5.0 out of 5 starsSmall, Very fast but runs hot

The ADATA SE800 is Small, Very Fast portable SSD. I would recommend it but you should know, it can get hot to the touch which might effect longevity. If you're planning on just keeping it plugged in all the time, it might be bad but if you're a traveling type and plugging it in as needed, I wouldn't worry about it.
I finally bit the bullet and decided to get an external SSD. My virtual machines were sitting on slow drive and I wasn't using them because of their performance. I was mainly looking at the Samsung T7/T5. T7 is still pretty expensive but equivalent to the SE800 and the T5 is slower and still more expensive than the ADATA. Decided to go with ADATA because of the price and value.
I'm using this on a 2017 Macbook Pro 15" which has USB-C 3.1 gen2. Using Blackmagicdesign Disk Speed Test, I'm averaging 870-890MB/s. For context, my DJI Fly Drive (5400rpm spinning external HD) which has a USB 3.1 gen1 interface, gets about 101MB/s. The SSD in my Macbook Pro gets about 1450MB/s. I'm impressed.
Also impressive are all the features. Aluminum casing, IP68 waterproof rating (with the USB-C cover closed). Honestly I didn't need all that but having it is a plus.
The only thing I can knock it for is the heat it produces. My temp gauge reads it at 110 F on the aluminum case but I don't know how accurate that is. It is hot to the touch and I am concerned about its usable life. ADATA provides a 3 year warranty based on their warranty checker. Might be a good idea to save your receipt.
