5.0 out of 5 starsAKASO V50 Elite delivers an outstanding feature set and image quality for the Price

The best GoPro cameras cost plenty, and there's a lot of competition from less expensive brands like Akaso. This camera has everything that you can get on the Highest End GoPro camera, and in my opinion is the best action camera you can get right now for the money.

Excellent JPG and RAW photos. This camera captures great 4K video, and it supports quite a number of video resolutions; 4K/60fps, 4K/30fps, 2.7K/60fps, 2.7K/30fps, 1080p/120fps and 720p/240fps video. It captures 20MP still images, both in JPEG and RAW, and the results are excellent in good light with great detail captured. This camera is able to capture the highest resolution combined with the highest frame rate that I have ever seen in an action camera, 4K at 60 frames per second is able to record fast-moving action in very clear and crisp quality.

Great Wireless Remote Control where you can place the remote control on your wrist and acquire ultra-convenient control for hiking, biking, skiing, bungee jumping and more. Be cautious though and remember that Remote is not waterproof. The camera also supports Voice Control to start and stop recording, or to take a still image.

The Built-in Advanced Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) enables your V50 Elite action camera to deliver steady and smooth videos in shooting fast-moving objects. It's not available in the higher end of the display resolutions, but produces superb stabilization at the supported resolutions.

There seem to be an endless number of mounts provided with the camera and then for $30.00 more, I purchased the NEEWER 50 in 1 Action Camera Accessory Kit, but probably didn't need it, as the camera itself came with most of the necessary mounts.

The camera comes with two 1,050mAh batteries and a dual USB charger. That’s something so few action camera-makers think of, and most users need, as I didn't read the "Whats in the Box" and automatically ordered the accessory dual battery pack with another USB Charger, so now I have four 1050mAh batteries.

3.0 out of 5 starsA phenomenal alternative for vloggers to the name-brand one!
Reviewed in the United States on November 22, 2020
*Please see the edit at the bottom for the reason for my lower-starred review*
I film DIY car repair videos and needed a camera that could survive a fall or two and, if not, be cost-effective enough to be replaceable. So far, I’ve been very impressed.
[Features] – You have a slew of resolution options depending on what you’re filming. Positives on that are you can make a great looking video, or film a very long time on the same card.
Akaso gives you the option to use h.264 or h.265 codecs to work with your favorite video editors/system capabilities.
Time-lapse and loop recording are also there, but I have no use for them so I can’t comment on how well they perform.
[Image Quality] – So far, the V50 Elite has gone above my expectations for video quality. I’m normally filming in a moderately well-lit garage where the V50 Elite has been able to film in those conditions. I only have to add extra lighting when I’m under the car or in a low corner of the engine bay. I film in 1080 @ 30 FPS as I don’t need any higher as I’ve found that higher resolutions make the video size insane. Also, filming at 1080 and higher resolutions only allow you to film in 8- 40 minute “Blocks” of video at a time, which makes editing the end product more time-intensive. For me, this is the only major downfall of this camera.
[Image Stabilization] – What can I say, it works as advertised. I’m able to hand-hold the camera for close-ups of components with fantastic results. Still not as good as a gimbal, but there are many places on a car where a gimbal just won't fit. The drawback to Akaso’s stabilization is that it will only work in the wide-angle setting and won’t work in 4K / 60FPS, 2.7K / 60FPS, 1080P / 120FPS and all 720P quality settings. Definitely something to keep in mind. I really wish stabilization was there for the 720p modes for those who don’t need a crazy resolution for their videos.
[Ease of use] – Since it is a touchscreen camera, accessing menus and changing settings is very intuitive. The front button is your power button and the top is start/stop. Pretty easy. There is also a Bluetooth remote for start/stop and photos that I use to start my videos with success so far. There is WIFI as well for media transfer, which is great for on the go, but too slow for large videos. I use it more to frame shots than media review anyway.
[Microphone] – This seems to be good or terrible, depending on the review. I thought this was going to be a weak point for me as well but I’ve been pleasantly surprised at the clarity. I use the camera without a case and I’m usually 3 – 10 feet away from the camera and have yet to have any issues with my voice being too low, dropout, or noise when it’s solid mounted. If the camera is on a motorized gimbal it will pick up the noise of the motors, unless you are able to tune motor force on whichever gimbal you’re using.
[Accessories] – Akaso gives you so many mount options and a water-resistant case for the V50 Elite that you’ll be able to mount it to almost anything short of a wild animal. You also have the Bluetooth remote with voice commands.

