5.0 out of 5 starsA fantastic 35mm lens
Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2022
This is one great lens.
I shoot family portraits and weddings for a living. I can use this on the Family portraits on my Nikon Z6 and it is a very sharp lens with good contrast and fast focus.
I use a 85mm Z on my second Z6 on portraits for a two camera setup.
The 35mm for the group photos and the 85mm for the single and two people photos.

3.0 out of 5 starsOverpriced for a 1.8 lens; not a great fit on the new Nikon Z F....
Reviewed in the United States on October 30, 2023
I was hoping this would be a good lens for the new Nikon Z F camera, but the lens is surprisingly large for a 1.8 aperture design. It is roughly 3.5" from the mount, more with the hood attached. The lens has good IQ in terms of sharpness but its rendering seems a bit "clinical." I regard the price of over $750 to be excessive for the lens as well, especially because it doesn't have a mechanical aperture ring or the solid feel of metal constructed lenses.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Lens, but not for me

I was wanting this lens for my kit b/c I love all of my other Nikon lens' so much, this would be a good emergency lowlight goto. The build quality is what I expected. The focusing was sluggish compared to the better lens', but acceptable. Image quality was very good. However, the focusing motor is a little too loud for my needs, it is NOT completely silent as everyone says, so just be aware. If you need a totally silent focusing lens, you're going to have to fork over the big bucks for the f1.2... Whenever the hell Nikon finally gives us one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Is there some sort of trick to the auto focus?
Reviewed in the United States on January 6, 2021

I've had this lens before for my previous camera and I loved it because it could focus on a subject and make the background blurry. On the Z6 it doesn't seem to AF on a subject within 4 ft of me. I will give a better review if anyone could offer some tips? I've looked at tutorials and no luck. It might just not be the lens I was hoping for. when it does focus however the photos look great! it's just annoying that I have to manually do it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 17, 2021

I was looking forward to having this lens in my hand based on the reviews that I had read around the internet. However, when I receive it, it was a full disappointment on a Z5. Not sharp as I expected to be!! And it had a very-very soft contrast!
Nothing in common with the reviews, photo samples and youtube videos that I had look at before I proceed with the purchase of this lens.
Unfortunately, except for the kit Z 24-50 and some vintage M42 lens that I use with an adapter on the Z5, I had not something else as a comparison point. So, compared to the few lens I have, it was still the softest one. It was something I couldn't believe and accept. I changed my camera settings picture profiles among "standard", "vivid", "neutral" etc, I changed focus settings as well, but still nothing changed. The lens was still soft.
I had a look on some photos taken with my Nikon D3300 and the 35mm 1.8G, and those photos still looked better in terms of sharpness and colour contrast than the photos taken with the Z5 and the Nikkor Z 50 1.8S.
It was probably from a bad batch what I received? I don't know! It is just the Z5 camera that takes such photos? (I don't think so because still a helios m44 had better contrast).
I love Amazon and thanks for giving me the option to return and refund me! At least I saved my money.
If anyone else has an experience of this lens on a Z5, just leave a comment. I will either re-buy this lens (just in case it was just a bad batch) or I will sell my Z5 as the results completely disappointed me.

3.0 out of 5 stars Viel Licht aber auch Schatten

Hallo,

3.0 out of 5 stars Loud AF

My F mount SWF lenses from Nikon are literally silent. This lens on the other hand has the noisiest AF motor I've ever heard. Nikon are phoning it in as of late. I had to upgrade to mirrorless - I was torn between them and Sony.

I think I made the wrong decision.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nicht wie erwartet - lauter Autofokus und geringere Schärfe
Reviewed in Germany on January 28, 2020
Style: 35mm f1.8 SVerified Purchase
