Don't do large data transfers
December 25, 2018
I use this as my main drive in a new stx system I just built, the drive seems speedy from benchmarks and just seems fast from normal browsing, and such. (This is a fast system, but not built for gamming)
I decided to do a 200 plus gigabyte transfer from another ssd in the system, and at first the write speeds were over 400 MB a second, then it slowed down to 200 MB a second, then 100, 78, 36, 15kb, then 0 and sat there for what seemed to be about 5 seconds or so, then started to transfer data again, it did this several times.
I ran ATTO and it showed the speeds were about as fast as normal SATA ssd
I shut the system down and went into the bios and reset it thinking it may have been something I had changed, reboot and back into windows did a black magic disk speed test all looked good speeds were where they should have been 1540/1780, then I did the same large 200GB Plus test and BAM! SAME THING! Slowdown to zero and sit about 5 seconds later begin to transfer.
Shutdown the system restart system and speeds are back to normal.
I think its buffer cache gets full and it bogs the ssd down
Your results might vary from mine, try it and see.
I'm waiting on a response from Crucial, as I wrote asking them if this was a defective drive.
I'll update this when I get a response from Crucial.