[The bad] –
1. Image stabilization not available in all modes and resolutions.
2. Higher resolution videos are split into “blocks” instead of being continuously captured. I have no idea why this is the standard. It makes editing a chore.
3. Battery life is not great for longer videos. For 1080p @ 30FPS I only get 1.5 to 1.75 hours of record time before the battery dies. On the flip side, you do get two batteries and a charger that can charge both batteries at the same time.

[Value] – A camera like this for under $150 is amazing in my opinion. You get great options on a touchscreen camera with 4K resolution and enough options to adapt to most film needs.

***EDIT***
After leaving my honest, 4-star review I was contacted by Akaso via email with an obvious cut & paste template stating they had a meeting to address my concerns and will make future products better. There was nothing specific about my concerns or how they thought they could improve. Their email was a literal bribe in an attempt to coerce me into dis-honestly raising my review to a 5-star rating. This tells me a lot about this company and makes me believe a lot of these 5-star reviews are false and has destroyed my trust in this company. I hope potential customers find this useful feedback before they support this company.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value for the price.

This is my first camera of this type. I bike, kayak and off-road, so this camera will definitely come in handy. There was no way I was paying GoPro prices as I will only use the camera for personal use on a limited basis.

My first impression of the camera is very positive. It has plenty of features and the image quality is very good, in bright light. The kit comes with a lot of good accessories. I already have a mini tri-pod for my webcam that I can use, but it would be nice if it came with a mini tripod. With the money saved buying this camera, there are plenty of options for accessories, including extra batteries.

I purchased a 128 GB mini-SD card even though the manual lists 32 & 64 GB cards are compatible. The camera recognized it and formatted it without issue. The 128 GB card allows for about 4 hours of video at 4k30fps.

The not so great - the camera is only so so in low light situations. I don't plan to use it often in those situations and I knew this before purchasing. So not a deal breaker.

One issue that is a pain, on one kayaking trip where temps were in the upper 90s, the camera shutdown because it got too hot. Understandable, but the only way to get it to come back on after it cooled down was to remove the battery and miniSD card and hook up a USB cable with 5 Watts and 2 Amps power source. The camera came right on and I was able to reinstall the battery and miniSD card. Although also not a deal breaker, I need to remember to bring a portable charge that can charge at those specs in case the camera overheats again.

All in all, it is a great buy. It was priced at $140, but has a $25 off coupon when I bought it. It's a really nice camera that really captures the great moments when our in nature.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Camera at a very good price point.

This is a review for the new AKASO V50 Elite 2018 model. For those looking for a good action camera you can hardly go wrong with this as it has most of the functions you need and want in a budget friendly camera. Let me be clear, GoPro makes a fantastic camera. Compared to the V50 Elite I think the GoPro 6/7 has better video and better audio and it’s waterproof without any external cases. With that being said, is the video and audio from the GoPro three times better than V50 elite? If you can live with a camera that needs an external case to be waterproof and has very good but not mind blowing video quality, then this is probably the camera for you. So for this review, I will not compare it to the GoPro Black 7, because that camera is in a different market for different buyers. Instead I will compare it to the 2017 V50 Pro.

Maybe if I were a pro athlete needing the absolute best video and video quality for social media, then I would spend the $400 or so for a GoPro 7 but for a fraction of the price you can get away with the slightly lower quality video and audio and not notice. Set the camera to 4K and 60 fps and you will get very good video quality with smooth recording and playback. Image stabilization was a feature introduced in last year’s V50 Pro 2017 model (which I also own) and it makes a return in this year’s model with good results. It helps stop some of the jittery video if you make a lot of tiny fast or twitchy movements during recording. However the feature is no match for a good gimbal, but pair it with one and you will have super smooth video.

