REVIEW: Aaooboai 28 bottle dual zone 15” wide wine cooler, about $600.

Once unpacked, it’s hard to maneuver around because there’s not much clearance from the bottom of the case to the floor. So your fingertips are in jeopardy, unless you drag it around the floor with some cheap potholders or something underneath. The instructions say if you move it full, you may destroy it.

Bordeaux versus typical North American size bottle: If you shop for a lot of California or Chilean wines, the bottles are much larger than Bordeaux (France) and you can fit maybe only 18 or 20 inside. I can’t emphasize that enough, even though other people have emphasized it enough. I thought that the bottles I normally buy from the shop are Bordeaux-size bottles, but they’re much larger.

The bottom shelf is shorter than the other shelves, as the compressor for the wine cooler sits behind it. You won’t get ANY long bottles in there at all.

The smaller upper zone is the cooler zone for whites.

The larger bottom zone is the warmer zone for reds.

Solidly made, I like the four fans, and the charcoal filter, which you should replace every 12 months. and with the blue LED light on: really sexy and atractive. The compressor versus thermal electric was critical for me as we don’t cool the downstairs, and the temperature can vary 20 degrees daily from the 60s to the 80s Fahrenheit. So I wanted to protect my wine with this cooler, and I don’t think the thermoelectrics would do as well in the heat.

One thing I didn’t like straight away: I stripped the screws that attach the door handle to the cooler. It’s an awkward geometry to put those in, including peeling back the silicon/rubber gasket that seals the front door. They should re-engineer that. The screws are cheap Chinese soft metal screws, so if you try to apply pressure you’ll just strip the heads. So, door “on,” and a bit “rattley,” but good enough.

If you’re thinking about getting a wine cooler, you probably have more wine than you think. So there are a couple of models in the market specifically tailored to what a North American might buy: the LARGER than Bordeaux bottles. And there are some models that are single zone and nicely fit 26 bottles for about $200. I might consider getting one for just whites and another one for just reds, for a total of about $400 To truly hold 52 bottles, versus $600 for truly only about 20 bottles. And there’s something wrong with the Feng Shui, about “stuffing” wine bottles in a smaller cooler. Not quite an elegant feeling: they should have some elbow room. Again if they’re all French Bordeaux size it would indeed be 28.

I think this is really designed as a pretty showcase cooler to hold, have handy, and show off a few of your favorite whites, and maybe three or four of your favorite reds, about two bottles each; to have a nicely presented and ready for a little company. Because it IS really pretty and the detail with the wood frontage on the shelves is nice. The drawer systems are very nice quality, mechanically. The overall interior design, and lighting is really sophiaticated and cool.

So in that role, it excels. For a strictly utilitarian use as a cooler, it’s overpriced, too small, and too fancy. Buy two single zone coolers, designed for larger bottles, with stainless steel racks, one for reds, one for whites, in that case.

Although I’m pissed off about the stripped screws in the door handle, as it’s elegant and beautiful and otherwise well-made; and the manufacturer emphasizes for Bordeaux size bottles (it being my fault I didn’t realize Bordeaux bottles were smallIer than what I typically buy). I will give it a five out of five stars for what I believe it’s intended purpose is: a beautiful, dual zone, well-displayed and well-made cooler to have a few of your favorites handy in an elegant presentation.

So far so good! Does it job quickly. Compressor turn on/off loud

Overall a solid wine fridge. Cools quickly, I loaded about 20 bottles, wine cooler reached desired temperature in about 2.5 hours, pretty impressive considering it’s sitting in the cabinet under counter with very little space. Looks good!

Noise: as the wine cooler sits right at kitchen entrance which is adjacent to living room, I wanted something quiet. My previous Danby wine cooler had a high pitch loud compressor, that was the reason I got rid of it cause I couldn’t stand the high pitch compressor noise. I would say the Aobosi has a high-ish pitch when the cooling cycle begins and the compressor start, but the high pitch noise gradually goes away in about 1-2 mins. Maybe it’s just because I haven’t had the cooler long enough to allow all the refrigerant and compressor fluid to properly cycle. After 1-2 mins, mostly it’s a low pitch humming fan which doesn’t bother me at all. I’d say the compressor noise is very low and overall noise quite tolerable once the compressor is “warmed up” and running for a bit. Also the cooling cycle time isn’t that long, seems about 4-5 mins or so, then it’s silent for 10–12 mins. I was going to get the smith and hank fridge at 39dB noise instead of this one at 42dB. But the Smith and Hank shipping was too slow and I’m impatient.

