Iโm not a Kingdom Hearts fan, but I am a huge fan of Utada Hikaru and the work she has done for the video game series. Her music for Kingdom Hearts 3 is no exception. The Face My Fears Single contains four tracks: Face My Fears in both English and Japanese, as well as Chikai and Donโt Think Twice (the English version of Chikai).
Normally, I prefer one language version of Hikkiโs Kingdom Hearts tracks over another, but Face My Fears bucks that trends by delivering two suburb versions of the title track. A collaboration with the dubstep artist Skrillex, Face My Fears is an exciting and passionate electronic track. It manages to break new ground for Hikki creatively, while still sounding like an Utada Hikaru track out of her Ultra Blue era.
As far as Chikai/Donโt Think Twice goes, I must admit I prefer Chikai, as the English lyrics to Donโt Think Twice are a little strange, but it has grown on me over time. As a counterpoint to Face My Fears, Chikai/Donโt Think Twice is a soulful mid-tempo ballad. The more acoustic arrangement (which emphasizes piano and strings) is more in line with Hikkiโs last two albums, Fantome and Hatsukoi. Overall, itโs an incredibly lovely track that Iโve enjoyed since I first heard it months ago.
If youโre looking for some top-notch Utada Hikaru music, or youโre a fan of the Kingdom Hearts series, then I highly recommend checking out the Face My Fears single. All four tracks are more than worth your time and money.