For testing, I recorded the same objects/subjects using the 2018 V50 Elite mounted side by side with my 2017 V50 Pro. Both used the same memory cards with the factory camera case, and both set to their max 4k video settings. Camera setup is easy but unfortunately It doesn’t use a touch screen and you have to use the buttons to change settings. It comes with pretty much the same remote as last year, and you get a charger and two batteries that are interchangeable with last year’s. It also comes with an impressive amount of mounting clips and parts to help you mount the camera.

The 2018 Elite was set to its max 4k 60 FPS and the 2017 V50 Pro was set to its max 4k 30 FPS setting. They were mounted to the same block when recording so that I could accurately compare video and I couldn’t say that camera angles or different video could cloud my judgement. I watched all videos on the same 4k TV.

What I saw was that the video quality of the 2018 Elite is slightly better than that of the 2017 Pro. It is smoother than the Pro, and the colors were much more vibrant and popped on my screen more so than the 2017 Pro. However there were some videos that didn’t seem that different and I was hard pressed to tell a majorly discernible difference between the two. To me, the biggest difference between the two cameras is the color reproduction. Like I mentioned earlier, the colors are simply better on the 2018 Elite, and even watching the same video recording from two different cameras, I could tell which camera shot which footage by the difference in colors. They just seem to be more vibrant. I would never have noticed the difference if I didn’t see the footage from the 2018 Elite. So bottom line, the video recording is better with the 4k and 60 FPS Elite V50, the colors are better. If you have the choice between the Elite and last year’s Pro, its an easy decision. I liked the 2017 Pro, but the slightly better video and the better color reproduction of the 2018 Elite makes it a better choice if you need an action camera and do not yet have one.

If you already own the 2017 Pro and are thinking about upgrading to the 2018 model, then I would say hold off on that. While the video and color are better, I don’t know if it’s worth the cost for a slight upgrade. I would wait until the 2019 version to see what upgrades they have in store. I was hoping for a waterproof camera like the GoPro that didn’t need the clear plastic case, but sadly the V50 still requires an external case. Also, the 2018 V50 Elite requires a memory card that can keep up with 4k video. I used a generic class 10 MicroSD card rated for 4k, but the AKASO would shut off after 5-10 seconds of recording. I thought that the camera was defective so when I contacted AKASO, they let me know that they recommended cards like the Samsung that was truly rated for 4k UHD recording. Once I replaced my generic with a genuine class 10 Samsung EVO with 90mb/s write speed the camera stopped shutting off. Unfortunately both cameras have almost completely muted audio when mounted in their cases. Underwater or shooting on dry land the cases protect the cameras from the elements but also effectively mute the mic so you can barely hear any audio of any kind. Maybe AKASO can fix the audio for 2019. In order to hear anything you need to record outside of the case.

So to recap: the video and colors are better on the 2018 V50 Elite compared to the 2017 V50 Pro. Its smoother and the colors are noticeably better. Its not quite the same quality as the GoPro 7 Black, but its close. You need a MicroSD card capable of 4k UHD recording at 90mb/s or the camera will shut off. The 2017 V50 didn’t have that problem, but then again the video is slightly less impressive. When used in the waterproof case, both cameras will barely be able to pick up audio. If you can live with these small issues and you don’t already own a 2017 V50 Pro and you don’t want or need to spend $400 on an action camera then you would do yourself a favor and buy this camera. Based on value and bang for the buck its easily a 4 star item. If then can make this camera with a touch screen, and make it waterproof without a case like the GoPro then this becomes an immediate 5 star buy, especially at its price point.

