The fourth book (each reads as a stand-alone) in the Hard n’ Dirty series is a scorcher! The story is a reckoning with the past and acceptance of the present. The chemistry between Blaze and Lia sizzles off the pages. The story is a forbidden romance, two people working together, he is the Captain, and she works under him. All the speeches he gave to the other firemen on the team go out the window for himself.
Lia Burke is the only female in the firehouse, and it has mixed emotions with the men. She is more than capable of doing the job, and in some ways, proves her size as an advantage. She doesn’t ask for special treatment. Actually, she prefers to be treated as just one of the guys. Being the youngest child and the only girl, with four brothers that are all cops, Lia always had a passion for fire. But that passion and obsession had its downside too, one she has to live with shamefully. Lia uses lighting matches and watching them burn as stress relief.
“I’m here because I have twin needs that will never be quenched: Fire And Atonement.”
Captain Ted “Blaze” MacKenzie is a dominant man, a known harda**, but someone that has garnered respect. When Lia starts working at his station, he remembers her and her family from when he was younger and worked at another firehouse, one responding to a house fire that was set in the girl's bedroom. There is just this innate desire to protect Lia, and that includes from herself. But who is going to protect her from him?
“This firehouse is a strict no-fraternizing zone.”
The plot will have Lia joining what had been an all-male firehouse. She does what she can to get along and have the others respect her. Blaze and the others have noticed the way she likes to light matches and let them burn down to her fingertips, and the guys dub her Sparks. But then Blaze smells the sulfur from her lighting matches in her room and barges in catching her in her underwear, silky, non-cotton and unsafe. What starts out as a verbal reprimand becomes physical, and the sexual chemistry is explosive, and this will be the beginning of their forbidden romance. He will have her report to his home where he will punish her, and she is a masochist to his sadistic and controlling nature, and then she calls him Daddy. It’s like throwing gasoline on a raging fire for both of them.
“Everything about the scene is beautiful and deep. It cuts right to the heart of who I am. What I need. I’m slightly embarrassed now about how freaking intimate we just got. I feel like my packaging has been ripped open and my real self is spilling out all over him.”
Working fires proves that being raised as the daughter and sister of cops has certain abilities to notice things, and during multiple empty building arson fires, she determines who and finds the suspect. Blaze isn’t too happy with her doing investigations at the scenes and even chasing after the suspect. Something has to give for them to be able to continue their relationship before others find out. Is having her enter the Fire Inspector program the answer? But what happens when Blaze does things without talking to her first? Is his hero complex in rescuing others letting her believe she is just another damsel in distress then he will move on to the next one?
“She couldn’t have faked what we had in bed. And clarity comes seeping in. That’s where I went wrong. I took something that she enjoyed sexually—being submissive, calling me daddy, letting me call the shots—and I took it out of the bedroom. Into real life. And in doing so, I stripped her of her dignity. And the worst part is it made her question my motives for everything. She thinks I see her as less-than when she’s anything but.”
The story is a beautiful and explosive D/s forbidden relationship. Blaze is a Dom and Lia gives up her submission freely, embracing everything he does to her as if she was born to serve him. The story has age-play talk with her calling him Daddy and BDSM scenarios. It has erotically explicit sex scenes with spankings, corner-time, and bondage.
When you combine a Pyro turn firefighter and a demanding captain that loves kink what could go wrong? Lia loves everything about fire and she has a hard road ahead of her when joining the NYFD. No one wants to curb their tongue have an a woman on the force but the captain sets down the law. Blaze places a strict no fraternizing zone on the firehouse, too bad he didn’t follow those instructions himself. He takes it upon himself to punish her for her past so that she can let it go. This is a kinky story that sets the pages ablaze. I can’t wait to read more of this series!
Gotta love a hot alpha male fireman, and a strong female trying to give back for something that happened in her childhood. This is one story that will tug at your heartstrings, it was one fantastic read, with great characters and an interesting storyline. I thoroughly enjoyed it, this was a cover to cover non-stop read for me, I couldn't put it down, it kept my interest right from the start. This is one book you won't want to miss.
Blaze and Lia are on FIRE (sorry I couldn't resist)! I adored these characters, their innate kinks work for both of them, some daddy play along with some smoking hot sex scenes. A great story-line, with Lia feeling guilt for a mistake she made when she was young and Blaze coming to her rescue. Wonderful writing and characters. I absolutely loved this book! Great story Renee Rose!
This was a very hot story to read. The chemistry between Blaze and Lia is out of control. She's a firefighter and he is her Captain. Together they combust and the sexual heat is enough to make you need a fan close by, along with some ice water. I couldn't put the book down once I started it and I bet you won't be able to either. Renee Rose has written another awesome book.
Overall I really enjoyed this book. I definitely appreciated the humor! The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was because I felt it was a bit of a rushed ending I would have liked if it was a chapter or two longer. Definitely recommend!
I loved Blaze and Lia's story. The chemistry between these two is hotter than the fires they put out. This is my first book by this author and I love her writing and can't wait to read more of her books. Everyone needs to read this story, I loved it and highly recommend this author.
Lia has waited 8 years to become a firefighter. Her brothers are all cops. Lia has a secret. Blaze is the no nonsense dominant Chief of her firehouse. He knows what her secret is. Can he help overcome her fears, can they keep the chemistry between them under control? There are some fun loving moments and some thumps of the heart. All in all, I love their story and I would Definitely recommend.
