I have bought 4 of these, so far. I bought one for myself when my Kuerig died. I refused to buy another and I was sick and tired of paying so much for those earth unfriendly K-Cups. I felt held hostage by the Keurig corporation. It was ridiculously freeing. Now I pay less for a better cup of coffee and don't contribute to the landfill. I love being able to make my own blends with the combination of caffeinated, decaffeinated or flavored coffees of my choice. I love to sprinkle cinnamon or cocoa powder in the grounds and boost the flavor of my coffee. It's very well made. We have used it multiple days for months and it looks brand new. The cleaning brush makes it easy, but really, You can just toss it in the dishwasher. It's also great for loose tea.
That being said, they can be very messy. I recommend setting it in the kitchen sink. I've knocked the whole thing over, more than once, and that is quite a sloppy mess to clean up from the floor, cabinets, counter,...
Why have I bought 4? They make great gifts! We ship them with a bag of local coffee and everyone loves it!

Nice storage feature, but not fine enough - a LOT of coffee sediment passes through

This is a great idea for a pour-over coffee strainer, but as you can see by the pictures, if you use anything less than a medium to course grind, sediment passes through the filter and into your cup. I have a high-quality burr grinder, and I have to set it to the middle of "medium" to reach a grind that doesn't pass through the filter. However, at that course of a grind, the coffee really needs to steep, not pass through, so I end up with watery coffee. Pour-over coffee (or any auto-drip with a cone filter for that matter), should be brewed with "fine" ground coffee. For that reason, I can not recommend this for coffee. However, I have found other uses for it, so I feel It deserves a couple of stars for that (strain pulp and seeds, etc). There are also a couple of other features that I *really* like. First, it is super easy to clean. Other brands that 2 layers of filter tend to get sediment caught between filters (no matter WHAT they claim). The fact that this is single layer means it cleans up easily. Also, the base pops off for easy cleaning and storage. This means it can also be used as a strainer for other items inside of a funnel (e.g.; strain pulp and seeds from lemons). Also, at just over 4", the base is a bit wider than many other brands, which means I *finally* found a filter that works on my funky handmade cappuccino mugs (too bad I end up with a ton of sediment)! The base is also rimmed in silicone, which helps it from slipping. That is a nice feature, but be careful hand drying the base as the silicone rim can pop off rather easily and it is not easy to get back on.

I have been through three of these coffee drippers. All three have driven me a little nuts - they have taken so long to drip through, they get clogged, and by the time you finally get your cup, it's lukewarm. I was initially drawn to this one because it has my initials on it (LHS) but then I saw that it was one layer of mesh instead of the usual two. What a difference! Coffee almost instantly, no clogs, hot coffee, and much easier to clean than the others. Yes there are a few grounds in the bottom of my cup but I solved that problem by not drinking it to the last drop - who cares what Maxwell said? Don't forget to put in about 3 tbl of hot water first to bloom the coffee. Then add the rest, making small circles. It produces delicious, hot, strong coffee (I add 3 level tbl of coffee). From a devoted coffee connosieur - get it!

Probably the most helpful tip I can share about this is to pour the hot water really slowly, or add it just a little at a time. It takes longer but the coffee turns out much better. On the first day, I filled the filter with hot water and it drained through pretty fast and the coffee was really weak. Since then, I have been pouring just a little water, waiting while that drips through, then pouring a little more, letting that drip through, etc. It's time-consuming but the coffee turns out better. I think maybe with the filter completely full, the weight of the water pushes it through faster than if there is only a little bit of water.

Use with paper cone filter for easy cleaning and to avoid muddy coffee

Works well, but needs running water to clean, which means you need a garbage disposal. Banging out used grounds into the trash can doesn't work so well. The coffee is good but a little "muddy" with the metal filter alone. Best solution for me is to use with a 2-4 cup paper cone filter. The filter needs extra folding to make it more pointy, but it works well and coffee this way seems a bit richer than a plastic or ceramic pour-over. It also ends up a bit cooler than solid pour-overs, so drink it right up and don't add too much cold milk. :)
The metal filter alone is sufficient as a backup if you forget to restock paper filters.

Ease of use, cleanup and great tasting coffee.

The reason for which I ordered this isn’t its mainstream purpose. However, I thought it might be a reasonable solution for the occasion when my regular coffee maker pours it’s grinds over the side I could sift the grounds. Although it did the job well, I was ever curious about “pour over coffee”. It seriously tasted better than my coffee pot coffee. It cleans up easily. I laugh, because when I told my husband what it was when he brought it in and opened it, his words were “you’re cleaning up the mess it’s going to make”. As it turns out we were both wrong with the exception about the Pour over coffee dripper—which was a great purchase! The fine mesh is well designed. I love this product.