GoPro is the name everyone knows in the action cam category, but the Akaso V50 Elite is a legitimate contender in terms of quality and when price is factored in, a tremendous bargain. I took the Akaso with me to Iceland where it was subjected to extreme conditions and it worked without a hitch. The 4k video quality was excellent and battery life was remarkable in in freezing conditions and under near freezing water for extended periods of time. The fact that this little camera is so much cheaper than the GoPro and still delivers legit video makes it my action cam of choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars the better budget choice

its good for what you need it for. accessories are pretty limited to only akaso brand accessories. 3rd party accessories are very limited compared to DJI and GoPro. i have taken the camera underwater and on motorcycle here is what i learned.

the app is horrible. it works when its on and you do nothing else on your phone. when you switch to another app or hit home to check messages perhaps the app will perhaps shut down the connection to the camera and you don't know this unless your looking at phone screen app or cam screen. this could devastatingly cut your recording at a critical time. i dont have power saver on or any app killers. its got free reign over my phone so i don't understand why it will just drop the connection. the camera could benefit from bluetooth input for a "viewless" but more seemless connection that doesn't use wifi. i don't use the app much honestly. its undependable unless i do literally nothing else except exclusively record.

the accessories work great. no problems there. any add ons come in bundles though so you will have to spend money on the things you like with extras you didnt want.

the battery life is meh. 12 minutes of a motorcycle ride drained a full battery on full 4k 60fps with a supported 4k memory card (this matters) by about 33 percent approximately. you can only see this on app. which also drains the battery faster with wifi on. so you get about perhaps 35 mins at full battery charge. you don't get any audio alerts to this on app or camera. you can connect a micro usb powerbank to it and record for longer or just buy more batteries. you get two batteries in the box so about an hour total of record time right out the box.

the footage and pics look great. no concerns there. you will be happy with it UNLESS YOU WANT IT FOR NIGHT FOOTAGE. it is weak at night. even in night mode its hard to make anything out not for it being blurry but it being too dark. i could make out license plates at times but basically no building outlines in riding footage. this might be a deal breaker for you if you need nighttime footage. i will update if i find a particular setting that helps this but so far its pretty meh at night.

for the price on an entry level action camera this works but leaves you wanting more. really depends on your needs. 4k at 60fps is hard to find at this price. if like me you want it for commuting to and from work on motorcycle and maybe an occasional outing this could be for you. for more professional use, some extra accessories and preparation could deal with its shortcomings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this camera!! So glad I bought it!!

SHORT REVIEW: I really love this little camera! I used it for 3 weeks in numerous locations throughout the Carribean. The pictures this camera takes are excellent! The videos are great too! You won't be disappointed. (Just remember it is a $140 compact camera. It's not a $1000 professional camera with a $3000 lens nor will it make you a sandwich.) Buy one and then get an accessories pack for like $20 off of Amazon and you will be set for any kind of filming you can think of.

LONG REVIEW:
I love this ELITE. My last camera was an Akaso 4K Ultra HD which I misplaced so I ordered this one for my upcoming vacation, for snorkeling and scuba diving video and photos. I then found my old 4K Ultra HD camera. So I did side by side comparison tests. After comparing the two cameras, I was very happy that I purchased the ELITE!
Side by side comparisons the ELITE blows the 4k Ultra away for many reasons, but a few are far better resolution, touchscreen, quality of materials, additional features on the ELITE.

Lets look at a few aspects of this mini camera.

VIDEO QUALITY:
- (OUTSIDE OF WATER USE and not in an external hard card) - was excellent! I have some amazing video of Pearl Island and Puerto Rico that turned out beautifully. The video quality went above and beyond my expectations.

- (BELOW WATER & in a waterproof hard case) - was excellent as well. The video came out beautifully, where there was ample sunlight and minimal sediment stirred up in the ocean. I got some brilliant video of gorgeous marine life swimming all around. I am SO GLAD that I purchased this camera and had it with me. I have video that I will look at again and again.

PHOTO QUALITY - excellent! I took some amazing photos on beaches in St Kitts and on Half Moon key that are just spectacular! Like I was blown away with the beautiful pictures. It really beat my initially low expectations. (Reminder the photos are not 16:9 they are rounded.)