What I don’t like or could improve:
- no room to fit larger white wine/champagne bottles in the cold area. Wish the two cold white wine shelf had one larger one and one smaller one.
- LED light, no option to turn on when door is open then turn off after like few mins. Only on or off.
- fan noise is friendly low pitch hum, but I wish I could feel a bit more air coming out of the bottom fan grill. Doesn’t seem to have many CFMs going there. I’m all for better cooling.
- if you remove any wooden shelves, watch out for the rail grease!
- the fridge feat is hard plastic, wish it was could’ve got lowered a bit more - my floor wasn’t flat so half way into the cabinet, it was a tight tight fit even though this unit is only 0.04 inch taller than my old Danby. A slightly softer feet would’ve made things even quieter, especially during compressor turn on/off.
- I did have a loose screw on the compressor cover, I put it in myself.
- a day after I got my fridge, amazon dropped price to 509 (I paid 554 after coupon) but obviously no price match!! Bad amazon, nasty Jeff!

Searched high and low for a small dual zone wine fridge reading specs and reviews. Settled on this unit for a few reasons:
1. good reviews. I read everything.
2. quiet operation. I wanted an actual compressor fridge but wanted something quiet as we are not installing in a cabinet.
3. dual zone with good temperature ranges. Not all dual zone fridges get as low as this one for the whites.
4. space for larger bottles WITHOUT removing shelves. I like to keep some Pinot Noirs on hand and they are a fatter bottle. Most small dual zone fridges require you to remove a shelf to acclimate this size bottle. this on does not.
5. Attractive. To me anyway. I like the industrial, professional kitchen look. And the wooden shelves look better than wire.
Set up was easy and the fridge came to temps I set (41 for whites and 64 for reds) very quickly. There is a button on the control panel to adjust between C and F.

These are preliminary comments based on installation and set-up. I've only had it a couple of days.
1) The unit is heavily packed which is a good thing. The reviewers who said moving it took two people were somewhat correct. One person will have a hard time lifting it while its in the box. Once its out of the box its quite manageable. One 68 year old could lift it without strain.

2) I bought this because of reviewers who said they got it to replace a trash compactor. That was my goal and it fit perfectly into the slot formerly filled by that old antique. Yeah!

3) Read the manual before you plug it in. The manual will tell you to let it sit upright for 24 hours before you power up. Supposedly the coolant can get sloshed around during shipping. I don't know if that's a real risk but it didn't hurt to wait. The manual will also tell you things like how to switch from the default centigrade to Fahrenheit. Its easy but not intuitive. It also tells you that you have to pull back the gasket to screw in the handle. Without the manual telling me to, pulling the door gasket off a new unit was not my first thought. It did go back on easily enough.

4) My main complaint so far is with this gem from the manual. "The stated capacity is dependent on the size and shape of standard Bordeaux 750ml bottles with a diameter of 2.75 inches (and 11.8 inches in height). When accommodating larger bottles, you can remove shelves. This will reduce the stated bottle capacity."
No kidding.
It turned out the bottles of a number of our favorite wines are larger than this "standard". If the bottle is too tall, the door won't close; too wide and it won't pass the shelf on top. Perhaps I haven't yet optimally configured the loading but after working with it for an hour, I managed to fit 16 bottles - losing two shelves. Sixteen is better than nothing but its not 28.

5) So far pretty quiet. Fingers crossed.

Love this little Jewel! It has really exceeded my expectations. I just wish they made an 18 inch model because I had an appliance there that was 18 in. So I had to added a filler. I read several reviews saying theirs was noisy. Mine is extremely quiet. My question to those people is, did you follow the instructions and leave it sitting in an upright position for 24 hours? During shipping the unit could get laid on it's side and the oil could run out of the compressor into other parts of the system. Not setting it upright long enough for the oil to run back to the compressor could cause damage and possibly make it noisy. I love how accurate the temperature controls are. I have the top set at 41 deg (minimum for it) and bottom at 57 deg (maximum for it) and each time I walk past that's exactly what the temperature is. The packaging was excellent and I don't see how it could get damaged. Lots of people complain about the number of bottles it will hold. If you pay attention to the web page it shows a picture of a bottle with dimensions. That size is what they use when they say it holds 30 bottles. 750 ML standard size.
