO NOT like is the steam release after the cooking time is finished. You have 3 options to either do a 1) Natural Release, 2) Intermittent Release , or 3) Immediate Release. All of these must be selected at the control panel. On the Ultra, you have complete control of the steam release by touching the button, and if per chance, you need to stop it, you can simply take your finger off of it. On the Max, you cannot do this! Needless to say that after I prepared Split Pea Soup and chose to release the steam after 15 minutes of NR, I had a volcano of pea soup spewing in all different directions across my kitchen before getting hold of a dish towel to cover the vent. Luckily, I wasn't injured. I just wanted to point this feature out of not having manual control over the steam release on the Max. Other than that, I like the Max, but I still use my IP 6 quart Ultra much more.