SOUND QUALITY:
- (outside of water use and not in an external hard card) - was surprising great. Who would have quessed that such tiny microphones could pick up such excellent quality sound. I was shocked!! Now, this is not an audiophile's level of expectation, it is just some dude marveling at how good the camera's microphones worked, keeping a realistic expectation in mind.

- (below water & in a waterproof hard case) - was such a pleasant surprise! Even in the waterproof hard case the microphones still picks up sound. You can hear the noise of the waves. I could hear music when coming in close contact with it or people, etc.
I was amazed that even in the hard case this camera could still record sound as well as it did.

TOUCHSCREEN:
I love the touchscreen. It saves so much time making one able to do quick adjustments without having to just use the up and down arrow on the side of the camera. You can do quick editing, change the video or photo quality, even do special effects adjustments so fast...and then be right back to videoing.

AKASO APP for phone/tablet/pc:
The Akaso App for my phone/tablet worked great! I love that I could edit and record using my phone or tablet's screen which is so much easier to see and do editing on considerably larger screens. It also allowed me to show others my photos and videos on a much larger screen. I could even download the photos and videos right on to my phone or tablet for back-up / redundancy purposes. Awesome!!

CASING:
I like how the ELITE has a rubberized texture to the case which provided a slip-free surface. These cameras are small and I have big hands. I was able to hold this camera and it wasn't slippery to hold unlike the 4K ULTRA with its hard plastic shell.

There are many more features that I have not described and as I use this more will share my findings as I am able.

Enjoy this camera and make many wonderful and lasting memories with it.
God bless!

4.0 out of 5 stars Delivers an outstanding feature set and image quality for the Price

I recently purchased this action camera for my scuba diving adventures in Puget Sound, and it has exceeded my expectations in many ways. As someone who dives four times a week, I need a camera that can keep up with my lifestyle, and this camera has done that.
The picture quality has been good for the cost. It captures the underwater world in vibrant colors and crisp detail, making every dive an opportunity to document the stunning marine life in all its glory. Every video I've taken has truly reflected the beauty I see underwater.

Another standout feature is the battery life. It's simply incredible! I can go multiple dives without worrying about the camera dying on me. This has been a game changer, as it means I can focus more on my diving and less on battery conservation.

However, no product is without its flaws. The one area where this camera could improve is the size of its buttons. While they function well, I find operating with dry gloves on challenging them. A little more size to the buttons would make it easier to use underwater, especially when dexterity is limited by diving gear.

Overall, this action camera is a reliable, high-quality choice for any scuba diver or underwater enthusiast. It delivers where it matters most - capturing and preserving your underwater experiences with outstanding clarity and ease. Despite the minor button size issue, I highly recommend it to fellow divers.

Happy diving!

Want to give it 5 stars. I'm doing an upside down mounted camera under my bike seat on my electric "ebimotorcycle" contraption that goes 70ish and is costing around $10K now. This thing has everything, it's insane.

I thoroughly compared this to a Hero 9 black, and unless you really want a gopro and its ecosystem, this is the better camera, at least for specific uses, all of these action cameras work differently. This one works better than the hero 9, with fewer but good options.

I thought what I did may be helpful to people so I came back around half a year after purchase to leave a review and also a quick "how to" to help out anyone trying to do something similar. This solution is the result of at least 15hrs of playing with various adapters, cards, cables, etc, which I also had to buy for this purpose, costing me around $400 to figure out what only took about $100 then send everything else back with wonderful ole amazon prime.

