Bird safe sandwhich maker / bread toaster!!

If you have birds you're aware that PTFEs and PFOAs are fatal to them through the fumes they release (those products are also dangerous to us of course!). As we got our bird we replaced the few pieces of cookware we had that were dangerous. I am SO happy to have found this sandwich maker! It's almost the same as the od one we had, but bird safe. It works very well, heats quickly, is easy to clean. Simple and efficient, perfect for what we wanted. We also use it to toast slices of French bread.

This is fine. It works, and it's non-stick. There are no on/off switches, so you just have to plug it up and unplug it manually. (I'll fix that with a smart plug, because it's really not a good idea to unplug devices that are turned on.) The plastic body is incredibly cheap looking and feeling: it feels like something from a child's play set. The latch doesn't catch quite right, either, and it doesn't seem very well constructed. Overall, I got what I paid for, so I'm not complaining, but it's not inexpensive because it's a deal. It's inexpensive because it isn't worth paying more to buy it. I won't recommend it for anyone who needs to use it often or for long, since it's very flimsy, but for heating an occasional sandwich, it will probably be fine.

I used to have. Ronco version of this from the 80’s lol. And my mom and I were reminiscing. We couldn’t find it anywhere. I’m sure my brother stole it! I decided to look for one for mother’s day. This hit the mark because I have a parrot and Teflon in toxic for birds. Most others are Teflon coated. Many others were much more expensive. There were fancier ones that had more bells and whistles, but the copper and the fact that the nostalgia was the true gift made this one the perfect purchase. She makes mini apple pies in it. Always has. But if you have tweens, it’s great!!! We always used it to make anything you can buy as a hot pocket now. Pizza was the obvious favorite. Fast, you can be creative and make all kinds of things. It’s a good transition into cooking. It’s harder to burn yourself than the stove, the over, or even the toaster oven. And it wipes out clean like a charm. Brings back great memories. It would be great for a dorm room. Those mini apple pies, let me just tell you!!! It’s easier now. They sell premade cinnamon apples because Boston market made that a popular side. All you need is a little butter or substitute and put in some of that, seal it - in a few minutes you can have 4 apple pies better for you than McDonalds!!! GREAT for eggs and little omelette too!! Like an omelette bar. No need to use bread. All these types of machines are modeled after the machine I grew up with. The draw with this one was the copper- safe for my bird, and the copper. But in general, these little guys are so much fun to cook with and to start your kids cooking in a much safer way than the alternatives.

I will be honest, I was really skeptical about this sandwich maker. We were going camping and I wanted something to add to our cooking line. We already had pie irons, which work great when properly used. I put this sandwich maker through a few non stick tests and I was in awe! First I tried different cheeses, even closing the unit. When the cheese was fully melted it wiped right off like water, leaving no residue on the copper. Next, I tried the super sticky grape jelly. Just like the cheese the jelly wiped off like water. Also, I tried peanut butter with the same impressive results. Additionally, with all three of these tests I used a dry paper towel. I've had other electric sandwich makers in the past that were useful, but a pain in the butt to clean. As odd as it is, I found it fun to use this sandwich maker and show others how easy it is to clean. I highly recommend.

My Favorite Way To Make Hot Sandwiches

I have been using these hot sandwich makers for 20 plus years. When mine dies, I just get a new one. I live the steaming hot centers with the completely closed triangle edges. So if I'm eating both halves, the second one is still hot when I'm done with the first. Quick way to get a hot meal. Some of my favorites are cheese, peanut butter, and pizza (sauce, cheese, and pepperoni)...not all mixed together. 🤣🤣🤣

Easy to operate. Red means not hot or ready. Green means hot and ready. Typically, most sandwiches only take a couple minutes, so it does cycle. If you are making something that would take longer, just let it cycle as many times as you need it too. Once cooked, I remove my sandwich and wipe it out immediately with wet rag or paper towel. When I do that, it takes seconds to clean. I hope they never stop making these.

My wife and I have been looking for a product like this for a while now. She had one when she was younger, and remembered how well it made grilled-cheese sandwiches.

When we started using it, it was great! It toasted the bread and melted the cheese very well, however, there was a bit of a problem. This model seems just a tad bit too small for even normal slices of bread. You can still manage to cram them in there, but if you are melting cheese with it, the cheese will ALWAYS drip out the sides, and even worse, sometimes it will drip out the back.

When that happens, it tends to get caught up in the hinges that let the device open and close, and cleaning cheese out of those tight, hard-to-reach spots is a massive pain.

Maybe it is user error, but for a product that is meant to make things like grilled-cheese sandwiches, I would have hoped it'd be easier to clean it all.

For what it's worth, the copper surfaces are all VERY easy to clean, it is only the plastic outside that can be a real challenge.

Just wish I could find bread that actually fits, or that they made one without the dividers, and better suited for the different sizes of bread.

This sandwich press has been very handy to have around the house, especially because my 4 year old loves hot sandwiches... this is much faster, simpler, and a lot less clean up than making it on the stovetop. Plus, I can just set it and forget it- I set a quick timer and come back to a nice hot sandwich. It’s made lunchtime so much less stressful for me. I love the nonstick surface because no oil or butter is needed and it gets a simple wipe-down after use.
(One little side note about the bread- the press works better with a square piece of bread, as opposed to an oversized piece of those special brands of seeded bread, or multigrain bread. We have both, and I prefer how the standard-sized square bread fits, especially when I’m making 2 sandwiches as the same time.)
It also has built-in edges that make the sandwiches easy to cut once I take them out. I really appreciate that I can just unplug, wipe down, and then put away. It’s very slim when it’s closed, so it’s easy to hide away in my bottom cupboard when I’m not using it.

What I love about this Gotham sandwich maker is how easy and delicious the sandwiches comes out, you need no butter or oil added so is healthier, however I like to put a little garlic olive oil and wow beautiful!!

I hesitated a little since the reviews were not good, but I went ahead and bought and I’m glad I did. This makes the perfect sandwich every time not burn bread or soft , just toasted to perfection.

Oh and the best has yet to come how easy to clean it is, I just use a wet paper towel and voila clean and shiny again.

Nothing sticks to it, durable and very well made of strong titanium fused with super slick ceramic you make two sandwiches, the lid locks and is very easy to use red means not ready and green means is ready to eat yummy. Recommended
