I am not Indian, but was still able to make perfect Idli with this steamer! I tried them at an Indian restaurant and was hooked - but refused to pay $5 for 2 idli... so I got this steamer.
I added a little bit of water to the bottom
as one of the reviewers suggested - and I got perfect idli on my first try - in 4 minutes!
I’ve learned that different Idli mixes and/or adding seasonings/herbs/small pieces of meat or veggies means that they will take longer to steam (an extra 3 or 4 minutes), but still come out perfect! I love that it is so easy to use and clean. It’s also nice to not have to break out the pressure cooker and heat up the house with steam.
The first batch in the pics was plain, and the 2nd had a little MTR Spiced Chutney Powder added in - DELICIOUS!