Anyway, I decided to do a rear 4k facing camera that displayed to a 4k screen mounted on the handle bars of my bike, with a wide field of view like 165-175 degrees, as a complete view behind me along with side mirrors. engineering constraints: I wanted the largest screen which made the most sense for spacing and I wanted full 4k from camera to screen with no compression or conversions and the camera was to be mounted under the seat using the framing of the seat and a "bike seat gopro mount," which meant it was upside down which introduces a problem with image rotation. NONE of the available action cams, in early '21 anyway, can live stream anything beyond 1080p over WIFI, so just know that is out. The hero 9 does not have HDMI out, this cam does. hero9, you have to use gopro's media mod if you want HDMI, and you can't use a usbc to HDMI cable or adapter, they block it. with the media mod and HDMI hooked up, you have to click 5-6 times on the camera to display a clean view HDMI signal, which is fine if you're occasionally setting it up, but I want it to work at power on. This v50 elite with HDMI and micro usb connected, it automatically powers on when power is applied to the usb cable I leave plugged in, like I want, and it AUTOMATICALLY displays a clean view HDMI signal when it detects the cable.

I then feed that 4k 60fps hdmi into a "cam link 4k capture card", then with a usbA3.0 to usbA3.0 cable into an OTG
to usbc cable, then into a Sony Xperia 1 which has a 6.5" 4k width screen, it does sacrifice height for size and in a rear view case, height isn't important. it doesn't matter anyway because the app takes care of that. That phone is the only 4k screen under 11", in addition to the xperia xz premium which is true 4k but a smaller screen and more bezel, so worse for my use. i also bought both phones to test for this. these are both "mark i" phones the "mark ii" versions are being release this year, but are not necessary when you just need the screen, but also get the entire phone.

using this v50 elite, a 4k60hz capable micro hdmi to hdmi cable, 4k60hz capable capture card, 4k60hz capable male usbA3.0 to usbA3.0 cable, AND a 4k60hz capable OTG adapter along with an app called "endoscope HD camera," "OTG Camera" once its installed, and the following slight modification, and you get automatic, full clean view 4k.
This may be for my capture card, not all:
The only bit of additional work that is required for a fully automated setup, is that you have to use that usb cable to plug the capture card to the OTG adapter instead of directly plugging them in so that you can splice the wire casing open and cut the red wire. Then you need to build a simple "555 timer delay circuit," which costs about $2 for all parts and takes all of 3mins to assemble, and attach it between those cut red wires. without using the cable, there is no way to splice that voltage trace to delay the power getting to the capture card by 1-3 seconds, so the camera has tome to boot. i found this stuff has to happen in an order to work properly. adding a small delay to the capture card starting up prevents that.

anyway, to summarize:

1) v50 elite on updated firmware from emailing Akaso
-leave battery in because will not auto power on with DC power on, without battery. usb connected to switched power
-mirco hdmi to hdmi plugged into capture card
2) cam link 4k capture card
-off brand is 20 on amazon prime, brand name is 110. both are size of large jump drives
-(possibly, see below) needs usb cable for OTG connection with 555 timer delay powering capture card
3) android OTG adapter with USBA for data and USBC for charging. "Type C USB OTG Cable" will charge your phone and also run capture card, just may need timing delay.
4) "endoscope hd camera" app. name is OTG camera once installed. loads camera quickly, automatically loads to clean view and supports 4k 30fps, don't know if it goes higher but that's all I'm allowed, may be limited by phone. automatically zooms to fill the screen and can easily zoom out to full 4k view. i LOVE that its default is exactly what i need.
5) pre-hookup usb and HDMI to camera, HDMI to capture card, OTG into phone, power into OTG cable. turn on camera, give it 4 seconds, plug in capture card to OTG, open app. 4k60 displayed at 4k30 or you can use 4k30 with image stabilization but that's up to you, I like having the extra frames to prevent skipping when the 30hz source and 30hz monitors frames don't line up in time.
6) install screen rotation app that lets me flip the video to the correct orientation since I mounted the camera upside down.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great little camera. Great video with a couple things you should know!

