A fantastic 35mm lens

This is one great lens.
I shoot family portraits and weddings for a living. I can use this on the Family portraits on my Nikon Z6 and it is a very sharp lens with good contrast and fast focus.
I use a 85mm Z on my second Z6 on portraits for a two camera setup.
The 35mm for the group photos and the 85mm for the single and two people photos.

Overpriced for a 1.8 lens; not a great fit on the new Nikon Z F....

I was hoping this would be a good lens for the new Nikon Z F camera, but the lens is surprisingly large for a 1.8 aperture design. It is roughly 3.5" from the mount, more with the hood attached. The lens has good IQ in terms of sharpness but its rendering seems a bit "clinical." I regard the price of over $750 to be excessive for the lens as well, especially because it doesn't have a mechanical aperture ring or the solid feel of metal constructed lenses.

+ excellent image quality
+ very sharp, low distortion
+ fast and accurate AF

- not the 'feel' of a 1.4, let alone a Leica lens...

It's a quite big, but light and well built 35mm than can cope with the sensor res of the Z7.
(My AF-S 35/1.4 only delivers around 28MP, hence doesn't do on the Z7).

What I would have hoped for is a 1.4 version that would get closer to (but probably never reach) my Leica Summilux 35.
Overall, more versatile than the 50mm (which is also awesome).

Super sharp. Great bokeh, beautiful colour rendition. There is something special about this lens. I’ve had this for approx four months to compare against the 50mm and now the 20mm Z lenses on my Z7.
I’m am now of the clear belief that the 35mm is the sharpest of the Z prime range.

The Nikon 85mm 1.8 is a great lens...especially for the price. It was much better to get this lens than the 85mm 1.2 that cost over 3 times the price. I have all the 1.8 S line lens for the Z mounts.

Spectacularly sharp images

The images made with this lens came out spectacularly sharp. I use the lens mostly for video and for video it's fast, silent and has nice bokeh. When I use it for photography I can zoom in endlessly and it's amazingly sharp. Best lens I ever bought.

This native lens is a winner. Fantastic color saturation, nice contrast, and it’s sharp corner to corner. Weather sealing is second to none and it’s a very light lens. Build quality is superb. Would be nice to get a native pancake lens Nikon. Wishful thinking.

F/4 = limited for shallow dof and low light however I knew going in to this that I usually shoot at higher f stops with wide lenses anyway so the size, weight and flat front all made me pick this lens. It’s sharp fast focusing and minimal distortion even at 14mm.

This is my first 35mm focal length prime. I find this lens very versatile and fun to use. The focus is snappy and the colors and contrast are wonderful. The size is just fine for walking around for long periods of time with it. It even fits in my jacket pocket while on the camera. I got it during the holiday specials so it was lower cost than usual.