Some have finer mesh than others

Ordered 2, one works great, the other had almost no flow. Took forever to drain thru. Reviews mentioned this several times. Some had too much flow, some little or none no matter how much cleaning they did.
Compared my two in front of a lamp, see photos. Obvious difference in mesh, one being much finer than the other. That would explain the conflicting reviews. The fine mesh flowed even less with finer coffee grinds down to near nothing. Tried a coarser grind with little change.
Amazon has graciously agreed to a return for a replacement.
Wondered why one of mine arrived opened and without a cleaning brush as was advertised. Looks like it may have been previously returned.

Anyway, barring the mesh issue, these seem to be well made and designed. The bottom plate snaps on and off for easy cleaning and storage. The sides of the funnel are naturally softer and bendable due to the perforations. So some care is necessary not to bend or distort the mesh area. 1 to 4 cup model fits larger cup sizes nicely.
Guess it’s a crap shoot as to what mesh you receive, there doesn’t appear to be any option for that when ordering. Hopefully my replacement will be the coarser mesh!

Best method yet, for me

I've tried French press, siphon, Turkish, coffeemaker, Chemex, percolator, and for the past couple decades I've used a plastic cone with paper filter. This stainless filter is the right combination of the best coffee with the easiest cleanup, and I've just ordered a second one. I can disconnect the base from the cone and throw both pieces in the dishwasher, and I like the taste better than the paper filter. There IS a little sludge in the bottom of the cup--like Turkish coffee, and it doesn't bother me. I do grind my coffee fairly fine and might have less sludge, faster brew, and weaker flavor with a coarser grind. Bonus: the base has big enough holes to look through into the cup as you pour – no lifting the cone a few times to see when the cup is full. I don't find it takes longer to brew a cup than my paper filters.

Really nice and *single-layer*

Best thing about this filter IMHO is that it’s a single layer of stainless steel. Many other metal cone filters have a double layer where the outside is harder metal and the inside is a fine mesh metal screen material... that works fine initially, but over time coffee residue builds up *between* the layers and clogs up the overall functionality (nothing can clean it out either... not dishwasher, not scrubbing, not soaking). This LHS filter, on the other hand, uses one solid layer and it rinses out wonderfully, no trapped residue.

pretty decent beginner pour over filter for a coffee lover

I've used coffee machine and french press for a long time, but thought i'd try out a pour over filter. I purchased a different "hario style" filter in the past, but I thought I'd try a stainless steel one. I've had this for about 3 months and I use this at least 1-3 times a week with my gooseneck kettle.

Here are my two cents on the item:

1. stainless steel - best part of it. sturdy construction that produces consistent results. you can use it without a paper filter and it'll work great.

2. construction - a two-piece filter & stand. easy to handle and use, i wish the stand is more stable and heavier, but it does not affect usage. one should be careful that the joint connectors are not bent during use.

3. filter - there are two observations about the filter itself.

a. it is good at catching the fine grinds, but does not catch them all - some residue do sip through but not enough to ruin the coffee taste. this may not be an issue with the filter, but more related to how fine the grounds; finer will sip through a bit but coarser grounds will be fine. When I use a prepackaged grounds purchased from a store, it will often result in some residue.

b. this filter catches the water very well. the water does not sip through the side of the filter, results in diluting the coffee flavor. all of the water poured into the filter will flow down the tip and contribute to the brewing.

one more note about the filter itself - if you use without the paper filter, the end result coffee will look "oily", this is a natural process, not a problem of the design. The oiliness is due to the oil in the coffee bean being extracted by the hot water during roasting process. If you use a paper filter, the paper will filter usually absorbs all the oil.

4. easy to clean - a couple of dumps will get rid almost all of the grounds. The included brush works amazingly well when you use warm water with a bit of dish soap.

overall I do like and enjoy this filter, and it produces good (but not great) tastes of coffee. Some may have complained that the draining took too long - i disagree respectfully. A pour over is meant to slow drain so it has time to brew the coffee grounds. I have another ceramic filter (hario style) that took even longer to drain. using a pour over is almost like a fine art, where a combination of your filter, hot water, coffee grounds, gooseneck kettle, and hand movement, all contribute to a better tasting and enjoyable coffee.