Style: Without 64GB MicroSD CardVerified Purchase
I am giving this camera a solid 4 stars. There are somethings that are good and some that aren’t necessarily bad, but I wish were done differently. I own the Akaso V50 Pro and the V50 Elite so I have something to compare it against.
The Good: I like that this camera has so many different settings available to the user. The resolution options are huge. The V50 Pro is much more limited in what it allows even though the camera should be able to physical record the same as the Elite up to 4k 30 fps. The Elite allows you to zoom up to 8x from what I can see. It is just a digital zoom and only works with image stabilization off, but it is a great option to have. I think the menu setup is well done and intuitive. The only parts that aren’t the most intuitive to some people is the press and hold functions of the shutter button and the side up and down buttons. Those long presses control the WIFI, Bluetooth and allow you to get into the menu when only using buttons with the waterproof case on. The camera seems built well with a nonslip texture. It is lighter than the V50 Pro. The remote works well and pairs fine, although I could not get the voice control to work at all. I read the manual multiple times and I’m not sure what I’m missing but it doesn’t work. The video quality is great but depends on the mode. I personally like using 2.7k 30 fps on most things. It saves some space on the SD card and I can’t notice a difference on nearly all screens and the stabilization seems better than 4k. 4k 60 fps worked well but you really need a tripod or gimbal to use it because there really are no options to change hardly any settings when this mode is selected, and image stabilization doesn’t work in this mode either. It is very shaky without a gimbal in 4k 60 fps. The file sizes are huge in this mode and I’m not 100% sure if it is a true 60 fps or a upscaled 30 fps. It seems to be the latter. This camera also has better options than the V50 Pro for slow motion. It also seems to work just fine with a 128 GB card. I like that this model uses a more standard waterproof case that is used by most manufacture’s cameras of this type. The V50 pro has a unique case and if it breaks while on vacation you might be out of luck trying to find a case in a pinch, which happened to me with my V50 Pro on vacation in Mexico. The latch broke but I had bought an extra case for that very reason. The video color between the two cameras is nearly identical. Lastly, there is a YouTube video out there showing that the Elite video has greener hues to it, but I think they must have had the setting to vivid or something. That is not and issue at all if it is set correctly. The color is nearly identical to the V50 pro.
The Not as Good: My one biggest fault with this camera is the battery. I have the V50 pro and another branded action camera that is much cheaper, but not nearly as good, and they all use the same battery. I have many batteries to use between the two, but this camera has a different shaped battery. It is physically bigger, so I thought it might last longer but nope it is still 1050mAH and may actually not last as long as my V50 Pro. That is not scientific at this point so I’m going to say it is equal since I was playing around with it quite a bit. It is frustrating that they would even think to make it different from what seems to be standard on a lot of these action cameras. Another observation I have is the audio. It isn’t bad, just different. It has much louder audio recording than the V50 Pro which definitely helps inside the case, but it isn’t as clear as the V50 Pro. It almost sounds mono and not stereo. That probably isn’t true, but it is the best way I can describe it. The V50 Pro audio is much quieter but very clear. H.265 doesn’t seem to make much of a difference in file size like it should but I have this problem on every action camera like this. Next observation, just like my other models of action cameras, 1080p is not that good and it should be. I don’t get why manufactures can’t get this right. A cell phone in 1080p produces great, clear video and is all I use on my newer cell phone made by a certain fruit. It is very clear and saves on a lot of space. For many videos you don’t need much better than 1080p but many of these action cameras look like it is really 720p or lower. This is the reason I have to choose at least 2.7k for great video and sometimes I compress them on my computer with Handbrake software to save space if the video isn’t incredibly important. The other famous name brand action camera also produces great video in 1080p like my phone. Another thing worth noting is I think the V50 Pro may be ever so slightly better in low light. Lastly is the voice control like I mentioned earlier. I just could not get it to work. The remote worked great otherwise though.
Overall it is a great camera for the money, especially if you grab it on sale. I’m going to somehow need to buy more batteries to make it better since I can’t use my extra batteries. If you need all the extra control and 4k 60 fps, then buy this one. If you are fine with the most common resolutions the V50 Pro may be the better option because it is around $20 less. I like both for different reasons and will switch off between the two depending on what I am doing.
